Item Arabic and Islamic Studies Teachers’ Perceived Problems Associated with the Attainment of the Universal Basic Education Goals in North-central, Nigeria(Published by the Department of Adult and Primary Education, University of Ilorin, 2020-08-15) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHI; Abdulhameed Ishola, Jimba; Musa, SALISUThis paper examined the Arabic and Islamic Studies Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers’ perceived factors militating against the attainment of the UBE goals in North central, Nigeria. The population for the study was all the UBE teachers in North-central, Nigeria. Simple random sampling technique was used to select nine hundred and twenty-four teachers teaching Arabic and Islamic Studies in the central. The researchers adopted descriptive survey research type while structure questionnaire with 18 question items was used to collect data from the respondents. The instrument was validated by three experts and yielded a coefficient of 0.75 when subjected to a test-retest reliability procedure. The percentage was used to answer research question one, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to tested hypotheses postulated at 0.05 alpha level. The study revealed that poor condition of service of the UBE teachers, poor and unconducive teaching-learning environment for the implementation of the UBE curriculum, inadequacy of educational facilities, inadequate funding and mismanagement of the little fund available were among the factors militating against the attainment of the UBE goals. Also, the respondents’ gender, qualifications and teaching experience did not influence their perceptions significantly. Therefore, it was concluded that the UBE curriculum implementation process requires urgent attention to redress the problems so as to achieve the set UBE goals.Item Arabic Language Phoneme Pronunciation Difficulties among Upper Basic Hausa-speaking Students in Kano State, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Malaysia, 2021-09-09) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHIIn the process of learning foreign language, there are always some indispensable learning problems, especially in the pronunciation aspect. Therefore, this study investigated Arabic Language phoneme pronunciation difficulties among upper-basic Hausa-speaking students of Arabic in Kano State, Nigeria. The total population for the study was the all Upper Basic Hausa-speaking students of Arabic in Kano State, Nigeria. While the target population as all Upper Basic III Arabic students. The 200 Upper Basic Hausa-speaking students of Arabic were sampled from the 3 senatorial districts of the state involving 9 Local Government Areas using multistage sampling techniques. A Pronunciation Test adapted from Adebayo (2010) with a reliability coefficient of 0.75 was used for data collection. Only 180 Pronunciation test that were properly filled and returned were subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The percentage was used to answers research questions while Chi-square was employed to test the hypotheses postulated at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that a number of Arabic consonants constitute pronunciation difficulty for the students due to the presence of their corresponding consonant sounds in Hausa language while all Arabic vowels did not constitute much pronunciation difficulty for the students. The findings also revealed that there was no significant difference in the Arabic consonant and vowel sounds that constitute pronunciation difficulties for male and female Upper Basic Hausa-speaking students of Arabic from both public and private schools in Kano State. The study recommended that teachers of Arabic Language should pay more attention to the various Arabic consonant and vowel phonemes as well as the Arabic syllable patterns that constitute pronunciation difficulties for the Hausa-speaking students of Arabic. The attention of Hausa-peaking students of Arabic should be drawn to the semantic implications of phonemic replacement, reduction or prolongation.Item Arabic Students' Perception of the Roles of Arabic Education in Sustainable Development in Kwara State, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, Nigeria, 2021-06-20) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHILanguage is the parameter for effective communication in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual society. Language has contributed massively in turning the world into a global village and as well plays a significant role in the formation and upholding national and international values. Arabic as a language plays a prominent role in the facilitation and promotion of inter-cultural communication and sustainable development. This study investigated the perception of Arabic students on the roles of Arabic education in sustainable development in Kwara State, Nigeria. Arabic students in the study consisted of all undergraduates and postgraduates in the state. These groups of students constituted the population for the study. 