Abstract
The paper had a colossal look at the theoretical approach to the study of motivation
and Employee Welfare in the public sector in Nigeria, The objectives are to implore
the underpinning theories to motivation and employee welfare also to examine the
role of theory of motivation and welfare on employees and organizational
performance in the public sector.
The paper is a position one and it implored achiever method through collection of
data and information from library, internet, journals and text books for its
methodology.
The result showed that variables, indices of motivation such as financial incentives,
fear. advancement, etc. are applicable to both public and private sectors of the
economy. Also the paper established that theories of motivation if properly and
adequately applied and monitored could enhance both employee and organizational
performance.
It was concluded that there is a thin line between the theory and practice of
motivation in terms of applicability to work force. It was therefore recommended that
adequate theoretical knowledge of motivation by managers and public unit heads
will help a lot to enhance employee and organizational performance on the long run
and it will create room for efficiency and effectiveness.
