With the re-introduction of shariah in Nigeria in 1999, criminals were tried for various offenses, and among those tried for the offense of fornication was Shafiyyatu Usman.. Verse 173 of suratul Baqarah is one of those verses from which these maxims are derived and for which Qur'an exegetes have variant interpretations. Using descriptive research,method, this work studied the position of a contemporary exegete, Az-Zuhayli on the meaning and scope of concession in islalm. Findings of the work revealed that even though concession is meant to ease the practice of religion, limitation is given to its use and therefore, scholars should extract more of the verses of concession and give them their deserved interpretation.Item Child Custody in Islam: The Nigerian Scenario(Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Taraba State University, Jalingo., 2014) Shittu, AbdulWahabMuslim scholars have extensively discussed rules governing the eligibility and hierarchy of Al Hadanah (Child Custody) but the social and cultural backgrounds of Nigerians make the implementation of the law difficult. It is to this background that this paper examined two tied cases of Al hadanah in a Nigerian shariah court of Appeal with the objective of identifying the practicability of shariah in the country. Historical research method was used for data collection and analysis and findings of the work revealed that some Nigerian Muslims are ignorant of the provision of shariah on the issue. Not only that, the society’s hostility to shariah is equally and impediment to the successful application of the law. It is on this background that this paper analyses the interpretation of the Qur'an 8 verses 60-62 by As-Sha'rawiy, contemporary jurists and exegete. The verse discuss the relationship of Muslims with the non Muslims at a time when the later demonstrates hostility against Muslims and later incline peace. these verses were given diverse interpretations by exegetes of the Qur'an especially respect of its status and abrogation, but the stand of the scholar in discussion along with those who support his view is embraced by the researcher because it gives a solution to contemporary global problem. This paper discussed his view in contrast to other opinions with the injection of establishing the relevance of his interpretation to religious tolerance in Nigeria in particular and in the world generally. Historical interpretive and inter-exegetical analyses were adopted for collecting relevant data of the work. Findings of the paper revealed that the exegete method of interpretation is an indication is an indication of his understanding of the contemporary society and contrary to the position of some other exegetes, his approach to interpretation of some verses. The organisation, in its bid to reach the grass root, inaugurates branches and prayer units at strategic locations throughout the federation and even beyond it's central coordination helps in preserving it's unique feature of taking aggressive approach in solving some of the contemporary challenges that are militating against the growth of islam in the world over. This paper examine some da'wah activities of the Ilorin branch of the organization with a view to identifying the role played by the organization in propagating Islam within and outside the Ilorin emirate using a historical research method. Data of the work were collected majorly from printed materials and oral interview with major stakeholders. Findings of the work revealed that notwithstanding, the numerous in-house da'wah activities of the branch, it's impact is rarely felt in the surrounding towns and villages of the city of ilorin and if the propagation I'd not taken out if these villages, the objective of the organisation would only be partially achieved.Item Umayr Ibn Sacd: A Model for Nigerian Governors(Faculty of Arts, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State., 2018) Shittu, AbdulWahabThe article is about Umayr bn sad Umayr ibn Sad became an orphan at an early age. His father died leaving him and his mother poor and destitute. His mother eventually married again, to one of the richest men in Madinah. His name was Julas ibn Suwayd who was from the powerful tribe of al-Aws. Umayr was well looked after by Julas and loved him as a son would love a father. Indeed he began to forget that he was an orphan.Umar made him a governor in Himms but later called him back to account for his stay in the office. Umayr was found innocent but rejected being given a second term in the office. this work, using historical research method, recommend the leadership style of Umair for nigerian governors
