Abstract

Abstract Oil pipeline vandalism has become one of the major problems facing economic development in Nigeria. Thus this study investigates the role and challenges of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in combating Oil pipeline vandalism in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. The study utilized quantitative research method and adopted a descriptive survey using a structured questionnaire. Simple random sampling technique was use for the respondents where one hundred questionnaires were distributed to respondents within the study area in Warri and analyzed using simple percentage. The study found that ineffective equipment, lack of trained personnel, corruption and under reporting cases of pipeline vandalism are major factors militating against optimum performance of the officials of NSCDC. The study recommends funding for NSCDC, recruitment of more staff more eligible to man pipeline as well as the prosecution of vandals.
