Item ADVANCING A MODERN METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH TO ISLAMIC STUDIES(NIGERIA ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF ARABIC AND ISLAMIC STUDIES (NATAIS), EKITI-STATE CHAPTER, 2023-05) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleThis paper presents a novel methodological framework for research in Islamic studies that addresses the evolving nature of Islamic thought and practice. The framework integrates interdisciplinary perspectives, embraces new technologies, and emphasizes contextual analysis. The first component involves engaging with disciplines like sociology, anthropology, history, and political science to gain a comprehensive understanding of Islamic studies. This interdisciplinary approach enables the exploration of the social, cultural, and political dimensions of Islam. The second component leverages modern technologies, such as digital humanities tools and data analytics, to analyze large datasets and uncover patterns and trends within the Islamic world. This use of technology allows researchers to explore previously inaccessible topics. Contextual analysis is another crucial aspect of the framework, examining Islamic practices and beliefs within specific historical, cultural, and social contexts to develop a nuanced understanding of Islam's diversity and adaptability. Overall, this paper offers a modern methodological approach that integrates interdisciplinary perspectives, utilizes modern technologies, and highlights the significance of contextual analysis. By adopting this framework, researchers can contribute to a comprehensive understanding of Islam in the contemporary era.Item Al-Burhan Multipurpose Cooperative Society: Islamic Microfinance and the Welfare of Muslim Community in the University of Ilorin(Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS), University of Ilorin, Ilorin, 2017) Fahm, AbdulGafar Olawale; Oladosu, MubarakItem An Appraisal of the Features and Content of Yaseen Ibrahim Al-Sheikh's Our Own Islamic Creed: Basics and Pillars(Gombe State University, Gombe, Nigeria, 2021-06) Imam, Ambali Tajudeen; Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleItem Beyond Good Practices and Standards: An Islamic Framework of Sustainable Business Practices for Corporate Organisation(Islamic Research Training Institute (IRTI), 2018-01) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleThe aim of this paper is to explore why, how and when a business organisation may choose to go beyond good business practices and standards. In writing this article, the researcher sought to engage with modern secular insights about sustainable business practices for corporate organisations and to be in critical dialogue with those insights. The study addresses the questions of how can corporations develop into responsible moral agents and what effective framework can be used for sustainable business practices within an Islamic setting? It proposes to incorporate Islamic ethical principles such as ikhlāṣ (sincerity), ‘ilm (knowledge), ḥikmah (wisdom), hilm (forbearance) and rifq (gentleness), sabr (patience), tawaadu’ (humility), qudwah (good example), husnul-Istimaa’ (good listening), shajaa’ah (courage), karam (generosity) into corporate business practices. This study is an effort to bring religion into our economic lives, which invariably means bringing religious ethics into what is supposed to be free of such values.Item BOKO HARAM’S CLAIM TO A ‘CALIPHATE’: IS IT CREDIBLE?(International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS), 2017) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleAs Boko Haram tries to establish a new caliphate, while imposing Shari’ah law and persecuting and kidnapping young girls, it is timely to enquire into both the workings of the early caliphate and the role an Islamic state should play in the world. The aim of this paper is both to counter Boko Haram’s approach to the caliphate and examine the administration of Umar bin Abdul Aziz (715-717CE). The article is qualitative, permitting a descriptive and historical approach. This study examines Umar bin Abdul Aziz as a devoted Muslim who set new standards for what a Muslim ruler should be like. This study suggests that, despite Muslim dreams of a ‘return of the caliphate’, this concept means different things to different people. While Boko Haram violently struggles for power, Islam encourages sovereignty based on honour and gained through better actions and faith.Item A Brief Analysis of the Meditation on Death in Sufism: With Reference to Al-Ghazālī and Rūmī(Common Ground Publishing, 2014) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleMany world religions use teachings on mortality as an integrated strategy for ethical training and spiritual growth. The theme of death forms one of the most important foundations of Ghazālī and Rūmī's thought. The concept of death is presented and interpreted from interesting angles in relation to Islamic spirituality. In the writings of Rūmī, for instance, the idea of dying before death is a recurring theme. In the works of the two Sufi scholars, death is seen as a way of attaining high spiritual life. The present paper examines the various metaphors, imagery, and allegories related to death in the famous works of the two authors. Their ideas speak volumes of their genius, especially when speaking of a concept without shape and form.Item The Da'wah Themes in the Works of Ahmed Deedat(University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Nigeria, 2020) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleThis study highlights the contributions of Ahmed Deedat to Da‘wah (Islamic propagation). It also examines the various themes in his works and identifies the unique nature of his da‘wah. Through historical and descriptive methods the paper has able to decipher patterns in Ahmed Deedat’s approach to Islamic propagation, particularly on comparative religious issues. His works on Islam and comparative religion can be seen as succeeding in arousing the consciousness of the adherents of different religions especially Christians and Muslims. In other words, his Da‘wah focused primarily on the theme of the Qur’ān, Muhammad, Islam, Jesus, Bible, and God as a way of propagating Islam. This paper, therefore, concludes that Ahmed Deedat’s outlook on Da‘wah has implications for Islamic propagation and opens the way for further dialogue among adherents of different religions.Item Interactions Among Muslims and Non-Muslims in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State as Purveyor of Peaceful Co-Existence(Department of Religions Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria, 2020) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleItem Islam, Good Governance and Community Development in Contemporary Times: The Case of Nigeria(Pan-African University Press, Austin, USA, 2022) Fahm, AbdulGafar Olawale; Adebisi, A. Since the 1980s several Muslim women led organisations have emerged in