Abstract

The importance of security in any financial sector cannot be over emphasized, a single factor authentication (username and password) is no longer sufficient. Therefore, a multifactor authentication is required to address security in financial systems. In this work, keystroke dynamics, a new behavioral biometric is proposed as an additional security measures. Keystroke dynamics is a very important tool for authentication with a high level of security which can be implemented to enhance other forms of authentication. This is achieved using static keystroke approach on passwords, statistical feature extraction method to analyze the keystroke time from hold-time and latency, and direct comparison with thresholds based on password length for users verification and authorization. This system is used in a web-based small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) sales and stock solution and also it provides a stronger security measure than the conventional password authentication.
