(Nigerian Association of Education Administration and Planning (NAEAP), 2022) Yusuf, Habibat Abubakar
his study examined evaluation of the implementation of the national curriculum for French language in upper basic schools in North Central, Nigeria. The research design for this study is the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised of 311,540 learners spread across all urban public junior secondary schools in North Central (Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau States and FCT) zone while the sample size of 385 students was used for the study using the research advisor of Krejcie and Morgan sample size table at confidence level of 95% at 0.05 margin of error. The instrument used for data collection was a self-developed questionnaire structured on a 4-points Likert scale of Strongly Agree (4), Agree (3), Disagree (2) and Strongly Disagree (1). In establishing the validity, experts in research and evaluation were contacted for ace and content validation of the questionnaire while Cronbach alpha reliability statistic was deployed for the internal consistency of the instrument and yielded a reliability coefficient of ‗r‘-.84 to adjudge the instrument reliable. Data from responses to the research questions were analyzed using Mean with standard deviation. The findings of the study showed that participants accept that the nature of French is abstract (252 students which constitute 74% of total participants agreed to this), poor instructional strategy from teachers top the factors that could hinder the delivery and understanding of the contents as revealed by 72% of students who participated in this survey. Findings further revealed that some schools do not have French language teacher while some are being taught by Corps members and student teachers. It was recommended that poor teaching on the part of teachers need to be examined by the school administrators while experienced, passionate and trained teachers in language instructional delivery be deployed to schools while school administrator should ensure there is unhindered instructional delivery process.

The Mediating Effect of School-Based Management on School Climate, Bureaucracy and Effectiveness in Secondary Schools
(Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Management, 2019) Yusuf, Habibat Abubakar
School effectiveness is a global issue among education stakeholders particularly in developing countries where difficulties in delivering quality education is widespread. However, internal and external factors in schools make school outcomes unpredictable, thus making bureaucracy an effective managerial and analytical tool which can be used to examine and direct organizational structure. This study examined the mediating effect of school-based management on school climate, bureaucracy and effectiveness in secondary schools. A quantitative research of cross-sectional survey with population of 7,533 teachers was employed. Four sets of instruments were adapted and administered on sample of 350 teachers in Nigeria secondary schools through stratified random sampling of the proportionate method. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis was employed to test the fitness of data in relation to constructs in the model and further confirm hypotheses generated for this study. The findings of revealed that underlying predictors were true measure of their respective constructs. There is a mediation effect of school-based management on bureaucracy and school effectiveness while other path analysis revealed that school-based management did not mediate between school climate and school effectiveness. This study expands theory on bureaucracy as bright side and validates the assertion that, bureaucracy is required in public schools.

An adapted questionnaire titled “Principals’ Managerial Styles and Teachers’ Job Performance Questionnaire (PMSTJPQ) was administered to participants after being validated by three experts. Data collected were subjected to statistical analysis as the five research questions raised were answered using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation while the main hypothesis and three operational hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of Pearson product-moment correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The mean for the three sub-scales in PMSTJPQ were 3.12, 2.63, and 2.57 for participative, consultative, and collaborative managerial styles respectively, while the mean for PMSTJPQ was 2.96 for teachers’ job performance. Findings showed a significant relationship between principal managerial styles and teacher job performance in private secondary schools in Kwara State, Nigeria. Relationship between Performance Appraisal Criteria and Lecturers‟ Productivity in Universities in South-West Geo-Political Zone, Nigeria
(Asia Pacific Journal of Education, Arts and Sciences, 2017) Yusuf, Habibat Abubakar
Performance appraisal plays significant role in lecturers’ productivity. There is general opinion that the Nigerian university education is decaying in terms of the quality of its outputs, thus necessitating this study. The present study therefore investigated the relationship between performance appraisal criteria and lecturers’ productivity in universities in south-west geo-political zone, Nigeria. Correlational survey method was employed for the study. The population of the study comprised all 4,991 lecturers of the five federal universities in south-west geo-political zone, Nigeria. Proportional sampling technique was used to select 1,360 lecturers from the five federal universities using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sampling table. The study indicated that the level of lecturers’ productivity in teaching in universities in South-west geo-political zone, Nigeria is on the average; that level of lecturers’ productivity in research in universities in South-west geo-political zone, Nigeria is high; and that the level of lecturers’ productivity in community service in universities in South-west geo-political zone, Nigeria is low. The study concluded that to enhance lecturers’ productivity especially in teaching and community service, lecturers’ performance appraisal criteria must be reviewed. Based on the findings of the study, it was therefore recommended among others that the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National University Commission should review the performance appraisal criteria of academic staff especially those in humanities related disciplines.

School Climate and Its Impact on School Development in Nigeria
(Oxford University Press, 2020) Yusuf, Habibat Abubakar
Climate is a multifaceted concept in an organization, with few distinctions in the context of school settings. Although research on school climate stems from the study of organizational climate, and became a central variable in the educational research with a comprehensive review of the literature, there are significant differences in the approaches to the study of school climate. Scholars have studied climate at various levels of education, for example, elementary schools, secondary schools, and higher level schools as well as among teachers and school leaders. There is some divergence and variations in school climate across those contexts; there are also substantial similarities as shown in many past studies. School climate as a key player in school development can be driven by internal factors like interactive behavior and external factors such as school location, school size, student population, educational policies and socio-economic changes. Studies of climate in the educational context is multidimensional and can be viewed in a variety of ways due to diverse social effects. Climate has been investigated in relation to the general working environment of school, quality of school experience, school values and norms, interpersonal relationships of individual school members, teaching and learning practices, structure of the school, and feelings toward school life. In this regard, school climate is explored in relation to school development in Nigeria and focuses on those factors that have a greater potential to support teaching and learning practices, including school plants, school leadership, school culture, collegiality, school safety, and academic achievement. Relating these constructs to school development in Nigeria will give more precise and sizeable understanding on the importance of school climate towards attainment of sustainable school success.