270students were sampled using a purposive sampling technique. Researcher’s designed questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents. The instrument was validated by three experts in Arabic Education, Measurement and Evaluation and yielded a co-efficient of 0.72 when subjected to a test-retest reliability procedure through the Pearson Product Moment Coefficient. The data collected was analysed with the percentage, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 alpha level. Findings from the study revealed that Arabic students held positive perception on the role of Arabic education in sustainable development. The study recommended that multilingual education (which embeds Arabic Education) should be encouraged and promoted across the nation via the re-branding of language education policy. This could help to promote the role of Arabic education in the national sustainable development.Item A Comparative Analysis of Arabic Students Performance in Mock and Basic Education Certificate Examination in Ilorin-Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria(Published by the Department of Arts Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin,Nigeria, 2020-07-22) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHI; Musa, SALISUThe performance of students in a particular examination must have the ability to predict or be used as a yardstick for measuring their performance in another examination. This study focuses on a comparative analysis of Arabic students’ performance in Mock and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Ilorin-metropolis, Kwara State. All the Junior Secondary School III students in the metropolis constituted the study population, while all Arabic students that sat for both mock and BECE constituted the target population. Purposive and stratified sampling techniques were used to select the results of candidates that sat for Arabic in both the Mock and Basic Education Certificate Examination. Proforma was used to collect 1,286 candidates’ results in the Mock and the BECE. The percentage was used to describe the demographic data of the respondents. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the null hypotheses were tested with the t-test statistics. The findings revealed that the students’ general performance in both the MOCK and BECE Arabic is at credit level, and that significant difference exists between the performance of Arabic students’ in the Mock and BECE. Generally, students’ performance in both the MOCK and BECE was relatively high. The study recommended that Teachers of Arabic should put more efforts to sustain their students’ performance in the subject. The students are encouraged not to take both the Mock and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with levity. They should complement the efforts of their parents, teachers, school administration and government by studying voraciously in order to sustain their performance so that they can come out with flying colours.Item Effect of Stylistics Approach on Approach on Secondary School Students' Performance in Arabic Poetry in Kwara State , Nigeria(Published by the Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, 2023-08-05) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHIThe teaching of poetry should have essential aspects to be observed, that is, the techniques used in the classroom should help the students to increase their power of appreciation of beauty and add to their joy when reading that piece of literature. This study investigated the effect of stylistic approach on secondary school students’ performance in Arabic poetry in Ilorin West, Kwara State, Nigeria. A quasi-experimental design in forms of the null-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design was adopted for the study. Two secondary schools were sampled, a schools constituted the experimental group, while the other served as the control group of which hundred students participated in the study. Fifty students each were both in the experimental and control groups respectively. The Arabic Literature Performance Test (ALPT) was used for data collection. Both groups were exposed to pre-test to determine their previous knowledge and post-test after being taught for five weeks. Analysis of Co-variance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses formulated at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that Arabic students taught with stylistics approach perform better than their counterpart taught with conventional method. The study recommended that teachers of Arabic literature should employ the use of stylistics approach alongside other effective approaches while teaching poetry, National Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS) should inculcate the culture of organising workshops for literature teachers to appraise and equip them with the use of stylistic approach and other teaching approaches.Item RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STUDENTS’ LEARNING OUTCOMES IN WAEC AND NECO ARABIC LANGUAGE EXAMINATIONS IN NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA(Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 2021-12-23) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHI; Abdul Ganiy Abdus Salaam, OladosuLearning outcome is one of the top priorities for school. It is the outcome of education, the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has achieved their educational goals. Learning outcome is commonly measured by examination or continuous assessment, but there is no general