    Assessment of the Utilization of Information and Communication Technology in Literacy Centres in Ibadan North, Oyo State

    The purpose of this study was to assess the utilization of information and communication technology in literacy centres in Ibadan North L.G.A .The population of the study comprises of adult learners in all mass literacy centres and advance learning centres in Ibadan North. The correspondents were randomly selected in selected centres within the study area. And the total number of eighty-five adult learners were used for the study. The data gathering instrument was by questionnaire administered on a randomly sample of Ten Adult centres in Ibadan North.Data collected were analyzed using frequencies and percentages for research question one and mean rating statistics for research question two. The study showed that the use of ICT facilities improved the teaching and learning in adult centers, helps adults to learn at their own pace, extends a wide range of experiences to the pupils and helps to improve adultperformances. The researcher proffers this as recommendation, adequate provision of ICT facilities, employment of efficient ICT personnel and periodical personnel training should be a top priority.

    Capacity Building and Skill Acquisition Programmes for Sustainable Community Development among the Coprs Members in Ogun State

    Due to rapid turn-out of graduates from Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics yearly and the present situation of unemployment rates in Nigeria, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) headquarters in Abuja sees the needs to intensify skills acquisition programme on the scheme. The Department of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) was a newly created department to formulate and implement policies on Corps Entrepreneurship development programmes and to develop and build partnerships with stakeholders on entrepreneurship issues. The NYSC SAED project seeks to contribute meaningfully to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goal. The project is a nationwide initiative targeted at young Nigeria graduates mobilized and deployed in a one year mandatory service. The key activities of SAED are to sensitize and mobilized the corps members to enroll into the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme. The corps members are to organize entrepreneurship and hands-on training inside and outside the orientation camp. Corps members are then attached to the various organizations for skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development. Capacity building as a strategy is basically about actions of improving organizational and project effectiveness and efficiency. In NYSC, capacity building prong will focus on the organizational capacity of NYSC SAED to fulfill her role as the coordinators and drivers of the project and prong the capacity of corps members to transit from employment seekers to employers of labour.     Change-Agents as catalyst in Achieving sustainable Community Development Projects in Nigeria

    Community development projects in Nigeria are always carried out using the top-down approach where most of the projects were carried out without carrying out a need assessment of such communities. The community people were not involved form the project initiation to the last stage of project evaluation. No wonder, therefore such projects are either abandoned or die prematurely at conception. Also, community people perceive that it is the government responsibility to provide those infrastructure and develop their communities for them and the problem of funding those projects still poses a great challenge. The mobilization drive is very low and this has been hindering the effective mobilization of community people to partner with the government and other community development partners in order to have sustainable self-help projects in their communities. This paper examines the concept of sustainable community development, mobilization and citizen participation from sustainable community development and the roles of change-agents that can enhance sustainable community development. It was recommended that change-agents should be involved in community development processes, starting from the initiation of the project to the final stage of monitoring and evaluation of such project in order to have sustainable community development.

    Guidnace and Counselling of Adult Learners as a Catalyst for Sustainable Community development in Kwara State

    This paper examined the concept of Guidance and counselling of Adult learners as a catalyst for sustainable community development in Kwara State, Nigeria. The paper established that guidance and counselling influence adult learners on personal development and attitude formation in llorin metropolis. Four research hypotheses were generated to guide the study. The objectives were to establish the influence of adult learners' on personal development, attitude formation, career he exploration and entrepreneurship development for sustainable community development in Kwara Stake. The study used the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised all adult learners in Kwara State while a sample of One hundred and eighty (180) was purposively selected for the study. Data were collected with the use of validated instrument tagged Guidance and Counselling of Adult Learners for sustainable community development (GCALSCD). Data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation analyses to test the four research questions. Results of the anałysis indicated that guidance and counselling influence adult learners on personal development, attitude formation, career exploration and entrepreneurship development for sustainable community development in Kwara State. The study showed the importance of guidance and counselling of adult learners for sustainable community development in Kwara State.

