Abstract

Sufi Passionate love (العشق الصوفي) is an established genre in Nigerian Arabic Sufi poetry which has three categories and these are; divine love (الحب الإلهي), prophetic eulogy (المديح النبوي) and eulogy of the saints (مدح الأولياء). Shaykh Muhammad Nasir Kabara was a Nigerian prominent Sufi scholar who has explored many Sufi gernes in his collection of poems which are full of stylistic features. Amongst the numerous scholarly works that have been carried out in Shaykh Muhammad Nasir Kabara’s poems, no attention has been paid to his mīmiyyah on Sufi passionate love which has been purposively selected for this study by the two researchers. This study, therefore, aimed to critically study emotional styles deployed by the poet in the selected ode and the effects of the styles on the text and audience. The study adopted historical and descriptive methods. The historical method was used to document the biograpgy of Shaykh Muhammad Nasir Kabara using primary and secondary sources. The purposively selected mīmiyyah was subjected to a content analysis using descriptive method. Findings and necessary recommendations were made at the end of the study. الكلمات المفتاحية: العشق الصوفي، العاطفة، الأسلوب، محمد الناصر كبر، النقد، الشعر الصوفي Key Words:
