Abstract
Unemployment has become a major problem affecting the lives of Nigerian youth. The increasing militancy, violent crimes, kidnapping, restiveness and delinquent behaviour are all upshots of unemployment. Youth unemployment is devastating to both the individual and the society as a whole both psychologically and economically. The paper discusses the role the vocational and technical education in youth and empowerment to combat unemployment and achieve a sustainable development in Nigeria. It also recommends that government and other stakeholders should not only make job opportunities available but also put in place some mechanism and intervention that can be useful in training youths to possess skills which are congruent with real the labour market demand.