agreement on how it is best tested or which aspects are most important. The research method employed was a descriptive survey of correlational type. Using a multistage sampling technique. Nine hundred and forty-eight (948) students of candidate that sat for Arabic Language examination in North-central Nigeria were logically selected with purposive sampling technique between 2015 and 2019. Proforma was used as research instrument and collected the 2015 to 2019 WAEC and NECO SSCEs results. The percentage and the Pearson’s chi-square via contingency table were used for data analysis, while symmetric measure of Cramer’s V was used to determine the degree of association between the variables. The study revealed among others that, the learning outcome of students in Arabic WAEC and NECO SSCES was excellent. The paper concluded that teachers of Arabic should work harder to sustain students’ outcome in the subject.Item Secodary Schools Teachers' Attitude Towards up-take of Covid-19 Vaccination in Kwara State, Nigeria(Institute Journal of Studies in Education, 2018-03-23) Masud Ibrahim, Oniye; Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHIThe coronavirus is a fast spreading deadly pandemic that has taken away many lives and distabilised the totality of the world economy. The need for strong immunity against it has been the main focus of governments worldwide. This study examined the attitude of secondary school teachers’ towards uptake of Covid-19 vaccination in Kwara State. The study population was 14,432 secondary school teachers in Kwara State, out which, 372 respondents were randomly selected from 12 secondary schools across the three senatorial district is in the state. The self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents; which has a test re-test reliability coefficient of 0.79. Out of the 372 copies of questionnaire administered, 359 copies were valid for data analyses. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the data collected for this study. The percentage distribution of the respondents’ attitude towards COVID-19 vaccination revealed a negative attitude towards coronavirus vaccination uptake among secondary school teachers in Kwara State. The independent t-test result also revealed that the male and female respondents were differed in their attitude towards Covid-19 vaccination (t = 2.06; p = .040 < .05). It was recommended that the governments and stakeholders in education sector should organise orientation programmes, in shaping the attitude of secondary school teachers positively towards COVID-19 vaccination so that they can display interest in its acceptance and increase their level of willingness to uptake the vaccine.Item Stakeholders’ Perception of the Role of Arabic Education in Promoting Religious and National Values among In-School Adolescents in Kwara State, Nigeria(Department of Arts Education, Faculty of Education, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, 2019-08-24) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHI; Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHILanguage is the vehicle through which people’s culture is transmitted. It is an index of identity which serves as a repository of a people’s culture, industry and exploits. The relationship between language and society cannot be over-emphasized in the overall development of any community. This paper examined the stakeholders’ views on the role of Arabic education in promoting religious and national values among in-school adolescents in Kwara State, Nigeria. The stakeholders in this study consisted of members of Muslim community organisations, Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers/lecturers, undergraduates/ postgraduates of Arabic and Islamic Studies, and parents in Kwara State. All these groups of people constituted the population for this study. 774 stakeholders were sampled using a simple random sampling technique. Researcher’s designed questionnaire was used to elicit information from the participants. This instrument was validated by two experts and yielded a co-efficient of 0.72 when subjected to a test-retest reliability procedure. The data collected for this study were analysed using percentage and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significant. Findings obtained from this study revealed among others that Arabic education could promote in-school adolescents’ better understanding of Islam and promote religious and national values among them. There was a statistically significant variation in stakeholders’ views on the role of Arabic education in promoting religious and national values among in-school adolescents. The study recommended that government should abrogate the current elective status of Arabic and religious education at the Basic and Senior Secondary classes and make both compulsory subjects.Item Students' Attitudes and Achievement Motivation as Correlates of Performance in SSCE Arabic in Kwara State, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, JAMIA MILLIA ISLAMIA University, India, 2021-03-11) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHIThis study investigated students’ attitude and achievement motivation as correlates of performance in Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) Arabic Language in Kwara