Item Acceptability of Organoleptic Properties of Melon and Soya Beans Soup Blends Produced with Indian Spinach.(Asian Regional Association for Home Economics., 2017) Babayeju, A. A.; Adebisi, T.T.,; Gbadebo, C.T.; Kolade, IABSTRACT The study investigated the acceptability of organoleptic properties of and consumption of melon (egusi) and soya bean soup blends produced with vegetable (Indian spinach) which was observed to be poorly accepted in consumption. The aim of this study was to analyze the organoleptic properties and the consumption level of melon and soya beans soup blends produced with Indian spinach. Descriptive research design and sensory evaluation was used. The study population comprised three hundred and fifty students from 100-500 level with a sample size of 40 respondents were randomly selected from each level. Panelist used ratios of melon and soya beans 20:80, 40:60, 60:40, 100:0 50:50, and 80:20 for the sensory evaluation and the result was analyzed using 9-point hedonic scale. A well-structured questionnaire was also used to assess the level of acceptability and consumption of soya bean; the results were statistical analyzed using mean, standard deviation and ANOVA and tested at 0.05 significant level. The findings revealed that the control, melon 100% soup had the highest acceptability in terms of colour, aroma, texture and general acceptability. The finding shows that the use of melon and soya bean soup blend is acceptable up to 60% inclusion level. The result obtained shows that there are set back in the acceptability and consumption of soya beans with melon in Nigeria. Therefore, it is recommended that Indian spinach has the potential of improving meal if included in the soup. Soya beans products should be properly processed to avoid constipation and other side effect. Specifically, the study extracted dye from indigo leaves and compared it with synthetic indigo dye applied to the same texture of cotton fabric. Four objectives and two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significant.. Experimental research design was adopted with a population of 150 dyers stratified with 20% to obtain a sample size of 30 dyers. The instrument was sensory score card accessed with 7 point hedonic scale. The data collected was based on appearance, colour brightness, texture, smell, length, finishing and overall acceptability. Data collected was analyzed with mean, standard deviation and t-test. The findings showed a significant difference between fabrics dyed with indigofera tinctoria solvent and synthetic indigo dye on cotton fabric. All results based on sensory score card were accepted. The study concluded that there was a wide range difference in the level of acceptability of onion skin and synthetic dye on fabric. It was recommended that the knowledge of indigenous dye should be added to the curriculum of textiles courses as these will broadens the knowledge of students in dyeing of fabric with different plants, animals and minerals that produces dye for entrepreneurial development in Nigeria.Item Consumer Acceptability and Proximate Analysis of Selected Snacks Produced with Natural Sweeteners for Children and Consumers(Published by Family and Consumer Sciences Society of Nigeria (FACSSON), 2020-10-21) Gbadebo, C.T.; Babayeju, A.A; Opaleke, D.O; Adefila, O.A; Oluwadare, A.AThe study investigated consumer acceptability and proximate analysis of selected snacks produced with selected natural sweeteners. Four (4) research questions were raised and one (1) hypothesis were formulated and tested. The research design adopted for this study is Research and Development Design (R&D). Judges were presented with 8 coded samples. These were evaluated for appearance, aroma, texture, taste and overall acceptability. Sensory Evaluation was judged on a 7 point hedonic scale ranging from“1”which indicates “Dislike” to “7” which indicates “Like’’ extremely using sensory evaluation score card (SESC). Proximate analysis was determined by calculating the nutrient content (Moisture, Protein, Ash, Fat, Crude fibre, and Carbohydrate). One way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test for the significant differences in the nutrient and sensory properties of the samples. Result of sensory properties revealed that sample CHS (Chinchin with 100% sugar) was the most preferred in appearance, aroma, taste and overall acceptability (6.47±0.90). Result of nutritive composition showed that sample CHH (Chinchin with 100% Honey) has the highest protein (10.52%), fat (20.45%) and fiber (2.55%) contents. Result of hypothesis one revealed a significant difference (P<0.05) in the sensory evaluation of selected snacks produced with sugar only and those produced with selected natural sweeteners The study concludes that snacks produced with natural sweeteners are nutritive for all classes of people. It was recommended that here should be continuous education in nutrition to advise people of the health benefits of snacks produced with these natural sweeteners (date and honey) as it contain high nutritive, antioxidants and medicinal contents for the growth and development of children and consumers.Item Factors Influencing Utilization of Soybeans among Homemakers in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State(Journal of Home Economics Research Association of Nigeria, 2017-09) Opaleke, D.O.; Adebisi, W.O.; Gbadebo, C.T.The study assessed the food intake of pregnant women in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select 130 respondents from 650 population. