Item Causes of Nagging in Marriage as Expressed by Married Women in Oyo State, Nigeria(Journal of Issues and Practice in Education, 2016-06) Oniye, Abdulrasaq Olayinka; Bolu-Steve, F.N.; Muhammed, Shuaib Abolakale; Soyemi, Oluseyi SundayAbstract: Nagging in marriage is one of the peculiar characteristics that are common among married women and this can results into various problems among couples. from varying factors. This study investigated the causes of nagging in marriage as expressed by married women in Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Proportional and stratified sampling techniques were used to draw a sample of 663 married women who participated in the study. The instrument used to obtain data was a researcher designed questionnaire tagged “Causes of Nagging Questionnaire (CNQ)”. Frequency count and percentage were used to analyze the demographic data of the respondents while all hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that nagging in marriage can be caused by lack of effective communication between couple, inability to tolerate individual differences, financial problem, disagreement on religious matters and unsatisfactory sexual relationship. The hypotheses tested revealed that there is no significant difference in the causes of nagging as expressed by married women on the bases of educational qualification, religion and length of years in marriage. Based on the findings of this study it was recommended that couples irrespective of age, educational qualification and gender should be encouraged to go for counselling before contracting marriage, marriage counsellors should educate their clients on the desirability of acquiring effective communication skills, in order to guard against nagging in their marriage.Item Impact of Counselling Practicum on Trainees in University of Ilorin Nigeria(Anatolian Journal of Education, 2019-10) Muhammed, Shuaib Abolakale; Oniye, Abdulrasaq Olayinka; Alabi, Samson OlamilekanPracticum is an important aspect of the counsellor education programme which is aimed at helping student counsellors develop practical skills and other qualities required for professionalism. The study investigated the impact of counselling practicum on trainees in University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of all student counsellors in the Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin. The simple random sampling technique was used to select 250 respondents selected from both the full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programme. A researcher developed questionnaire tagged “Impact of Counselling Practicum Questionnaire (ICPQ)” was used to gather data from the respondents. The questionnaire was validated by lecturers in Counsellor Education Department University of Ilorin and was also subjected to reliability test using a Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation formula and a reliability coefficient of 0.68 was obtained. The data obtained were analysed with percentages, mean ranking and t-test statistic. The findings revealed that the counselling practicum has high impact on counsellor-trainees. For instance, it assists trainees to; develop self-confidence in relating with clients, learn how to apply counselling skills maximally, and discover their strengths as student counsellors. A significant difference was found on the impact of counselling practicum on trainees based on respondent’s level of education but no significant difference was found on the basis of gender. The implication is that trainees at different level need practicum experience to achieve professional development. Many factors could be responsible for this influence. This study therefore, examined Social media use, age and educational level as determinants towards marital stability among female academic staff in the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. The total numbers of seventy-three female respondents were selected from some faculties at the University of Ilorin using convenience sampling technique with the use of questionnaires to collect information from respondents. The data collected were carefully analyzed using frequency and percentages to represent the raw data in a meaningful manner. It was therefore discovered that social media does not cause an unhealthy relationship within the family. The study also found a significant relationship between marital stability and frequent use of social media. It is recommended that further research be conducted in other organizations, and across gender to further form a general opinion.
