Item ATITUDE OF TEACHERS TOWARDS THE INTRODUCTION OF CIVC EDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOLS IN ILORIN METROPOLISA(Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Journal of Science, Technology & Education (JOSTE), 2015) Bolu-Steve, F.N; Saidu, A; Bello, D.BThis study aimed at surveying the attitude of teachers towards the introduction of civic education in secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis. The target population for the study comprised all teachers in Upper Basic Schools in Ilorin, Kwara State. At stage one, simple random sampling technique was used in selecting two Local Governments out of the three Local Government Areas in Ilorin Metropolis. At second stage, Stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting five schools on the basis of school ownership in Ilorin, while twenty teachers were purposively selected from each of these schools. Thus, a total of two hundred respondents participated in the study. Data were collected using a researcher designed instrument tagged “Attitude of Teachers towards the Introduction of Civic Education Questionnaire ” (ATTICEQ). The data were analyzed using percentages, mean, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The findings of this study showed that there was no significant difference in the attitude teachers of teachers towards the introduction of civic education in secondary school on the basis gender and school type. However a significant difference was found in the attitude of the respondents based on their teaching experience and educational qualification. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that the government should endeavor to train more teachers; this can be done by providing incentives such as reduction in school fees for teachers who wants to be trained along this line.Item Attitude of University of Ilorin Undergraduates Towards the Teaching and Learning of History(Department of Educational Foundation and Development, 2017-01-02) Saidu, A; Badru, S. The study adopt descriptive method of research. Purposive sampling technique was used to select all the History teachers in Ilorin metropolis secondary schools. Four research questions and one hypothesis were generated. The research questions one and four were answered with the mean rating, while research question two which has corresponding hypothesis was tested with the t-test and the research question three was answered with the percentage. Majority of the History teachers had positive attitude towards the use of excursion method because the weighted mean score obtained was 47.16 which is above the benchmark weighted mean score of 42.5. However, they are of the opinion that the greatest constraint to the use of excursion method is that there is no maximum support from the school management. The research work recommended that the History teachers should not shy away from the student-centreapproaching teaching which focuses on the students so as to further increase critical thinking in the students. Also there should be training workshops to orientate History teachers on the proper use of the excursion method. It also recommended that the school management should give support to the History teachers for the effective use of excursion methodItem Implications of radio listening habits of nomads in Kwara State on adult education component of Normadic education programme.(The Department of Education, University of Maiduguri Nigeria, 2015) Saidu, A; Arikewuyo, A.O; Bolu-Steve, F.NThe cardinal objective of this study was the investigation of radio listening habits of pastoral Nomads in Kwara State and its implications on Adult Education component of Nomadic Education Programme. A total of 560 respondents were engaged in the study using cluster sampling technique. Also, a researcher designed questionnaire was used for data collection. The data collected for the study was analysed using charts, frequency counts and percentages. The reliability co-efficient was calculated to be 0.76. The finding of the study showed that majority of the respondents own radio sets and listen to it frequently. It was also revealed that various radio programmes that pastoral Nomads listen to have made them to enroll their children in school. It was recommended that Information Communication Technology can also be used to reach the Nomads as it is capable of providing learning opportunities for informal and non-formal continuing literacy in adult and basic youth education programme.Item Teachers’ Effectiveness in Maintaining Standards in Basic Education in Kwara State Central District(Department of Teacher Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, 2014-05) Olatunji, D. S.; Jimoh, M. I.; Balogun, A. O.; Saidu, A; Alhassan, Y. S.This study investigated teachers' effectiveness in maintaining standards in basic education in Kwara Central Senatorial District. Specifically, the study determined the influence of teaching qualification, years of teaching experience, areas of specialization and gender on teachers' effectiveness. The population of the study was 3,410 Upper basic teachers in the 84 schools in the district out of which 300 teachers were randomly drawn from 30 schools as a sample for the study. A questionnaire titled My Teacher Effectiveness Inventory (MTEI) was used to collect data about the teachers' effectiveness from their students. The collected data were analyzed with percentages and chi-squares. The findings showed that teachers in Basic Schools possess a minimum teaching qualification. Teachers' gender, teaching qualifications, years of teaching experience and area of specialization significantly influenced their effectiveness. Based on these findings, it was recommended that B.Ed/B.Sc (Ed)/ B.A (Ed) should be the least qualification for teaching in Upper Basic schools in Kwara Central Senatorial District. The experienced teachers should mentor the less experienced and newly recruited teachers; teachers' areas of specialization or discipline should be adhered to in the recruitment and placement of teachers. Also, male teachers should update their knowledge through a series of in-service training and refresher courses. These would improve teachers' effectiveness and standard in Basic Education would be assured.