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results showed that majority (68.5%) of the respondents were between age 20-29, Muslims (69.2%), with primary school education (43.8%), marketers (76.2%) with income between 4000-6000 naira and have at least two (2) children. Majority of the respondents (92.3%) agreed to consume more cereals and (82.3%) meat and (39.2%) less of vegetables, (30.0%) fruits and (29.2%) milk products, which are necessary during pregnancy. The study revealed that the major source of information was health center (98.5%) but information gotten was not utilized appropriately. The major constraints faced where Inadequate income (mean = 1.59), cost of food (mean =1.31) and pregnancy condition (mean =1.12).Item Influence of Entrepreneurship Education on the Future Career of Adolescents in Senior Secondary Schools in Kwara State.(Association for the Promotion of Education, Health, Environment and Technology Research,(APREHET) University of Benin, Benin, Edo State., 2021) Gbadebo, C.T.; Odusote, J.P; Adeniji, O.T.; Oyegunwa, O.RThe study investigated the influence of entrepreneurship education on the future career of adolescents in senior secondary school Ilorin South. Five (5) research question were raised and one (1) hypotheses formulated and tested at 0.05 levels of significance. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The total population was one thousand five hundred and fifty four (,1554). The sample for the study comprised one hundred and fifty adolescents from three senior secondary schools constituting 9.7% of the population using proportionate sampling technique. Entrepreneurship Education Questionnaire (EEQ) was used for data collection. Research question 1-5 were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean (x) and standard deviation (SD. The null hypotheses formulated in the study was tested with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).The hypotheses was tested at 0.05 level of significance. 57(38%)males and 93 (62%) females participated in the study. The findings revealed that entrepreneurship education will influence career development and help students develop new ideas(X̅=3.47, 90%) have a new approach (X̅=3.55, 96%) for career development. The findings of the hypothesis shows that entrepreneurship education significantly influence career development of adolescents (P< 0.05). The study concludes that entrepreneurship education significantly influence career development of adolescents in secondary schools and helps in future career choice. The study recommends development of a sound curriculum for entrepreneurship education in all schools with qualified teachers employed and provided with adequate equipment.Item Influence of Domestic Violence on Marital Relationships and Family Sustainability among Married People During Covid 19 Pandemic in Ilorin West Local Government, Ilorin, Kwara State(Published the Society for Home Economists in Nigeria (SHEN)., 2021-12-31) Gbadebo, C.T.; Oluwafemi, O.E; Oyegunwa, O.R; Aladewolu, V.T; Babayeju, A.A; Kareem, M.BDomestic violence is a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Some couples experience domestic violence due to nagging, religious beliefs, culture, alcoholism and this sometimes run into problems and naturally couples are not meant to be abused. The study investigated influence of domestic violence on marital relationships among couples in Ilorin west LGA in Kwara State. Five (5) research questions were raised and two (2) hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 levels of significances. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The total population was one thousand eight hundred and thirty three (1,833). The sample for the study comprised two hundred (200) respondents constituting approximately 11% of the population. Multistage sampling techniques was used to select sample for this study. 200 couples were selected at random from Ilorin west LGA, Kwara State. Domestic Violence and Marital Relationship Questionnaire (DVMRQ) is the instrument that was used for data collection for this study. Research questions 1-5 were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation and cross tabulation. The Null Hypotheses formulated in the study were tested with inferential statistics such as t-test and pearson product moment correlation at 0-05 level of significance at which the hypotheses was rejected or accepted. The findings revealed that domestic violence significantly influence marital relationships among couples as they experience lack of peace in the home ( 3.17) 50% , lack of unity in managing resources ( 3.01) 40.5%, lack of communication between partners ( 3.01) 42.5%, reduction in love for one another ( 2.96) 39%, deprivation of family needs ( 2.71) 27.5%. Result of the findings revealed that domestic violence significantly influence child upbringing as they experience intense anxiety, worries or new fears ( 2.76) 35.5%, become easily startled, jumpy or nervous ( 2.75) 38%, avoid spouses during violence ( 2.68) 31.5%, have repetitive talk or play about the violence ( 2.52) 27%, have problem going to sleep or being sleepy ( 2.50) 29.5%. The study concluded that domestic violence significantly influence marital relationships of couples as they experience lack of peace in the homes, lack of unity in managing resources, lack of communication between partners, reduction in love for one another, deprivation of family needs, can lead to aggressive sex against spouse. Couples should practice open communications to avoid problems. The study recommends that couples should develop trust and not being judgemental with each other in order to maintain stable relationship.Item Influence of Economic Status on Fashion Trends among Undergraduates in University of Benin, Edo State. Two research questions were raised and two hypotheses was formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for this study consisted of all 300 level undergraduate students in Vocational and Technical Education Department, University of Benin Benin City, Edo State of Nigeria, numbering Two hundred and thirty (230). The sample for the study comprised of 300 level students in Vocational and Technical Education Department University of Benin numbering-one hundred (100) selected using multi-stage sampling technique. The instruments had reliability index of 0.73 . Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation.. Data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistics such as, frequencies, percentages, mean(x), standard deviation(SD) and inferential statistics. The Null Hypotheses formulated in the study were tested with inferential statistics such as, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Independent t-test. All null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level/of significance. The findings revealed that socio economic status does not significantly influence fashion trends among Undergraduate Students in University of Benin. (p > 0.05). The findings also revealed that there was no significance difference between male and female undergraduate students in their opinion as it relates to fashion indecent practices by other students in university of Benin. (p > 0.05) It was concluded that socio economic status does not significantly influence fashion trends among Undergraduate Students in University of Benin. Five specific objectives, five research questions were formulated with one null hypotheses associated. Survey research design was adopted. The population for the study was 335 drawn from the three primary school in Ilorin West Local Government, Ilorin, Kwara State. A sample of 150 respondents from classes 4, 5, and 6 were randomly selected for the study. The instruments used for data collection were a self design questionnaire, and report cards. Frequency distribution and percentages were used to analyze the data obtained from the respondents. Result revealed that global challenges Influencing Involvement in Child Labour include – inability of parents to pay school fees, to assist parent, single parenting, because of family low income, polygamous and price hike of items. Result of research question three on level of child labour revealed 25 (16.7%) were never involved in exploitative child labour, 88(58.7%) were sometimes involved in exploitative child labour, while 37(24.7%) were always involved in exploitative child labour. Result of hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance and was rejected (P<0.05). The findings, showed child labour affect pupil’s academic performance.It was revealed on the academic achievements by pupils exposed to labour were mostly females, compared to their male counterparts. The study recommended that parents should stop exploitative child labour and teachers should be educating the children about the effect of child labour. It also recommended that government/parents should develop strategies to reduce or eradicate child labour activities despite global challenges.Item Influence of Global Climate Change on Life Styles of Family Members in Ilorin South LGA of Kwara State(Published by the society for Home Economists in Nigeria(SHEN), 2020) Gbadebo, C.T.; Babayeju, A.A; Adeniji, O.T.; Oluwadare, A.A; Oyegunwa, O.RThis study examines the influence of global climate change on life styles of family members in IIorin South LGA Kwara State. Five research questions were raised and three hypotheses formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised people from Ilorin South L.G.A, numbering 2,820. A total of 220 residents constituted the study sample. The instrument used was questionnaire tagged Global Climate Change Questionnaire (GCCQ) and was developed by the researchers based on the objectives and research questions formulated.. The instrument has reliability index of 0.74. Data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistics, percentages, frequencies, mean and standard deviation. The null hypotheses were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and t-test.. The results revealed that family members in Ilorin South LGA are aware of Global Climate Change and agreed human activities causes global climate change. (¯x>2.50). The results further revealed that climate change significantly influence health and adaptive Behaviour of family members (p<0.05). The results revealed a significant difference between male and female on influence of Climate Change on Life Styles of family members (p<0.05). The study concludes that global climate change significantly influence lifestyles (health and adaptive Behaviour) of family members in Ilorin South LGA Kwara State. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the health sector should identify major regional health hazards caused by climate change and develop risk-lessening adaptations. Workshops, seminars and forums on climate change adaptation and mitigation should also be organized to raise awareness and promote climate change adaptation,Item INFLUENCE OF LONG-DISTANCE MARRIAGE ON FAMILY LIFE PATTERN AMONG WORKING CLASS COUPLES IN OYO STATE.