Abstract
This Paper assessed the level of Kwara State Government involvement
in literacy education programme in Ilorin West Local Government Area
of the State. Population of the study comprises of the facilitators and
the adult learners, nine hundred and fourteen. A sample size of 100
respondents was selected; multi-stage sampling technique was
adopted. A self-developed questionnaire was used as a major
instrument for data collection titled ‘Assessment of the level of
Government involvement in Adult Literacy programme Questionnaire
(AGIAEPQ). Three research questions were raised. The reliability test
of the instruments was done using test re-test technique and a coefficient
of 0.87 was obtained. The data collected were analysed using
frequent count, Percentages, mean and standard deviation. The
findings showed that though adult education has resultant effect on
the indigene of Ilorin west local government local government
involvement in adult literacy programme is very low (1.755%). It was
therefore, recommended that the government should be involve in the
payment of the facilitators and government should also provide
incentives and training to motivate adult literacy programme
personnel in the local government.
