    Alcoholism: A Harmful Lifestyle to Healthful Living in Nigeria.

    Alcoholism is a behavioural deficit as well as harmful lifestyle habit resulting from excessive consumption of alcohol beverages. It is harmful pattern of living adopted by alcoholic person to modify moods and emotional state of the abusers. This review critically appraises alcoholism as a harmful lifestyle to healthful living. The review examines meaning of alcohol, types of alcohol as well as alcoholism. This paper also delves into the determinants of alcohol intake by people in the society. The appraisal x-ray in detail Alcoholism: A Harmful lifestyle to health living in Nigeria. It was concluded from the review that excessive consumption of alcohol beverages has devastating effects on physical, physiological, psychological, and socio-economic wellness of its abusers. Based on this conclusion, the paper recommended that health educators and health counselors should mount campaigns against consumption of alcohol beverages. Also, government should make an enabling laws and edicts to impose serious sanction(s) on consumption of hard liquor or alcohol beverages.

    An assessment of household food security as antedote for prevention of malnutrition among people of Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State

    This paper assess Impact of Household Food Security in Prevention of Malnutrition among people of Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State. Stratified random sampling technique was employed to select six hundred and fifty respondents used for the study. The instrument used in gathering information for the study was researchers structured and developed questionnaire that had been adequately validated by experts in fields of nutrition education and health education. The instrument was pilot tested using tests-retest reliability method, and a reliability coefficient of correlation of 0.82r was obtained. A descriptive research design was adopted for the study. In all, four research hypotheses were formulated and tested were analyzed by the use of chi-square (x²) statistical method. The finding from the study shows that household food security have greater impacts on prevention of malnutrition within the households; It is also revealed that household food security ensure adequate supply of different food stuff needed by people within recommends that government should ensure provision of strategic food reserves which the people call fall back on in times of adversity like drought and other natural disasters; Also, all members of family should endeavour to budget and make adequate provision for family foods.

    An assessment of predisposing factors of sexually transmitted diseases among secondary schools students in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State.

    The study assessed predisposing factors of sexually transmitted-diseases among secondary schools students in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. The population for the study comprises of all the secondary school students within Ilorin metropolis. Descriptive research design of survey method was adopted for the study. A multi stage sampling technique was used to select 200 respondents consisting mainly of secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis. A self designed structured questionnaire which was adequately validated and tested for reliability was used. In all, three (3) research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The data collected were analysis using chi-square (x²) statistical method. The result of analysis revealed that unprotected sex predisposes secondary school students to sexually transmitted infections in Ilorin metropolis. Lack of adequate knowledge of causes of sexually transmitted diseases also serves as a predisposing factor of the infections among secondary schools students in. Ilorin metropolis. The study recommends that awareness and sensitization programme should be organized in order to educate the young people about sexually transmitted infections especially the secondary school students; government and non-governmental organization should mount campaign against pre-marital sex, unprotected sex and other health risk behaviour among secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis.

    Assessment of factors influencing uptake of national programme on immunization among people in Chanchaga LGA, Niger State.

    This study assessed the Factors influencing uptake of national immunization programme among people in Chanchaga L.G.A., Niger state. Immunization has brought sound health to many children in the world, reduced the agony experienced by parents during child rearing and reduced the mortality rate among children. The purpose of this study was to examine cultural belief, fear of parents, religion, level of service and uptake of national immunization programme among people in Chanchaga L.G.A., Niger state. Descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for the study. The population comprised of all people in Chanchaga L.G.A., Niger state. A multistage sampling technique which consist of simple random sampling technique, purposive and convenience sampling technique was used to select 384 respondents for this study. Questionnaire was validated by three experts in the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education for data collection from the respondents. A reliability coefficient (r) of 0.76 was obtained through split half method using Spearman Brown for analyzing data generated. The inferential statistics of Chi-square was used to analyze the data collected for the postulated null hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level. The findings revealed that: 1. Cultural belief of people is a significant factor influencing the uptake of National Immunization Programme among people of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State because the calculated value 271.20 is greater than the table value 21.3 2. Fear of parents about immunization is a significant factor influencing the uptake of National Immunization Programme among people of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State because the calculated value 175.76 is greater than the table value 21.3 3. level of coverage of service of people will significantly be a factor influencing the uptake of National Immunization Programme among people of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State because the calculated chi-square value 247.09 is greater than critical table value of 21.03 (Cal x2 val > Tab x2 val) The study concluded that cultural belief, fear of parents, religious belief and level of service are factors influencing the uptake of National Immunization Programme among people of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State. It was therefore recommended among others that there should be sensitization programme by health workers to community leaders and indigenes in villages in order to publicize the benefits of immunization, parents should be well informed by health workers or through media before the start of immunization programmes to reduce the fear about immunization among others.