(IJFACS, 2019) Gbadebo, C.T.; Opaleke, Deborah OluyemisiThe study investigated the influence of long-distancemarriage onfamily life pattern among the working-classcouples in Oyo State. Three (3) research questions were raised and one (1) hypothesis was formulated and tested at 0.05 levels of significances. Survey research design was adopted. The total population was two thousand nine hundred and twenty-five(2,925). A sample of 150 working class couple was selected from Oyo State Government Secretariat, Ibadan using proportionate sampling techniques Long Distance Marriage Family Life Questionnaire (LDMFLQ) was the instrument used for data collection. Research questions 1-3 were analysed using frequency counts, percentages, mean (x), and standard deviation (SD) while the hypothesis was tested with Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The findings revealed that problemsencountered in long distance marriage include loneliness (= 2.94) 72.6%, difficulty inachieving personal needs of the family (= 3.03)78.7% among others. Result of the findings also revealed that long distance marriage influence family life pattern of working-classcouples as they experience lack of warm and comfortable relationship (= 2.95) 71.3%, and inability to fulfil conjugal relationship (= 2.52) 51.4%. Majority (60.7%) claim they were able to maintain balanced diet even with an absent spouse. Long distance marriage significantly influencesfamily life pattern of working-classcouples (p<0.05).Thestudy concluded that Long distance marriage significantly influence family life pattern of working-classcouples.Therefore, couples should be makingout time to visit one another and practice open communication to avoid inability to fulfil conjugal relationships.Item nfluence of Gender and Age on the Clothing Practice among Undergraduates of Universities in Kwara State.(Asian Regional Association for Home Economics., 2018) Obalowu, M.A.,; Babayeju, A.A.; Gbadebo, C.T.Abstract Influence of gender and age on the clothing practices among undergraduates was investigated. Two research quest8ions and hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Survey research design was adopted with a sample size of 1,066. Data was collected and analyzed with Mean scores, t-test, and ANOVA. The findings revealed that undergraduates by gender did not differ in their clothing practices while there was a significant difference in their ages. It was concluded that gender has no influence on the clothing practices while age has. It was recommended that undergraduates should be educated on good and acceptable clothing practices. The aim of the study is to investigate nutrition education on graceful aging of senior secondary school staff in Mushin Local Government area of Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of this study is one hundred and ninety-one (191). Sample size for the study comprised one hundred (100) staff. The instrument used in carrying out this study is questionnaire titled - Nutrition Education on Graceful Aging. The study revealed that majority of respondents agreed to the statement that nutritional education can promote graceful aging, teaches that over nutrition causes problem such as obesity, similarly, majority of respondents also agreed that source of nutrition education and graceful aging are gotten from their academic background and also agreed that nutritional education and graceful aging campaign should be intensified through various media such as radio, television programme, and social media among others with. It is also revealed that majority of respondents agreed that skipping meals and eating more than adequate is against nutrition education and graceful aging and also responded that considering all the junks that can be on social media, is important to properly research all information pertaining to nutrition and graceful aging before utilizing it . It was revealed that there was a difference statistically in male teacher's educational background and that of their female counterparts as the hypothesis was rejected. Having analysed the survey data, it is possible to say nutrition education plays a pivotal role in graceful aging and that education attainment is also a key factor in enjoying graceful aging.Item Production and Assessment of Quality Attributes of Zobo Drink Enriched with Date and Mango for Family Sustainability in Retirement(Published by Home Economics Professional Association of Nigeria (HEPAN)., 2022-06) Gbadebo, C.T.; Aladewolu, V.T; Adeniji, O.T.; Babayeju, A.A; Okunloye, R.O; Kareem, M.B; Salawu, S.AThe study assessed the quality attribute of Zobo drink enriched with Date and Mango. Four (4) research questions were raised and one (1) hypothesis formulated and tested @ 0.05 level of significance. Research and Development Design (R& D) was adopted. Judges were presented with four possible formulations of Zobo drink enrich with Date and Mango-ZO=100% Zobo Only, ZD=50% Zobo+ 50% Date, ZM=50% Zobo+ 50% Mango, ZDM=40% Zobo, + 30% Date + 30% Mango. Sensory Evaluation was judged using 7 point hedonic scale. Nutrient contents of the products were calculated to determine the proximate analysis. The result shows that the sample ZD=Zobo and Date was the most preferred in colour, taste and overall acceptability 6.35(±.62).. Findings of nutritional value revealed that Sample ZO=Zobo only has the highest protein (2.14%) and moisture content (92.55%) ZDM=Zobo, Date and Mango has the highest fibre, carbohydrate and ash content (1.30%). Findings of hypothesis revealed a significant difference in level of acceptability of Zobo drink enriched with Date and Mango in varying proportion (P<0.05). The study concludes that Zobo drink enriched with Date and Mango is suitable for consumption and therefore recommends that the drink should be encouraged as it increases opportunities for both young and