Item An Appraisal of Training and Development Constraints in Selected Nigerian Industries(International Journal of Administration and Development Studies, 2010) Isiaka, S. B.This study identified factors that interfere with training and management development using selected industries in Nigeria as a case study. Data was obtained from two major sources- primary data and secondary data. Respondents for this study were selected using simple random sampling technique. In the study a research instrument was developed, pretested and validated. It was used to identify the main problems of training and management developments in organizations. Four principal factors were identified and built into the questionnaire. A total of 190 copies of the questionnaire were administered on the employees of the selected industries, 162 copies of the questionnaire were however completed, returned, and found suitable for analysis. Data are presented in the form tables showing frequencies and percentages. Statistical technique used in analyzing the data is a strong and robust non-parametric statistic called G-Test. The study showed that there are factors that interfere with training and management development. Based on the findings it was recommended that adequate attention is paid to training and management in terms of the time it takes, its location, and work schedule; training should be carried out away from the working place of the trainees; training and management development must address the felt needs of the organization; training and management development should be seen as critical aspects of human resources management effectiveness; training should be seen as a vital issue to both employers and employees; and management development should be seen as a dynamic process.Item An Appraisal of Usefulness of Break-even Analysis to Business Managers in Decision Making(ADSU Journal of Social and Development Studies, An Interdisciplinary Journal of Research, Policy and Development Studies, 2009) Isiaka, S. B.; Abdulraheem, A.The focus of study is an appraisal of usefulness of break-even analysis to business managers in decision making. The study relied on both qualitative and quantitative analysis of data. A total of 120 copies of the questionnaire were administered out of which 85 copies were however returned and fond suitable for analysis. The data obtained through questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics such as frequency distribution and a strong and robust non-paramentric statistics called G-Test, respectively. The results of the analysis showed that Break-Even Analysis is useful to Business Managers in Decision Making. The recommendations based on the findings are breakeven analysis can be used not only for manufacturing companies, but also for companies that provide services; in using breakeven analysis in decision making all the information which is relevant must be available; and to effectively use break-even analysis in decision making all the data must be expressed in monetary value and relating to costs and revenues as measured by the management accountant.Item Assessment of E-recruitment in Kwara State Bridge Empowerment Scheme Ilorin, Nigeria(LASU Journal of Management Sciences, 2016) Saliman, A.; Isiaka, S. B.Decades ago, Nigeria was known to be one of the richest countries in Africa because of her great petroleum reserves and large population. Ironically, Nigerian economy is now characterized by unemployment and poverty which more often result in social vices, such as community crisis/clashes, societal conflicts, and kidnapping. This called for action plans to combat these vices. Such action plans adopted in Kwara State Nigeria, is Kwara State Bridge Empowerment Scheme (KWABES). This study therefore assesses e- recruitment in KWABES. The study population includes selected beneficiaries of the scheme. Both primary and secondary data were used to achieve the study objectives. The primary data were generated through administration of structured questionnaire and secondary data were sourced from KWABES records, electronic source and, media. Histogram and Z-test statistical technique at +1.960 and -1.960 for acceptance or rejection of the study hypotheses were used to achieve the objectives of the study. Research findings show that there is positive effect of e-recruitment in KWABES on employment generation for the youth in the state. Also, the use of e-recruitment in KWABES has contributed significantly to the reduction of poverty in the state as a result of employment opportunities for the youth in the state. The study concluded based on findings that progress was made in terms of youth employment generation within the periods under study. The study therefore recommended that; KWABES should expand the scope of vacancies through e-recruitment by creating more jobs for youths in the state and to adequately specify the manpower requirements on the job advert portal.Item An Assessment of the Role of Microfinance Banks in Entrepreneurial Development in Selected Rural Areas in Kwara State(Akungba Journal of Management, 2012) Isiaka, S. The objective of this is to assess the role of Microfinance banks in relation to entrepreneurship development in rural areas of Kwara State. 300 copies of structured questionnaire were randomly distributed to selected respondents in rural areas of Kwara state: this was analysis with the use of Regression technique. The findings indicate that there is an impact of microfinance on the development of entrepreneurship in selected rural areas of Kwara state. A.This study seeks to examine Search, Experience and Credence (SEC) factors as determinants of banks’ patronage and its implication on fund mobilization and fund applications for sustainable development in Nigeria. Purposive and convenience sampling techniques were employed to select the sample size of the account holders in the selected banks. Data were collected by use of self-administered questionnaire on a 7-point Likert scale. Findings revealed that Search attributes ranked higher followed by Experience attributes and the Credence attributes in that order. The study concluded that bank customers are highly sensitive to the SEC before making decision about patronage. Therefore, Service Organizations like banks should consider these when developing strategy for customers’ patronage. The paper recommends that banks’ marketers and