    Bridging Managerial Knowledge Gaps: Enhancing Care or Autism and Learning Disabilities through Evidence-Based Practices

    This clinical/research area targets the management of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and learning disabilities (LD) characterized by multi-layered neurodevelopmental and educational problems. This article discusses the importance of managerial knowledge to the successful implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs) to improve care outcomes for people with ASD and LD. This article provides an overview of the characteristics of ASD and LD along with the implications of these for strategies of care. It underlines how much a competent manager contributes to effective service delivery, resource allocation and environments that are inclusive of families and people who want to reach their full potential. Lack of managerial knowledge is one of the major barriers to EBP diffusion, which is defined as practices that are guided by the best available researched information and clinical expertise. Illustrating your decision on some EBPs like Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and TEACCH, describing how could they improve the skill acquisition and social interaction of an individual with ASD and LD. Yet sustainable staffing, resource constraints, and reluctance to change are ongoing challenges that deepen knowledge gaps and hinder implementation. The article then provides actionable recommendations, calling for structured training programs, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the establishment of supportive policies that emphasize continuous learning and stakeholder engagement.Overcoming knowledge gaps among managers through the implementation of EBPs is crucial for improving the quality of care in autism and learning disabilities and truly calls for a future whereby evidence-based strategies become the norm of practice so that all people affected achieve the best possible outcomes.

    Comparative analysis of national population policy and population control in Nigeria.

    The paper reviewed the viability of National population policy in controlling of population explosion in Nigeria. The paper delved into the concept of population explosion, factors responsible for high population growth rate and barriers to effective population control in Nigeria. It examined effects of population growth on health care delivery services in Nigeria. It also x-rayed in detail the activities of National Population Policy on population control in Nigeria, National Population Policy Objectives, strategies and challenges of implementing National population policy in Nigeria among others. The study concluded that National Population Policy is a laudable and multi-dimensional measures needed for effective control of population explosion in Nigeria. The reviewer suggested that government should sensitize people at all levels on the provision entrenched in the population policy. It was also recommended that government should use all methods available to secure full community supports and participation in the implementation of the policy programmes. Health workers should sensitize people on the need for child spacing to reduce the number of children for each couples.

    Effect of Health-Education Intervention on Knowledge and Adherence to Covid-19 Protocols among Kwara State Secondary School Students.

    This research examined whether or not secondary school pupils in Kwara State understood and followed COVID-19 recommendations after receiving a health education intervention. A quasi-experimental approach was taken for this study. Participants' entering behaviours or prior knowledge were assessed, and participants' knowledge gains following the intervention were measured using a non-randomized pre- and post test control group design. All high school senior students in Ilorin, Kwara State, were included in the study, but only 116 students from the Ilorin East and South LGAs were surveyed for the study. Students in senior secondary school from two distinct local governments were randomly selected using a multistage selection procedure. The results showed, for example, that students who were exposed to the COVID-19 protocol (treatment intervention) scored higher on the post-test regarding their knowledge of COVID-19 compared to those who were exposed to the personal hygiene protocol (placebo), who scored higher on the post-test regarding their knowledge of COVID-19 but scored lower on their adherence to the COVID-19 protocol. The study revealed that the health education intervention significantly improved students' knowledge of and compliance with COVID-19 protocols in Kwara State's secondary schools. Consequently, it has been proposed that professional associations spanning several fields collaborate to provide health education interventions aimed at fostering compliance with COVID-19 standards, with a particular focus on the male demographic

    Environmental degradation: meaning and its effect on human health in Nigeria

    This paper examined the meaning and effects of environmental degradation on health and well being of people in Nigeria. The paper x-rayed in detail types of environmental degradation, effects of environmental degradation on health and wellbeing of man in Nigeria. The review shows that environmental degradation have serious effects on health and wellbeing as seen from desertification, deforestation, poor waste disposal, environmental pollution and so on. Based on the appraisal, it is recommended that government at all levels should make enabling laws to control indiscriminate dumping of wastes in the environment. It is also recommended that government should endeavour to plant trees and embark on large scale farming to control desertification and deforestation problems.

