A Re-Appraisal of Exegetical Views on ‛Iṣmah of the Prophet Yūsuf
(Islamic Qurarterly, London, 2017) Abdulwahab Danladi Shittu
Qur’anic exegetes engaged one another in a serious debate over the disposition of Prophet Yusuf at the time of great temptation as captured in Qur’an 12:24. Against this background, this work exegetically studied the view of some scholars regarding the infallibility of Prophet Yusuf with a view to identifying the appropriate interpretation of the verse in question. Findings of the work revealed that while some scholars only considered the divine protection enjoyed by Prophet Yusuf in a narrow sense, others underscored the person of Yusuf as a Prophet of Allah and placed him above all human tendencies. Another group however, maintained the middle course between the two groups above. This paper concluded that Yusuf was a Prophet of Allah who enjoyed divine protection against committing sins and at the same time, he was a human being who could have an inclination towards evil thoughts without having a determination to commit sinful acts.

Al-Ilori and Fundamental Human Right; An Appraisal of Huququl Insan
(Faculty of Arts, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, 2021-12) Abdulwahab Danladi Shittu; Ahmed. Y.S
This study examines the contributions of Al-Ilori to the discourse on fundamental human rights through an appraisal of of his work; Huquq al-Insan (rights of human beings) within the Islamic intellectual tradition. It explores how Al-Ilori’s scholarly work articulate a framework of human rights grounded in Qur’anic injunctions and Prophetic traditions, emphasizing dignity, justice, equality, and social responsibility. The paper situates his thought within both classical Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary human rights debates, highlighting areas of convergence and divergence with modern international human rights norms. Through a critical analysis, the study demonstrates that Al-Ilori’s perspective on Huquq al-Insan offers a morally anchored and community-oriented approach to rights, balancing individual freedoms with collective obligations. The appraisal further evaluates the relevance of his ideas in addressing present-day challenges such as social injustice, governance, and religious pluralism. Ultimately, the paper argues that Al-Ilori’s scholarship provides a valuable indigenous framework for understanding and advancing fundamental human rights in Muslim societies and beyond.

Peace is a condition for the development of a community even when conflict is inevitable considering the diversity in our society. The rampage threatened the peaceful coexistence of the city hence, the need for improved conflict management. This work studies the causes consequences and resolutions of the current Christian/Muslim crisis in the city of Ilorin with a view to suggesting preventive methods to future occurrence. Historical research method was deployed the work using a combination of structured interview, statutory records and observations for data collection and analysis. Findings of the work revealed that the struggle for dominancy by Christians in the Christian Missionary Schools is a major cause of the Christian/Muslim crisis in the town and the respect for law has helped in mellowing the crisis. However, if the government should stand on the enforcement of its blue print on how grant-aided schools should be coordinated, peace in the various missionary schools could be extended to the town. Islamic features in the poetry of Isa Alabi Abu Bakr: Praising the Prophet through the voice of the Prophet as a model
(Department of Arabic and Trans National Studies, University of Ilorin, 2025) Abdulwahab Danladi Shittu
Nigerian Arabic poetry tends to lean more toward religion than culture. This is mainly because the poets are Muslim scholars within society, and they often write poems with the primary aim of spreading the religion of Islam. Among the most prominent Muslim poets in Nigeria is Abubakar ‘Īsā Alabi, who made significant contributions to the field of Arabic poetry. This study examines some of the poems he composed to confirm that Nigerian Arabic poetry, despite being written in the Arabic language and addressing some cultural topics, is predominantly Islamic in nature. The study employed a combination of analytical and descriptive research methods to collect and analyze data. The findings reveal that Arabic poems have a more Islamic character than an Arab cultural one.

Strategies for Religious Conflict Management in Hassan Banna’s As Salaam fil Islam and its relevance to Nigeria
(The Department of Islamic Studies, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, 2021) Abdulwahab Danladi Shittu; Sulayman M.B
This study examines strategies for managing religious conflict in As-Salaam fi al-Islam by Hassan al-Banna, with particular emphasis on their relevance to contemporary Nigeria. The work explores al-Banna’s conceptualization of peace as a foundational principle in Islam, rooted in justice, tolerance, dialogue, and social cohesion. Through textual analysis, the study identifies key mechanisms proposed by al-Banna, including interfaith engagement, ethical leadership, community-based reconciliation, and the promotion of shared moral values across religious divides. The paper situates these strategies within Nigeria’s multi-religious and multi-ethnic context, where recurring tensions between religious communities have posed significant challenges to national unity and development. By drawing parallels between al-Banna’s framework and Nigeria’s socio-political realities, the study argues that his emphasis on mutual respect, inclusive governance, and non-violent conflict resolution offers practical insights for addressing sectarian violence. Furthermore, the research highlights the role of religious leaders and institutions in fostering peaceful coexistence, advocating for collaborative peacebuilding initiatives that transcend doctrinal differences. It concludes that while al-Banna’s ideas emerged from a different historical and cultural setting, their underlying principles remain adaptable and relevant to Nigeria’s ongoing quest for sustainable peace and interreligious harmony.

(Nigeria Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS), Ekiti State Chapter, 2023) Abdulwahab Danladi Shittu; Abdullateef Abdulazeez Aniyan
Private Islamic schools are institutions owned by individuals or corporate bodies for the teaching of Arabic and Islamic studies. These schools include both traditional Qur’anic schools and modern institutions dedicated to Arabic and Islamic education. The traditional Qur’anic and Ilimi schools found in communities across Nigerian society serve as feeders for modern madaris, which award primary and secondary Arabic certificates in Nigeria. The situation is not different in Erin Osun, Osun State. This study employs a historical research method, combining observation and interviews as data collection tools, to examine the growth and development of Islamic literacy in Erin Osun, with a view to determining the extent of its development in the town. The findings reveal that the growth of privately owned Islamic schools in Erin Osun has been slow, largely due to unfavourable learning environments and related challenges. Based on these findings, the authors recommend government intervention.
