Abstract
Islamic legal maxims are universal principles of the Islamic law that are expressed in concise statements to encompass general rulings in cases that fall under their subjects.. Sources of these principles include the texts of the Qur'an and the traditions of the prophet. Verse 173 of suratul Baqarah is one of those verses from which these maxims are derived and for which Qur'an exegetes have variant interpretations. Using descriptive research, method, this work studied the position of a contemporary exegete, Az-Zuhayli on the meaning and scope of concession in islalm. Findings of the work revealed that even though concession is meant to ease the practice of religion, limitation is given to its use and therefore, scholars should extract more of the verses of concession and give them their deserved interpretation.