customer relationship officers should be properly trained on the importance of SEC attributes in order to attract customers for patronage.Item The Effect and Measurement of Workplace Absenteeism in the Banking Industry in Nigeria(Lapai International Journal of Management and Social Sciences, 2008) Isiaka, S. B.The cost of absenteeism to business usually expressed in terms of lost productivity is difficult to determine. While the organisations are aware of the negative consequences of absenteeism, no attempt is often made to calculate-the impact. The Study is therefore, designed to examine different forms j of absenteeism and the likely causes. The likely implication/effect./cost are also discussed. Both primary and secondary data are used. These are questionnaire, personal interaction and a review of related literature. Banking industry in Nigeria is used as a case Study. The findings are that absenteeism affect business operation and that banks do not often bother to calculate the effect of absenteeism on the job. Further probing shows that even if they want to do so, they seem to have no idea on which formula to use. Ways of measuring the cost of absenteeism are suggested. The paper recommends ways to reduce absenteeism in the work place some which are, promotion of a high performance work culture and emphasizing the importance of the employee fitting into this culture, provision of flexible work practices that meet the needs of a business and employees, introduction of a reward system for any improvement to sick leave rates, and working with employees to develop strategies to reduce absenteeism.Item Effect of Entrepreneurial Practices in Managing Small Scale Business for Sustainable Development in Nigeria: An Empirical Evidence(Journal of Sustainable Development in Africa, 2017) Isiaka, S. Managing small business through Entrepreneurial practices as well as the reasons for Business failure in business environment has become issues in Nigeria context. Problems, prospects, and significance of entrepreneurship business in Nigeria were analyzed. The study used secondary data, some which are previous researches and analyses of scholars; and related journal articles. Findings shown that most SMEs particularly in Nigeria liquidated within their first five years of their operations due to contributing factors such as insufficient capital, lack of focus, inadequate market research, over-concentration on one or two markets for finished products, and lack of succession plan. This has negative effect on sustainable development of the country. It is concluded that, the secret behind the success of self-reliant strategy is mainly in peoples’ positive attitudes to enterprise, and in the extent to which the right incentive, adequate enough to make risk worth taking rather than in any particular political philosophy. A.High staff turnover in Flour Mills of Nigeria is a concern as the issue of employee satisfaction or lack of it hinges on productivity, accomplishment and development of organization’s goals. Indeed, the success of any organization depends on staff members who enjoy their jobs and feel rewarded by their effort. Therefore, the study examines the impact of career advancement opportunities on employee turnover intention and determines the effect of promotion opportunities on employee turnover intention. The research design employed for this study is survey method and the population comprises both skilled and unskilled workers of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, Lagos. Data were collected from three hundred and thirty-seven (337) employees of the company using structured questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression technique. The findings of the study revealed that satisfaction from the career advancement opportunities is inversely related to the employee turnover intention at (0.865) and promotion opportunities have a positive significant effect on employee turnover intention at 0.917. the study concluded that improving career advancement and promotion opportunities as company retention strategy has a significant relationship with employee turnover.Item Effect of Performance Management System on Employees’ Attitude in the Nigerian Banking Sector(Fountain University Journal of Management and Social Sciences (FUJMAS), 2016) Isiaka, S. B.; Kadiri, I. B.; Aliyu, M. O.Performance Management focuses on the organizational and employees’ performances and the system that are usually employed for carrying out the process of evaluation. Performance Management System (PMS) is said to have been developed and implemented resulting in the failure to deliver the results people expect from it. This is one of the biggest challenges facing line managers and human resource unit of most establishments and it usually escalates to different approaches from employee’s perspectives. The main objective of the paper is to examine the effect of Performance Management System (PMS) on Employees’ Attitude in the Nigerian Banking Sector. The study used Stratified Sampling Technique to select a total number of one hundred and eighty (180) staff from Head Offices of the fifteen (15) listed Banks in Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data obtained were analyzed and presented using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Correlation and regression analysis were used to test the hypotheses formulated for the study. The findings revealed that R2 of 0.2177, 0.4066 and 0.6687 values suggested that variables in the model are all jointly significantly influence the probability of the Nigerian banking sector performing better. The study concluded that the implementation of PMS is said to be the commencement of changed attitude to work due to continuous and systematic assessment of employees’ performance on a regular basis. Noting that PMS in the Nigerian Banking Sector would obtain better results if they can further improve some segments of PMS such as objective performance, monitoring and evaluation. The study recommended that; management should continue to communicate the importance of Performance Management System (PMS) to employees until the process is entrenched and also the outcomes should be channeled to employee developmental and promotional purposes.Item Effect of Reward on Organizational Commitment: A Case Study of Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Nigeria(Journal of