Therefore, the study investigated teachers’ perceived sources of motivation in teaching civic education in senior secondary school in Ilorin. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of the study consisted of all civic education teachers in Ilorin East, South and West Local Government areas of Kwara state. While a sample of 100 civic education teachers was purposively selected across public and private senior secondary schools. The Teachers’ Motivational Inclination for Teaching Civic Education Questionnaire (TMITCEQ)” was designed and used to elicit information from respondents. The Cronbach Alpha reliability value of the items of the questionnaire is 0.78. Descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentage and mean were used to answer the research questions and hypotheses. Findings from the study revealed that passion for teaching as a profession, and respect for teachers in the immediate community among other types of job satisfaction were the major motivational inclination of teachers of civic education. Also, it was revealed that teachers in Ilorin, were motivated when there is, effective student entry behaviour for intensive classroom participation. However, it was also revealed that regular stipends in recognition that teaching the subject is somewhat an additional task and recognition for teachers’ opinion and supports motivates teachers in teaching civic education. A significant relationship was established between teachers’ motivational inclination and the teaching of civic education in senior secondary schools. The study also found that there is no significant relationship between teachers’ motivational inclination and teaching of civic education in public and private senior secondary schools. It was recommended that all education stakeholders should give maximum respect to anyone who chose to teach as a profession in their community. The government and all school owners should sustain the motivational modality that best inclined the teachers to teach civic education in both public and private senior secondary schools in Nigeria for the better attainment of objectives.en_US
