Item Influence of Self-Monitoring in Preventing Bullying Behaviour as expressed by In-school Adolescents in Ilorin, Nigeria(Institute of Medico-Legal Publications Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi, India, 2019-02-21) Adebayo, David O; Tajudin, Mohd N; Esere, Mary OBullying behaviour among in-school adolescents is generating concerns among researchers in recent times. This issue can be addressed through self-monitoring. This study examined the influence of self-monitoring in preventing bullying behaviours among in-school adolescents with samples drawn from 10 purposively selected secondary schools. Three research questions were raised while four hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. Survey was employed for the field work. A total of 200 secondary school students participated in the study. Researcher-designed questionnaire entitled “Influence of Self-Monitoring on Bullying Behaviour Inventory (ISBBI) was used to elicit information from respondents. Mean, t-test and analysis of variance were used to analysis the data. Respondents appreciated the effectiveness of self-monitoring in preventing bullying behavior. Results also indicated that respondents appreciated self-monitoring exercise as a veritable strategy for reducing incidence of bullying behaviours. Recommendation include integration of behaviour modification technique with particular emphasis on the principles of self-monitoring as this could reduce incidence of bullying.Item Marital communication:(Institute Journal of Studies in Education, Institute of Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, 2016-11) Esere, Mary O; Adebiyi, Damilola R; Adebayo, David OA correlational survey design was used to determine the mediating and moderating role of emotional intelligence on marital communication of married adults in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Its major aim lies in knowing whether there is any significant relationship between emotional intelligence and marital communication. Three hundred and eighty three (383) married adults from three Local Government Areas participated in the study. The results showed 66.8% of the respondents had moderate level of emotional intelligence, while 64.0% had moderate level of marital communications. It was also revealed that emotional intelligence had high, positive and significant relationship with marital communication, while the moderating variable of gender and age were significantly related with emotional intelligence and marital communication. Furthermore, findings from this study revealed a significant difference in the emotional intelligence and marital communication of male and female married adults. It was recommended that there is the need for improved awareness to be created by the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) on the relationship that exists between emotional intelligence and marital communication so that counsellors can train couples in developing good communication and high emotional intelligence.Item Perceived causes of youth restiveness by security personnel in ilorin metropolis(Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), 2015-07) Esere, Mary O; Ajiboye, Samuel K; Adebayo, David OYouth restiveness has been a pandemic plaguing countries across the globe in recent times. The rising wave of restiveness culminating in insecurity and terrorism is quite alarming, with the most vulnerable group being the youths and other teeming youngsters in societies world over. This study therefore investigated perceived causes of youth restiveness by security personnel in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria. The design adopted for this study was the descriptive method. Three null hypotheses were formulated and tested in this study. A questionnaire tagged “Restiveness among Youth Questionnaire (RAYQ) was administered on two hundred and forty (240) security Personnel, cutting across military and para- military agencies in Kwara State. Nigeria. The study raised and answered a fundamental question on perceived causes of youth restiveness. The formulated hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance, while analysis of variance (ANOVA) was the statistical method used for data analysis. The results showed the causes of youth restiveness as poor childhood upbringing, bad societal mentoring, bad governance, poverty, inadequate educational opportunities, among others. It further revealed that there was no significant difference in the perception of security personnel on the causes of youth restiveness in Ilorin metropolis based on the type of agency and years of experience. The researchers recommended effective counselling hints as intervention strategies for handling youth restiveness in order to bring sanity into the society as a whole.