    Human Activities and challemges of Sustainable Community Development in Nigeria

    In the process of community development, different activities of man have effects on the community. The activities include: bush burning, deforestation, destroying of young plants and animals and many more. Some of the strategies to ameliorate human’s activities negative effect on community development include community education and change-agent approaches to improve human’s activities on community development. It is therefore, recommended that community education should be used to ensure increased environmental awareness, nature conservation and also, efforts should be made to create awareness and sensitize community members about community development programmes through the use of adult education tools such as community mobilization and the mass media. Finally, there is need for joint efforts by all stakeholders to preserve the national resources and protect the environment better for both now and future for sustainable community development in Nigeria.

    Intervention of NGOs for Sustainable Community Development in Ilorin-South Local Government Area of Kwara State

    Sustainable community development of not new and it enhances the idea of serving the present need of community people and meeting the need of generation unborn in that same communities. The intervention of Non-governmental Organizations and their contributions cannot be over emphasised. That is why this paper is trying to examine the intervention of Non-governmental organizations for sustainable community development in llorin-South. The data collected from this study were quantified using descriptive statistic, mean and standard deviation for the research questions. The findings show that there are many private, social and religious owned NGOs in the local government area of study. The findings also revealed that the role of NGOs improves the sustainable community development projects in the area of study as well. The result also revealed that NGOs fund the sustainable community development projects and that there are many NGOs in llorin-South Local Government Area. It was also established that NGOs play an important roles in improving sustainable community development projects that available in their communities for the betterment of their living. The paper recommended that NGOs should continue to intervene in community development services for the social, economic, welfare and development of peoples' communities. Also, NGOs should focus their interventions on activities that would enable them to reduce the marginalised and disadvantaged sectors of the communities to improve the circumstances of the communities' livelihood for sustainable community development in their communities.

    Level of Involvement of Adult Learners in Lifelong education as a Catalyst for Sustainable Community Development in Kwara State Nigeria

    This paper examined the level of involvement of adult learners as a catalyst for sustainable community development. The objectives were to establish the relationship of adult learners' gender, distance, level of income and qualifications to their level of involvement in lifelong education for sustainable community development in Kwara State. The study used the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised all adult learners in Kwara State while a sample of two hundred and forty (240) was purposively selected for the study. Data were collected with the use of validated instrument tagged Adult Learners' involvement in lifelong education (ALILE). The content validity of the instrument was established using expert judgment and the test re-test reliability index of the instrument was 0.68. Data obtained were analyzed using t- test and ANOVA statistical analyses to test the four research hypotheses raised. Results of the analysis indicated that there was no significant relationship between adult learner significant relationship was found between adult learners' qualification and their level of involvement in gender distance, level of income and their level of involvement in lifelong education. However, a lifelong education. The study underscored the import century for the strengthening of open distance education programmes in the area of pre-retirement retrenchment and retirement education programmes among others.

    Opinions of Management Staff of Corporate Organizations in Lagos Metropolis on Outsourcing Strategy and Its Implications on Workers' Education

    This study examined the phenomenon of outsourcing as a global management strategy in achieving and improving efficiency in three selected service industries. The study identified why organizations opts for outsourcing as a management preference. However, despite the beauty of outsourcing the research observes that outsourcing in Lagos metropolis has mainly been service oriented among industries with little technological skill requirement. The implications of outsourcing were highlighted on labour from the global scale to the industrial hub of economic activities in Nigeria. Descriptive survey technique was used on three organizations rendering services within Lagos metropolis. The sample size technique used was random sampling technique. Findings indicated that outsourcing as a modern phenomenon has improved the achievement, of organizational objectives and recommends that due to" lop sidedness" in labour vis-à-vis available vacancies, it is therefore imperative for the Government of Nigeria to regulate outsourcing.

    Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Community Development in Southwestern Nigeria

    This paper examined the influences of public-private partnership (PPP for sustainable community development. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The target population consist of both public and private organizations, government officials, change-agent officers, community development officials, NGOs, and other development stakeholders in six purposively selected local government areas in Oyo and Ogun states. The stratified random sampling technique was used to select 240 public and private community development partners in the selected local governments. Key Informant Interview (KII) and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for government officers, NGOs, community development agents, and other stakeholders in community development were used to obtain data. Findings showed that there were influence of partnership on project initiation, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and funding of PPP for sustainable community development. There are joint project initiation, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and funding with the knowledge of both public and private organisations who were the direct beneficiaries of the projects. The spirits of team work, social networking and adequate enlightening programme for public and private organizations to partner and develop their community were endowed on the community partners.
