Abstract
The research made an analysis of youth’s involvement in Cocoa farming in Ondo State. A total of 360 respondents were randomly selected from three local government areas in the state and the data generated from field survey through structured questionnaire was used in an analysis. Analysis of data collected was done with the use of descriptive statistics (Frequency, Percentage, Rank and Mean) and Multiple Regressions analysis. Findings shows that youths involved more in cocoa marketing (44%), storage (43%) and harvesting (40%). The major constraining factor to youth involvements were long time before returns (3.78), poor marketing outlets (3.63), insufficient capital (3.57) and people’s low perception of farming (3.08). The study concluded that youth involvement in cocoa farming in the study area was anchored on expected returns and profits; farming was seen to be for the educationally backward and the low class people; and most youths that were involved in cocoa farming were still under the guidance and tutelage of their parents. It was recommended that an agronomic research should be conducted to develop improved available credit facility to the youths at minimal interest rates.
