Abstract
Election is hallmark of democratic system of government in all countries of the world. Elections are conducted to change a government in a violent-free manner fair to all participant and credible in the judgment of the international community. Whenever elections begin to turn violent or dangerous and injurious to human beings, it will eventually become the ruining of the democratic system. There are a lot of problems which election conduct can breed however, the menace of vote buying is seen as a panacea to all other problems. This is a quagmire that requires urgent attention. This study accesses how vote buying lacuna becomes election quagmire in Nigeria's democracy. The political business cycle theory; chaos theory and tire burning theory are used to analyse this phenomenon. The ethnography qualitative research method is adopted to analyse panoramic data-events from Nigeria electoral landscape. The conclusions and recommendations are premised on the rule of law and adherence and peaceful co-existence among the electorates and other citizens.
