Abstract

Abstract Infrastructural provision has been a major problem of most public secondary schools in Kwara State. However, government in recent years has made noticeable effort at proving for school facility needs. These efforts are expected to change the trend of poor school outputs experienced over the years. Studies have shown that the expectations of good school outputs have not been met. This study therefore sought to find the relationship between school facilities provision and maintenance and teachers productivity in large public secondary schools. It is expected that if teachers are productive, school outputs will be large enough to justify parents and government investment in education. Researcher-designed questionnaire titled “School Facilities Management and Teacher Productivity Questionnaire” was used to gather information on provision and maintenance of school infrastructures as well as their effects on teacher productivity. Three research questions and two hypotheses were raised for the study. Pearson product moment correlation statistics was used to analyse the data to effectively determine the relationships between the variables. The study found out that routine and preventive maintenance of school facilities were usually done. Inadequate budget provision and implementation for school facilities maintenance was observed and the level of teacher productivity in large schools was found to be just above the average. The study established a significant relationship between school facilities provision and teacher productivity. The study recommended the setting up of facilities management units in all large public secondary schools in the state.