Sustainable Development in Africa., 2017) Isiaka, S. B.; Kadiri, I. B.; Jimoh, A. L.This study examined the effect of reward on organizational commitment with reference to Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Nigeria. The case study is chosen because tax revenue is an instrument of economic development of most countries including Nigeria, that can put them on the road to sustainable development. The population of the study is 135 purposively selected staff of the organization and the sample size of 100 was determined through the Guilford and Flruchter formula. Regression was used in analyzing the data obtained through questionnaire. The results showed that reward had a positive and significant effect on the commitment of the organization (R= .567, R2=.321, P<0.5). Until quite recently, the Nigerian capital market was the toast of many enlightened Nigerians both home and abroad. This research study investigated the impact of financial meltdown on the capital market with particular reference to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). In carrying out the study, survey research design was adopted and thirty (30) observations were drawn each from the periods before the crash and after the menace. Using Z test statistical analysis, two hypotheses tested with respect to NSE All Share Index (ASI) and market capitalisation were rejected implying that the tests were statistically significant. On the contrary, the hypothesis tested on NSE market turnover was accepted meaning that the observed difference in the values was statistically insignificant. Similarly, using market model, it was discovered that there were significant changes in individual quoted securities and expected returns in the period under consideration. Above all, the findings of the study revealed that the financial meltdown impacted negatively on the operational performance and efficiency of the Nigerian stock market. O.PUPROSE – This article discussed the nature and benefits of flexible working as a precursor for creating employee engagement which could encourage employee’s effectiveness within the small and medium enterprises. Due to the current awareness and focus given to SMEs in developing countries, particularly Nigeria, the paper strived to bring forth the importance and contribution of flexible towards the growth of SMEs and the resulting effects on the nation’s economy. DESIGN /METHODOLOGY /APPROACH – The paper presented a conceptual discussion of the interrelated ideas evident within the concept of flexible working and employee engagement. Research examples from the UK are used to underscore the article’s arguments. FINDINGS - This paper crystallized how, within this conception, flexible working could be utilized to increase SMEs productivity and encourage their longevity within the dynamic context they operate. ORIGINALITY/VALUE – This article brings forth useful information on developments in flexible working, and the advantages it proffered to SMEs where it has been adopted.Item Health Consumer Expectations and Perception of Quality Care Services at Primary Health Care Level in Nigeria(Journal of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences., 2019) Saka, M. B.OBJECTIVE: The study examined the expectations of health consumers and perception used in judging the Quality of health care services at the primary health care level. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional study was carried out among randomly selected health consumers that had received health care services in the hospitals designated as primary health care facilities in Kwara State Nigeria. RESULTS: Overall health consumers’ means score expectations was 6.57 while perception was 5.80. Though was high in favour of females with no statistics significant difference. However, correlation test revealed significant association in socio-demographic variables such as age, occupation and educational status. Conversely, relationship was inverse in term of increase in education attainment with lower perception value (pv = <0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Expectation- perception gap was a major determinant of quality of health care services at primary health care levels. Significant relationship occurred between heath consumer’s age, occupation, educational status and overall expectation -perception of quality health care received. It is recommended that hospital management need to monitor the link between the expectations including perception of services received by patients for quality improvement at primary health care level.Item Impact of Organisational Culture on Employees’ Performance in Selected Pharmaceutical Companies in Nigeria(Academy of Taiwan Business Management Review, 2019) Isiaka, S. L.The various studies on organisational culture have shown that employees in most of the business organisations in Nigeria today are operating under the whims and caprices of the owners established beliefs, values and norms which are usually difficult to change as environment changes. Failure in the attempt to properly capture the interest of the employees when addressing this, usually generate the exhibition of some attitudes and behaviours that are inconsistent with the company’s best interests. Therefore, this study examines the impact of organizational culture on employees’ performance with reference to selected Pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design. Primary data was used to obtain the needed information through structured questionnaire. Out of 634 permanent staff of the selected pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria, simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 239 respondents. Multiple regression used to test the formulated hypothesis. The result of the regression showed that organizational culture has significant impact on employees performance (R Square of 0.684, p-value=0.0001). The study concludes that organization culture has a significant relationship as well as a good influence on employees performance. Also, significant differences exist in the level of adherence to the identified cultural dimensions. The study therefore recommended that the Pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria should promote organisational culture, especially by paying more attention to detail so as to yield positive and significant contribution to employees performance.
