O.; Oyekunle, R. AIn recent times, public schools in Nigeria have enjoyed some benefits in terms of deployment of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), but no constant attention and continuous interest is paid to fill the digital gap between schools in the rural and urban areas. The contribution of private sectors in the education system has elevated the use of ICT in both private and public schools especially in the urban areas of Nigeria. However, schools in rural areas have not benefitted much in this area. This research used community advocacy program referred to as COBES (Community Based Experience Scheme) to assess ICT literacy of secondary school students in a rural area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The study employed mixed research approach that combined both quantitative and qualitative data collection strategies. The initial findings of the study revealed low level of ICT skills among secondary school students in the rural area. Although, majority of the students who served as the respondents claimed they have computer teacher and can operate computer systems, yet, the study showed that there is dearth of ICT facilities for hands-on training. Nevertheless, through the one week long COBES program, the findings from three focus group discussion conducted at the end of the COBES program showed that students‟ interest to use ICT increased and majority of them expressed their willingness to continue interacting with computer and internet facilities. Findings further revealed that the main reason for low ICT skills is the lack of ICT facilities for teaching and learning. The study recommended that ICT project implementation should be uniform in all public schools in Nigeria, irrespective of whether it is located in the urban or rural area, adequate and skilled computer studies teachers should be made available and government should put in place mechanisms that will ensure proper maintenance of the ICT facilities.Item Challenges of Digital Preservation of Manuscripts to the Nigerian Education and Information systems(Routledge, UK, 2013) Abdulkareem, M.Y.; Isah, A.; Issa, A.O.Knowledge, as the engine that drives human civilizations and existence, must continue to be eternally preserved. Several organizations (government and private businesses) around the world have embraced the idea of e-government in their bid to improve service delivery to citizens. The objective of this study is to assess the compliance of e-records readiness at the Federal Ministry of Finance Nigeria (FMFN) using an e-records readiness assessment tool, and Integrating Records Management in ICT Systems. Due to the nature of the study, the pragmatic paradigm was used. This entailed the use of mixed methods, (i.e., quantitative and qualitative approaches) for data collection and analysis. The quantitative phase of the study used a survey questionnaire. A total number of 260 were distributed to respondents using purposively and randomly selected among various departments/units in the FMFN. The quantitative data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The result of the data collected from the study provides a better understanding of the level of e-records readiness, particularly, compliance with the legal policy and regulatory frameworks that govern the electronic record system in the ministry. The study stands to benefit the public sectors that are desirous of opting for e-records management in Nigeria and provide benchmarks for policymakers on e-record management, particularly compliance on how to maintain proper e- records readiness status.Item Influence of staff Training on quality of Library Services. A Case Study of University of Ilorin Library(Igbinedion University Okada, 2020) Isah, A.; Bashorun, M.T.; Abdulkareem, M.Y.; Olanrewaju, R.KThe purpose of the study was to examine the influence of staff training on the quality of library services in the academic library of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State. The research design used was a descriptive research survey method; the data were collected by means of a structured questionnaire designed by the researcher. To achieve the objectives of the study, five (5) research questions were developed. One hundred and seven (107) copies of the questionnaire were answered, returned, and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 21) programs for data analysis. The result of the findings shows that the majority of the respondents 67(62.6%) strongly agreed that staff training programmes improved the quality of service delivery to the clienteles. The findings also show that majority of respondents indicated that off-the-job training programmes do not support by the management simply because the management feel that more hands are needed to man the library and there is no fund to support that kind of training programme. However, 88 (82.2%) respondents strongly agreed that outstanding performance should be adequately rewarded whereas 6 (5.6%) respondents disagreed. The study, therefore, recommends that the management should make provisions for librarians and other library staff to spend time in developed nation’s libraries for the purpose of skill acquisition and to be abreast of the latest development in the profession and global best professional practices.Item Information Needs of Public Library Patron: A survey of users of Kwara State Library, Ilorin, Nigeria(The Pacific Northwest Library Association, 2011) Issa, A.O.; Abdulkareem, M.Y.; Isah, A.; Kupolati, K.S.Item Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Condition of service of Librarians in Nigerian Federal University Libraries: mixed method apprach(International Journal of Information Processing and Communication, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, 2016) Akanbi, M.