    Environmental Management Education and Promotion of Health and Well-being of People in Ibadan Metropolis, Oyo State, Nigeria

    This study examined impacts of environmental management on promotion of health and wellbeing of people in Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State. A descriptive research design of survey method was adopted. The population of study comprised all people within Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State. A multi stage sampling technique was employed to select four hundred(400) respondents used for this study. The research instrument used in gathering information on the study was structured questionnaire. A test-retest method was employed to determine the reliability of research instrument used for the study. A reliability coefficient of correlation of 0.79 was obtained. In all, three (3) research hypotheses were formulated and tested with the use of chi-square (x²) statistical method at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result of analysis shows that environmental management education has greater impact on physical wellbeing of people. Also, environmental management education has much impact on mental wellbeing of people. Based on these findings, it was recommended that people should desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste products to prevent diseases affliction and physical injuries. Also, government should enact enabling law to prevent misue and abuse of environment.

    This paper reviewed the harmful effect of genital mutilation on the reproductive health of women. The paper examined the concept genital mutilation and the procedures involve in carrying it out. It highlighted the types, reasons, as well as complication of female genital mutilation. This paper further appraised the general health effects of genital mutilation on the reproductive health of women. Recommendations were given on how to curb the menace of this age long practice.

    Harmful social cultural practices: An impediment to healthful living in Nigeria.

    This study examined harmful socio-cultural practices as an impediment to healthful living in Nigeria. It x-rayed in detail, the impacts of lifestyle and societal norms and values on people health and well-being. The paper also takes a critical look at impacts of some if the harmful socio-cultural practices on people's health and well being, implications of harmful socio-cultural practices on physical, physiological, mental and social well being of people. It is revealed from the appraisal exercise that harmful socio-cultural practices posed serious problems to health and well being of people in Nigeria. Based on the findings from the review, it is recommended that governments at all levels should mount serious campaigns on sensitizing people on harmful effects of some socio-cultural practices.

    Health workers perceived hindrances to implementation of national programme on immunization among people in Kwara State, Nigeria

    Background: Childhood preventable illnesses that cause high rates of morbidity and mortality in Nigeria include poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, and hepatitis. Some factors prevent the effective implementation of the national immunization program among Kwara State residents, despite numerous interventions aimed at preventing them through routine immunization. This study investigated inadequate funding, lack of community involvement, and low public awareness as factors that prevented the implementation of the Kwara State’s national immunization program. Methods: A descriptive survey research design with 460 respondents was used in this study. Results: The results showed inadequate funding, low community involvement, and low public awareness impede the successful execution of the national immunization program in Kwara State, Nigeria. Conclusion: In Kwara State, Nigeria, inadequate funding, lack of community involvement, and lack of public awareness impede successful execution of the national immunization program.

    Health workers perception of causes and prevention of drug abuse among people in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State

    This study examined health workers perception of causes and prevention of drug abuse among people in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. The study population comprises of all people in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select three hundreds (300) respondents mainly health workers used for the study. The main instrument used for collecting data for the study is researcher structured questionnaire which were validated and tested with the use of test re-test reliability method. A reliability correlation coefficient of 0.81 was obtained from the pilot test. In all, four (4) hypotheses were generated and tested with the use of chi-square (x²) statistical method at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that peer pressure constitutes significant cause of drug abuse. Also, drug education has assisted in prevention of perceptual drug abuse. Based on this finding the study recommends that parents/Guardians should try as much as possible to guide the conducts and be observant of their wards. There should be effective drug education on harmful effects of drug abuse and misused.

    Health workers views on importance of health education in attainment of optimal health for inhabitants of Ilorin, Kwara State

    Health Education plays crucial roles in the delivery and actualization of health care service objective. It is in determining that roles that this paper examined the Health Workers Views on Importance of Health Education in Attainment of Optimal Health for Inhabitants in Ilorin Metropolis. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. A total of 200 health workers drawn from the study population of 2060, constituted respondents for the study. Data were collected through the use of a self developed questionnaire that had been validated with r-value of 0.81 correlation coefficient obtained. Five research questions were formulated and data collected were analyzed with the use of frequency count and percentage. The result of the study generally revealed that health education plays important roles in attainment of optimal health of people in Ilorin metropolis. The result also shows that health education leads to positive change in behaviour; disease prevention, adequate utilization of existing health facilities and services, as well as promoting quick recovery after illness in Ilorin metropolis. Recommendations were made on the need for governments at all levels to organize from time to time workshops, seminar and conferences to update the knowledge of health workers for better performances. It is also suggested that governments at all levels should provide necessary facilities needed for smooth implementation of health education programmes.