State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey method of correlational type was adopted for the study. Two hundred (200) students were randomly sampled for this study using simple random sampling technique. A researcher-designed questionnaire was used to collect data on students’ attitude and achievement motivation while a proforma was used to collect students’ results in SSCE Arabic Language. The reliability coefficient of 0.76 was obtained for the questionnaire. The percentage was used to answer research question one and two while research question three was answered using mean and standard deviation. The hypothesis postulated was tested using multiple regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that majority of students were positively disposed to Arabic Language, Findings also revealed that there was a significant correlation among students’ attitude, achievement motivation and academic performance in Arabic Language in Kwara State, Nigeria. It was therefore recommended, that Arabic teachers should make their lessons interesting to students using relevant illustration and resources which would promote readiness for regular and steady learning and also assist in developing positive attitudes in students towards their subjects. Students need to be provided with feedback on their actions such as marking their scripts and reinforcing good responses so that they can develop internally generated motives for performing well in their academic endeavour.Item Students’ Performance Comparison in Senior School Certificate Examinations Arabic and Islamic Studies in Kwara State, Nigeria(Published by the Department of Arabic Education, Faculty of Language and Literature, Indonesia University of Education, 2021-10-21) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHIArabic and Islamic education are inseparable as the knowledge of Arabic Language significantly complements that of Islamic Studies. This study investigated students’ performance in Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) Arabic and Islamic Studies in Kwara state, Nigeria in 2020 academic session. This study was a descriptive study of correlation type. The population comprised all the senior secondary students offering Arabic and Islamic studies in Kwara state. One hundred and fifty-six (156) students constituted the sample size using purposive sampling techniques to pick all public and private secondary schools that have records of students who sat for both Arabic and Islamic Studies in WAEC and NECO SSCE were logically selected in the selected schools across the sixteen Local Government Areas in Kwara state using researcher’s designed proforma. Both Arabic and Islamic Studies results in WAEC and NECO SSCEs were products of standardized, norm-referenced examinations and thus considered to be valid and reliable. Research questions were answered with the percentage, mean and standard deviation, while the hypotheses were tested with the Person’s Chi- square at 0.05 alpha level, and the symmetric measure of Crammer’s V was used to determine the degree of relationship between the variables. Findings revealed that majority of students performed at the credit level (A1 to C6) in Arabic and Islamic Studies, Also, a significant correlation occurred between students’ performance in Arabic and Islamic Studies SSCE. It was therefore recommended that, both the teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies should work together to sustain students’ performance in the two related subjects.Item استعمال معمل اللغة للتدريس اللغة الأجنبية: اللغة العربية نموذجا UTILIZATION OF LANGUAGE LABORATORY FOR TEACHING ARABIC AS A SECOND LANGUAGE(Published Department of Arabic Education Language, Sultan Idris Education University, Malaysia, 2021-12-25) Musa Siddiq, ABDULLAHIتحاول هذه الورقة إلقاء الضوء على أهمية الوسائل التعليمية بأصنافها الثلاثة: "الوسائل السمعية، والوسائل البصرية، والوسائل السمعية والبصرية" في تدريس اللغة الأجنبية وخاصة اللغة العربية، وتركز القول حول النوع الثالث وهي الوسائل السمعية البصرية ومن ضمنها معمل اللغة، وله أثر مرموق لترقية المهارة اللغوية والمحاصلة الهدف المنظم. وتحدثت الورقة عن مفهوم الوسائل التعليمية وأصنافها، مفهوم معمل اللغة وأنواعها، مميزات وضعف معمل اللغة، شروط استعمال معمل اللغة ومشكلات استعمالها. وتقدمت الورقة الاقتراحات إلى مدرسى اللغة العربية فى المعاهد والجامعات أن ينبذوا وراء ظهورهم استعمال معمل اللغة للتدريس اللغة العربية بكل ممكن. وأن يحاولوا كل المحاولة لينبه الحكومة وولاة الأمر إلى ما للمعمل اللغة من الفوائد حتى يسهل فهم اللغة العربية من أجل تحقيق الهدف المنشودة. This study examined the utilization of language laboratory for teaching of Arabic as a second language. It looked at the concept and types of teaching resources with special reference to the language laboratory, concept and forms of language laboratory, conditions guiding its utilization, and the problems and weaknesses of language laboratory. The paper concluded among others, that language laboratory will go along way in enhancing the students’ performance in learning Arabic as a second language. It was recommended that Arabic teachers at all levels should improve on the utilization of language laboratory so as to improve students’ performance in the subject, government and school proprietors should allocate funds for purchasing the needed resources in the language laboratory.
