E-LEARNING FACILITIES AVAILABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN UNIVERSITIES IN KWARA STATE

Abstract

This study focused on e-learning facilities availability and business education students’ academic performance in universities in Kwara state. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship that exist between e-learning facilities availability and business education students’ academic performance in selected universities in Kwara state. The population for this work consists of all universities in Kwara state. Three universities (University of Ilorin, Kwara State University and Al-Hikmah University Ilorin) were selected purposively. The target population for this study consists of all business education students in University of Ilorin (398 students), Ilorin, Kwara State University, Malete (155 students) and Al-Hikmah University Ilorin Kwara state (16 students). Proportional sampling techniques was used to select 35% of the target population. 140 of 398 students were selected from university of Ilorin, 54 of 155 students were selected from Kwara state University Malete and 6 out of 16 students were selected from Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, which amounted to 200 business education students from the three selected universities. Two researcher designed instruments titled Availability and Accessibility questionnaire (AAQ) and Students’ Academic Performance Pro-forma (SAPP) were used to gather data used for the study. The academic performances were gathered using the business education final year students’ results. The findings of this study revealed that there was relationship between e-learning facilities and students’ academic performance with P-value of 0.000 at (0.05) level of significance. There was significant relationship between availability of e-learning facilities and students’ academic performance with P-value of 0.000 at (0.05) level of significance. Furthermore, the result of the findings shows that there was significant relationship between accessibility of e-learning facilities and students’ academic performance with P-value of 0.000 at (0.05) level of significance. Based on the findings, the study therefore recommends among others that; the e-learning facilities such as personal computers should be made available and cheaper than they are in order to enable most if not all of the students be able to be in possession of it. Therefore, it was concluded that e-learning facilities such as phone, PC tablet, e-mail and internet facilities had significant relationship with students’ academic performance in universities in Kwara state.