    Impact of health education on prevention and control of Avian Influenza outbreak in Ilorin metropolis

    This study examined the impact of health education on prevention and control of Avian Influenza outbreak in Ilorin metropolis. Three hundred poultry farmers from the three local government areas of the metropolis constituted the sample. A structured questionnaire that had been scrutinized by experts in the field was used for the study. The instrument was found reliable at 0.80r coefficient of correlation with a test-retest method. Descriptive research survey was adopted for the study. Three research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Data collected were analysed by the use of-chi-square statistics. The result of the study showed that available health information exerts much impact on prevention and control of Avian Influenza infection. The result also revealed that the level of health awareness of poultry farmers have impact on prevention and control of Avian Influenza infection. It was therefore recommended that government should endeavour to sensitise the members of the community in general and poultry farmers in particular on the risks and complications associated with Avian Influenza infection; and that poultry farmers should ensure regular and prompt sanitation to prevent breeding of the viruses causing the disease as well as preventing its spread.

    Impact of school health programme on heath of primary school pupils in Moro Local Government, Kwara State.

    This paper examined the impact of school health programme on school pupils in Moro Local Government, Kwara State. A sampled population of three hundred primary school teachers made up the respondents for the study. The result of the study showed that healthful school living has much impacts on the health and well being of primary school pupils; school health services have much impacts on the overall health of the primary school pupils. The study recommends that the school authority should endeavour to keep the school environment clean and tidy; parents should join hand with the school personnel to improve and maintain the health and well being of the school children.

    Impacts of physical exercise on mental wellbeing of local government employees in Oyo Town, Nigeria

    The study examined impact of physical exercise on mental well being of local government employees in Oyo town, Oyo state, Nigeria. The population of study comprised of all employees in the existing three local government in Oyo metropolis on unified grade level 07 and above. Multi stage sampling technique was used to select one hundred and twenty (120) respondents used for the study. The instrument used for data collected for the study was researcher structured questionnaire which was validated and tested with the use of test-retest method. A reliability coefficient of correlation of 0.79r was obtained. In all three (3) research hypotheses were drawn and tested with the use of chi-square (x²) statistical method at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The finding of the study reveals that participation of local government employees in physical fitness exercises have much impact on their mental alertness. Also, participation of local government employees have impact on reduction of work stress. Based on the findings above, it is recommended that local government should endeavour to make provision for establishment of recreational centre within the local government for better fitness exercises.

    Implication of gender based violence on health and wellbeing of women in Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State

    The paper examined implication of gender based violence on health and wellbeing of women in Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State. A descriptive research design of survey method was adopted. Four hundred women were selected through stratified random sampling technique. Three research hypotheses were formulated and tested with the use of chi-square statistical method at 0.05 alpha level. The instrument used was structured questionnaire. A reliability coefficient of correlation of 0.78 was obtained with the use of test-re-test method. The data gathered were analyzed with the use of chi-square statistical method. The result of the analysis shows that gender based violence have much implications on physical wellbeing of women in Ilorin South local government, Kwara State. It was also revealed from the analysis that gender based violence have greater implications on mental wellbeing of women in Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State. Based on these findings, the study recommend that government should make and strengthening enabling laws to stop gender based violence. Also, government and non-governmental organization should strengthening campaign against gender based violence.

    Implication of selected socio-cultural practices on reproductive health of women of childbearing age in rural areas of Oyo Town, Oyo State.

    This study examined the implication of some socio-cultural practices on the reproductive health of women of childbearing age in rural areas. Stratified random sampling was employed to select 368 respondents for the study; the instrument used was a self-structured and developed questionnaire, validated by experts in the field of community health, health education and reproductive health. The instrument was then pilot-tested twice with the use of split half method and a reliability coefficient.88r was obtained. Three research hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance and the data collected were analyzed by the use of chi-square statistics. The findings showed that early marriage and female genital mutilation have serious implications on reproductive health of respondents. It was therefore recommended that government and non-government organizations should embark on enlightenment campaigns and invest in reproductive health education for rural women.

    Influence of teachers conditions of service on pupils academic performance in health education in Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State, Nigeria

    This paper investigated the influence of teachers' conditions of service on pupils' academic performance in health education at primary schools in Ilorin South Local Government. Three hundred primary school teachers drawn from ten selected primary schools constituted respondents and sample population for the study. A structured questionnaire that had been adequately validated by experts in the field was used for the study. The instrument was found reliable at 0.82r coefficient of correlation using the test-retest method. The survey research design was adopted for the study. In all, three research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Data collected were analysed by the use of chi-square statistical method (x²). The results show that remuneration received by teachers has much influence on pupils' academic performance in health education; and that prompt promotion of teachers has greater influence on pupils' academic performance in health education. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that teachers should be adequately remunerated by paying an attractive salary to them to boost their morale.
