Item A comparative analysis of senior secondary school students’ performance in terminal and SSCE results in Christian Religious Studies, in Ogbomoso South Local Government, Oyo State(International Society of Comparative Education Science and Technology (ISCEST), Nigeria., 2016-12-10) Aburime, A. J; Saidu, A.The study examined relationship between students' performance in terminal and SSC Examinations as well as the differences in the academic performance of male and female students in the two examinations Ex post facto research design was adopted for this study.The target population comprised all the public senior secondary school students in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo state, Nigeria. A total of 300 students were sampled across 11 schools for the study using stratified random sampling technique.The research instrument used was a proforma tagged Christian Religious Studies Achievement Tes(CRSAT). Frequency counts and percentages were employed to provide answers to the research questions raised. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and student t-Test were used to analyze the null hypotheses generated at 0.05 levels of significance. Findings of this study showed that majority of the sampled students had pass grades (i.e. D⁷, and E⁸) in Christian Religious Studies in terminal examination i.e.118 (39.3%) students had pass grades. Also, more students passed at credit level in SSCE Christian Religious Studies. However, terminal exam recorded higher number of F, in Christian Religious Studies than SSCE (WAEC) for the May/June 2014 examinations across the sampled schools.The results of the hypotheses showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between students' performance in terminal and SSC Examinations in Christian Religious Studies. It was also revealed that significant differences exist in the academic performance of students in both terminal and SSC Examinations on the basis of gender. As a survey research, the instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire designed by the researcher. The number of teachers used were 100 (One Hundred). Ten randomly selected pre-primary schools (five) (5) in Ilorin South and five (5) in Ilorin West Local Government Areas ofKwara State constituted the sample size. The findings revealed that facilities like plastic/paper letters, number posters and charts, television and blocks of different shapes and colours were available in the pre-primary schools in Ilorin South and Ilorin West LGAs. Also, teachers made use of academic resources to enrich learners understanding. O.This paper examined the challenges and prospects of private secondary schools in llorin Metropolis as perceived by the proprietors/proprietresses.The research design adopted for the study was a descriptive type. A researchers-designed questionnaire was used in the study to obtain the necessary information from the respondents on their perception of the challenges and prospects of private secondary schools in llorin Metropolis.The reliability of Instrument was done by administering the questionnalre on ten (10) selected stakeholders of private secondary schools in llorin Metropolis. The reliability co-efficient was calculated to be 0.75.The population for this study included all seventy-two (72) proprietors/proprietresses of private secondary schools in llorin metropolis. Purposive sampling technique was used to select all the seven-two (72) proprietors/proprietresses,The data collected for the study was analyzed using mean and standard deviation.The result revealed that zero financial support from government is one of the challenges facing private secondary schools in llorin Metropolis. Finally, the paper gave recommendations on how to enhance standards in privately owned secondary schools in Nigeria. A; Saidu, A.Since emotional intelligence is still not wholly accepted despite evidences of its powerful influence in general setting, this study is conducted to identify emotional intelligence and anxiety, as well as their relationships with academic achievement. It involved a sample of 200 J.S.S 1 and S.S.S 1 students. Process of data collection was administered by using a set of questionnaire which includes a self report measure of emotional intelligence adapted from Schutte Self-Report of Emotional Intelligence (SSRI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). T-test analysis showed that there were no significant differences for the emotional intelligence level within all students between ages 13 and 16. However, there were significant differences for the emotional intelligence level among female students in accordance to age. The results showed that there were significant differences between emotional intelligence level of male and female students. Mean score of emotional intelligence of female students was higher than that of male students. Pearson correlation analysis showed that emotional intelligence levels of all students were significantly negative in relation to anxiety level. Emotional intelligence was also significantly positive in correlation with academic achievement of all variables including student's age and gender. The study revealed that anxiety was also significantly correlated in a negative manner with academic achievement among all students.Item Strategies for improving Students’ low enrolment in Senior Secondary School History in Kwara State.(2020-03-06) Saidu, A.; Ahmed, T. A.History as a subject in Nigerian secondary schools is not only significant for its role as an instrument of nation building rather it instills creative, imaginative and critical thinking skills on the learners. However, as as History is, the enrolment rate is still low in Nigerian secondary schools. Therefore important, this study examined teachers’ perceived strategies for improving students’ low enrolment in Senior Secondary School History in Kwara State. The population consisted of all Senior Secondary School teachers in Kwara State. Descriptive survey research design was employed in the study while 450 teachers were randomly sampled using multistage sampling techniques. A researchers’ self-developed questionnaire was used for data collection while the data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics of mean and rank order to answer research question and inferential statistics of t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings from this study revealed that the perceived strategies for improving students’ low enrolment in Senior Secondary School History in Kwara State, Nigeria are by making History as a core subject for Arts students; making History as a general/optional for all SSS students to have knowledge of the past events of their immediate community and at large among others. There was a statistically significant difference in teachers’ perceived strategies for improving students’ low enrolment in Senior Secondary School History based on teaching qualifications in Kwara State, Nigeria. It was therefore recommended among others that History should be made a core subject for Arts students and a general/optional for other category of students; the use of modern teaching and learning techniques such as inquiry teaching technique, co-operative (e.g. think-pair-share) and competitive teaching technique (game theory), all which are learner-centeredness in History teaching and learning process should be integrated so as to increase the number of students enrolling for HistoryItem Study habits and attitudes of Senior Secondary School Students towards Schooling in Ilorin metropolis(Department of Teacher Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria., 2014-11-18) Jekayinfa, O. O.; Saidu, A.; Okafor, U.This study was carried out to find out the views of senior secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis about their study habits and attitudes towards schooling.The multistage sampling technique as well as simple random method were used to select six hundred respondents across the metropolis. A self designed questionnaire tagged "Study Habits and Attitudes of Senior Secondary School Students' Towards Schooling questionnaire (SHASSTSQ)" was used to gather the required information from the respondents. The instrument has three sections containing items that revealed personal information, study habits and attitudes towards schooling. In the means and rank order of respondents' study habit reading section, I read section by section of my note book before going on ranked highest with a mean score of 3.176. Also, in the means and rank order of respondents attitudes towards schooling it was revealed that item 10 which states that I always have quick answer to the question in all subjects ranked highest, with a mean score of 3.178. The results of the study revealed that problem connected with poor attitudes towards schooling is when student did not have access to school facilities like available classroom, well ventilated library, electricity laboratory equipment, well dedicated teachers etc. Conversely when all these are available, the students would develop positive attitudes towards schooling also, study habits can improve if student can set aside a specific time to study, study everyday, create his/her own study space, have a lot of reading to do to prepare for a test or exam etc. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that the government, parents should provide the necessary and adequate facilities like textbooks, infrastructural facilities, libraries so as to improve the study habits of students and inculcate in them the positive attitudes towards schooling.Item Study habits and attitudes of Senior Secondary School Students towards Schooling in Ilorin metropolis.(African Journal of Historical Sciences in Education, 2014) Jekayinfa, O.J.; Aburime, A. Specifically, the study sought to determine theattitude of teachers towardsmoral development of Basic school pupils based on gender and qualifications. Descriptive design of survey type was adopted in this study. Two hundred and eighty (280) Basic school teachers were selected from 2,796Basic school teachers in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The instrument that was used to gather data in this study was a questionnaire titled “Teachers‟ Attitudes towards Moral Development of Basic School Pupils Questionnaire” (TAMDBSPQ) The results showed that there is no significant difference between male and female teachers‟ attitudes towards moral development of Basic school pupils. Also, it was revealed that there is significant difference in the attitudes of teachers toward moral development of pupils based on qualifications.