old people to drink healthy vitality drink instead of the carbonated drinks. Retiree could start production of Zobo drink enriched with Date and Mango on a large scale for sale to increase their financial stability.Item Proximate Composition and Sensory Evaluation of Guinea Corn Meal Enriched with Soybean and Groundnut for Infant Feeding(, Published by Faculty of Food Technology Osijek, Osijek, Croatia., 2021) Gbadebo, C.T.; Ahmed, L.TThe study determined the proximate composition and sensory evaluation of Guinea corn(Sorghum bicolor) meal enriched with soybeans (Glycine max) and groundnut (Arachishypogaea)for infant feeding.Three (03) research questions were raised and one (1) hypotheses formulated and tested at 0.05 significant. The research design adopted for this study is Research and Development Design. The panelists used for the study comprised of forty (40) Nursing Mothers, who have children age 6 month-2 years. The panelists were presented with 6 coded samples produced from a composite of seven possible formulations of Guinea corn blend enriched with soybeans and groundnut. The study used Sensory Evaluation Score Card, which was filled by participants during the testing session. Proximate analysis was determined by calculating the proximate composition of the products with Association of Analytical Chemists method. One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test for the significant differences in the proximate and sensory properties of the samples. Findings of proximate composition revealed that GCS(Guinea corn and Soybean) has the highest protein (14.98%) and moisture content (48.82%). For sensory evaluation, the sample GCG(Guinea corn and Groundnut)was the most preferred with mean score 6.25(±1.01) while the sample GCO(Guinea corn only) was the least preferred with mean score 4.25(±1.51). The findings of hypothesis revealed a significant difference between the sensory qualities of guinea corn only and guinea corn enriched with soybeans(p<0.05) Based on the findings, the study concludes that Guinea corn blend enriched with soybeans and groundnut increases the nutritive and sensory qualities of the products and therefore suitable for children feeding. It was recommended that guinea corn blend enriched with soybeans and groundnut should be incorporated into children feeds to increase the intake of balanced diet by the children and prevent malnutrition in infants.Item Strategies for Coping with Economics Recession: A Case Study of Female Lecturers in University of Ilorin, Nigeria(Journal of Home Economics Research Association of Nigeria, 2018) Opaleke, D.O.; Gbadebo, C.T.; Adeniji, O.T.This study explored strategies for coping with economic recession adopted by female lecturers in university of Ilorin, Nigeria. It was a survey. The population consisted of 367 female lecturers, out of which 200 lecturers were sampled for the study through multi-stage sampling technique. Questionnaire was used for data collection. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics while ANOVA was used to test hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Findings reveal that there is no significant difference in the mean responses on academic activities related coping strategies, as well as agricultural production related coping strategies adopted for surviving economic recession by female lecturers in university of Ilorin based on faculties. It was recommended among others that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in universities of Ilorin should organize seminar to promote planning and budgeting among the university lecturers and families also female lecturers in university of Ilorin should be encouraged to employ home gardening and agricultural strategies. Three research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated and tested. The study employed a descriptive research design that questionnaire was used to solicit information from the respondents. The total population of youths was 324235(100%), 0.5% (162) youths were purposively sampled for the study. The reliability co-efficient of the instrument was 0.859. The instrument was collected on the spot of distribution to avoid misplacement and mutilation. The data was analyzed using simple statistics such as frequency counts, percentages and mean for research questions while chi-square was used to analyze research hypotheses formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that majority of the respondents had formal education, unemployed and are Muslims. In addition, majority of them earned ₦27,000 – ₦30,000 (USD 75 – USD 84) monthly. Also, the grand mean scores of articles that quilting, applique and patchwork techniques can be used for are above 1.50 decision rule of 3-Likert scale while the measure of factors that enhanced the production are above 3.00. Furthermore, there was no significant relationship among the production of quilting, applique and patchwork techniques and entrepreneurial development among youths as empowerment skills. Conclusively, the findings showed that the problems of unemployment facing youths can be resolved by utilizing these techniques for soft furnishing production. Among the recommendations stated are: there should be more awareness of its utilization and creations of more markets for salesthrough; sensitization, seminars, workshops and trade fares. In addition, youths should be more creative and equip themselves with more on empowerment skills so as to prevent from nuisance acts in the society and experience more meaningful life. _________________________________________________________________________________________