Northern and Southern parts of Nigeria, some of which have formed networks to advocate for Muslim women’s rights. Therefore, to identify the contributions of FOMWAN in Nigeria, this article looks at the emergence of Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) in particular, an organisation which was established more than three decades ago. Drawing empirical evidence from activities of FOMWAN and using historical and descriptive approaches to analyse the data, this study outlines how FOMWAN strategically engage in development projects and thus further their own vision of development. This paper discovers that FOMWAN envisages a world where women are completely enabled to be good role models in making a beneficial impact in the society. FOMWAN supports the religion of Islam in Nigeria through Da’wah (invitation and propagation), the establishment of educational institutions and other outreach activities. It also works towards the improvement of the conditions of the people, especially women, youths and children through training, provision of qualitative education, health, and humanitarian services, micro-enterprise scheme and advocacy as ways of playing its social responsibility role. It is, therefore, anticipated that this paper will add to the body of knowledge on Muslim women, especially as it relates to Nigeria and provides some insights to Muslim women organisations operating in Nigeria.Item Mutual Moderation as a Panacea for Boko Haram Insurrection(Department of Religious Studies, Gombe State University, Gombe, Nigeria, 2015-12) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleNigeria is a big, intricate, and for all intents and purposes complex country, with multifarious ethnic groups and devotees of various religious affiliations. While there have been stints of ethnic and religious violence among different groups in the country, none have posed the kind of threat that Boko Haram currently poses. A considerable amount of literature has been published on the development and sustaining factors, the modus operandi, networks, support base, motivations, goals, rivals, and militancy of Boko Haram. A much debated question, however, is what Nigeria government claims in relation to the situation and whether government provides a communal and just approach in dealing with the group. This study intends to examine the position of government in its confrontations against Boko Haram. It will also examine how moderate and balanced are the steps taking by the Nigerian government. Within the period of 10 years in which this problem began, has the government been able to mitigate activities of Boko Haram? Has the measures proposes by the government worked or not? The conclusion of this study shows that it is crucial for the Nigerian government to toll the path of moderation, justice and balance in dealing with the situation. It also provides the practical steps Nigerian government can take in resolving this impasse.Item Readings and Mis-Readings of the Divine Mind: A Review of Yasir Anjola Quadri's All in the Name of God(Department of Religions, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2017) Fahm, AbdulGafar Olawale; Oladosu, MubarakItem Religious Intolerance and Disunity in AbdulRasheed Abiodun Adeoye’s The Killers (A Social Drama)(University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria and University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana, 2019) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleItem Resolving the Share-Tsaragi Crises through the Internal Mechanisms of Religion and Inter-Marriage(Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2021) Olademo, O.; Omotoye, R. O.; Aboyeji, Adeniyi Justus; Abubakre, Samiat O.; Adebisi, A.A.; Fahm, AbdulGafar Olawale; Adimula, Ruth AbiolaShare and Tsaragi, two neighbouring communities in KwaraState, Nigeria, have not yet imbibed the culture of peaceful co-existence. There have been about six commissions/panels on the two communities’ boundary dispute between 1976 and 2015, whose recommendations have either been rejected by warring parties or never implemented by the relevant authorities. The focus of this study is to examine how religion and inter-marriage could lead to lasting solution andreconciliatory measures to foster peace in the inter-communal conflict between the two communities, which have lingered for too long. The study was both descriptive and analytical. The primary sources of data collection were questionnaires, and structural interview. The Likert Scale was used to measure the response on all dimensions of 128 respondents selected, using a convenience sampling technique. Structural interviews and confidence building workshops were conducted with/for stakeholders in the two communities. Data analysis was done using SPSS software, simple percentage and descriptive analysis, respectively. The secondary sources focused on journals, textbooks and the internet relevant to the research topic. Two-key findings of the study are: lack of readiness by the two communities to imbibe genuine spirit of give and take and the viability of religion and inter-marriage as internal mechanism to resolve the crisis. This study is anchored on the territorial theory with three approaches bordering on proximity, interaction and territoriality in explaining why communities rage and wage wars over boundary or territory related matters.Item The Role of Islam in Community-Trade in Coastal Yorubaland(Bauchi State University, Gadau, Nigeria, 2019) Adebayo, Rafiu Ibrahim; Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleReligion has historically played an important role in providing socio-economic benefits in many Yoruba-speaking areas. However, the contribution of religion in community trade is insufficiently recognized and mapped. In the same vein, trade had played an important role in the introduction and spread of Islam in Coastal Yorubaland. This interconnectivity of Islam and trade in the land therefore deserved to be studied, as hardly could one be divorced of the other. The objectives of this paper therefore are: to carry out a systematic assessment of the role of religion in community-trade in coastal Yoruba-speaking area with particular reference to Islam and to examine the community-trade factor in the spread of Islam in the region. Efforts to document and analyze the contribution of religion in community-trade in coastal Yorubaland are necessary in order to increase the recognition of religion and spirituality in public domain.Item “Ruin the Body”: A Discourse on Death and Annihilation in Rumi’s Mathnawi(University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria and University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana, 2019) Fahm, AbdulGafar OlawaleItem Socio-cultural implications of Share-Tsaragi crises in Kwara State for peaceful co-existence in Nigeria(Faculty of Humanities, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Nigeria, 2023-06) Fahm, AbdulGafar Olawale; Olademo, O.; Omotoye, R.
