    Community participation in project execution for Sustainable Human Development: A Non-formal Education Approach

    This paper focuses on the knowledge and skills of community agents and village level workers as part of non-formal education process for ensuring community participation in project identification, selection and formulation for sustainable development at the grass root level. Conceptual clarification was presented sequentially together with skills needed by village level workers and community agents in stimulating community participation. It was concluded that the selection of sustainable community driven development projects is a matter that should concerned village level workers. It was further recommended that there is a need for community mobilization on the importance of active participation of all members of the community in any project designed for the development of their community. There is a need as well for wider dissemination of knowledge that will be geared towards a better understanding of community project its nature, dimension and its feasibility study.

    Impact of skills acquisition programmes on women socio-economics empowerment in Kaiama & Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State.

    Nigeria had embarked on many policies and programmes to enhance socio-economic development and create job opportunities for the citizenry especially among women. One of such programmes is the skill acquisition programme (‘SAP,). This study did on empirical assessment of the impact of skill acquisition programme on the socio-ec000mic development of women in Ilorin west and Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The study adopted the descriptive survey design of expost facto type Systematic and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 50 women across adult literacy center in both local government areas. A well-structured questionnaire was used to gather information from the sampled respondents. Two questions were raised and answered and the two null hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The finding of the study revealed that skill acquisition programme has significant impact of women socio and economic empowerment in Ilorin west and Kaima local government areas of the state. It was therefore recommended that government, donor agencies, non-governmental organization should provide more centres for adult learning and skills acquisition programme, credit facilities to beneficiaries encourage women mainstreamning and put in place proper monitoring and evaluation of such programmes.

    The paper examined the lifelong skills as a tool for adult development in Kwara State, Nigeria. The acquisition and refinement of lifelong skills are pivotal in the continuous development of adults, fostering both personal and professional growth. Lifelong learning encompasses a broad spectrum of skills, including cognitive, technical, social, and emotional competencies, which are essential for adapting to the ever-evolving demands of the modern world. This paper explores the significance of lifelong skills as fundamental tools for adult development, examining their impact on career advancement. The paper recommended among other things, the government at all levels should expand access to adult education programmes, including literacy, numeracy, and vocational training, particularly in underserved, areas, provide flexible learning opportunities such as part-time courses, evening classes, and online education to accommodate working adults and those with family responsibilities.
