Abstract

Poverty alleviation is any process which seeks to reduce the level of poverty in a country or among a group of people or countries. Therefore, this study employed the use of qualitative methods where structured questionnaire was administered to all entrepreneurship educators in the federal and state owned tertiary institutions in Oyo town, Oyo State, Nigeria. Thirty nine copies of the questionnaires were distributed to available entrepreneurship educators but thirty six copies were correctly filled and returned giving about 91.3 percent. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while paired t-test was used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Any item with mean rating of 0.01 and above were regarded as agreed while any item with mean rating below 0.01 was regarded as rejected. Based on the findings of this study, it is obvious that Entrepreneurship education programs in tertiary institutions could be used as a veritable tool for training students who can create varying jobs after graduation. The results show that refocusing entrepreneurship education programs for practical skills acquisition can contribute to establishing and managing businesses. It was recommended that students should be encouraged to be eager to acquire all the skills available to them in entrepreneurship education departments, and, government at all levels should be adequately funding entrepreneurship education programs for effective program delivery and sustainable economic development of the nation.
