Essence and Operations of Advertising Agencies
(Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015) Udende, Patrick; Adegoke, Rukayat Ololade
The paper discusses that agencies are set up to counsel, plan, prepare and execute promotion programmes on behalf of their clients. Anchored on the General Systems theory, it shows that in order to establish an agency, registration, a functional office, professional and skilled personnel in advertising and equipment are imperative. The paper posits that an agency is not self-reliant; it depends on services of creative boutiques. against the backdrop that agency's performance is undermined by certain factors like inability to meet dateline, irregular power supply and low patronage occasioned by high commission, the paper recommends among other things meeting datelines, improvement in source of power supply and that full-service agencies in particular should charge reasonable and affordable commisions to encourage teeming advertisers to enjoy their creative expertise.

Gender Roles and Attitudes in the Workplace: Assessment of Human Attributes and Gender Differentiation in Media Houses
(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015-12) Abdulbaqi, Saudat Salah; Adegoke, Rukayat Ololade
The media is recognised as a reflection of the society just as it is credited for shaping the society. This symbiotic relationship informs the blame cast on the former as regards promotion of gender stereotype. It is argued that, the pervasive power of the media on its consumers has been negatively employed in transforming gender representation in its content into the reality held by men and women about themselves and their roles in the society. Principally, the media is accused of engendering a statuesque in which women are subtly discriminated against. Therefore, this paper used the survey method to investigate gender operations within the media houses with the aim of establishing the prevalence and direction of gender discrimination and stereotype. Although findings obtained through a self-designed questionnaire reveal the existence of the glass ceiling phenomenon, it however, indicate strong, positive relationships between human attributes of staffers in the media houses regardless of their gender. Based on this, the study recommends positive work-attitudes from staffers, especially, female staffers to correct the age-long bias and stereotype against them.

Motivations for self-disclosure on social media among female students in Nigerian universities
(Department of Communication Arts, University of Uyo, Nigeria, 2017-10) Azeez, Adeshina Lukuman; Adegoke, Rukayat Ololade
The study examined the motivations for self- disclosure on social media among Nigerian female university students and how these motivations affect their usage of social media. Three research questions were designed to guide this study. A survey was conducted by administering 300 copies of questionnaire to students of University of Ilorin; Al-Hikma University; and Kwara State University. Copies of the questionnaire were administered through the multistage sampling technique and were analysed with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings indicated that Nigerian girls self- disclose information on social media to establish their identities and to gain more friends. The findings further revealed that Nigerian girls are hesitant about self- disclosure on social media because of their lack of trust for people on the platform. This could be attributed to why some prefer to self-disclose anonymously online.

Motives for the use of social media for consumption of mainstream media content among students of the University of Ilorin.
(Published by Cross River University of Technology, Calabar, Nigeria., 2017) Mustapha, Maryam Lasisi; Adegoke, Rukayat Ololade; Usman, Oyindamola Zainab
This study explores patterns of social media use among students in University of Ilorin and satisfaction they derive from using social media to consume mainstream media contents. Situated within the thesis of uses and gratifications theory, the study surveyed 382 students of the University of Ilorin, via convenience technique. Generally, participants agreed they use the social media to access news easily and know what is going on in the society. The study also revealed that user-friendliness, self-development, educational opportunities, convenience in communication, and enhancement of self-development, wide exposure, global exchange, and relaxation motivated their usage of the social media. Findings suggest that the gratifications offered by mainstream media are being better met by the social media. In addition accessibility, interactivity, mobility and multimediality emerged as specific gratifications obtained from the social media. It is thus recommended that the social media platform be unbundled in order to profile gratifications offered by individual medium with a view to ascertain how youth access mediated information in the contemporary time

Political Rivalry Signification in Newspaper Reportage: An Xray of the 2015 Presidential Election in Nigeria
(Department of Mass Communication, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, (ESUT), 2015) Popoola, Muyiwa; Adegoke, Rukayat Ololade
Scholarly submissions are rife in political communication literature that conflict escalation in a political system is a reflection of the manner in which the media handle issues of conflict; and that a full blown conflict can have its antecedent in political rivalry. There have been scholarly works on the gate keeping and agenda setting roles of the media in political conflicts, but the actual role the Nigerian media play in political rivalry is inadequate in available empirical works. Thus, this study was carried out to determine how newspapers deployed meanings and gave significance to political rivalry in the reportage of the 2015 presidential election. The study period was November 2014 to December 2015 when the rivalry heightened between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Three Nigerian national newspapers were selected for the study, namely: The Punch, The Nation and Daily Trust. Purposive sampling was used to select 273 editorial items in 90 editions of the selected newspapers. The study used two research approaches: quantitative content analysis and dialectical hermeneutics in data gathering and analysis. This was done to determine the extent to which selected newspapers reported stories on political rivalry in respect of the 2015 presidential election and also to investigate what the selected newspapers signified in their reportage of the political rivalry that marked the 2015 presidential election. It was discovered that the vast reportage of the rivalry was largely negative as the selected newspapers overwhelmingly published stories that promoted rivalry between the presidential candidates of the two political parties. The reportage was largely unhelpful as it tended to promote calumny, hate speeches and vituperations between the parties. Thus, the reportage was at variance with the tenets of a conflict sensitive press.

Role of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Curbing Corruptible Tendencies among Public Servants in Kwara State Inland Revenue Service (KWiRS)
(Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, 2018-04) Abdulrauf-Salau, Aishat; Azeez, Lukuman Adesina; Adegoke, Rukayat Ololade
This study examined the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in curbing corruption among public servants in Kwara State Inland Revenue Service. Thus, this study specifically analyzed the relationship between ICTs and governance; Egovernance and corruption and ICTs and Integrated Tax Administration System in Nigeria (ITAS). It was discovered that even though successes have been recorded in the use of ICTs to fight corruption in some countries, there is a need to integrate the ICT initiatives with institutional support and commitment from stakeholders to make its fight against corruption very effective in Nigeria.
