Item Adjustment strategies toward menopause-related problems employed by menopausal women in Kwara state, Nigeria: Implications for counselling(Faculty of Education, University of Port-Harcourt, Nigeria, 2014) Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Oniye, Abdulrasaq O.; Odebode, Aminat Adeola; Ajiboye, Samuel K.Menopause may be marked by a gradual decline in menstruation or in its frequency or it may cease abruptly. The objective of this study was to investigate the adjustment strategies toward menopause-related problems employed by menopausal women in Kwara State, Nigeria. The researchers thus investigated whether or not there was a significant difference in the adjustment strategies to menopause-related problems employed by menopausal women in Kwara State on the bases of religion and job type. Descriptive survey research procedure was adopted for the study. The Multistage sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 466 respondents.The instrument for data collection was the Adjustment Strategies towards Menopause-related Problems Questionnaire (ASMPQ). Research questions were raised while research hypotheses formulated were tested;the data collected were analysed through the use of frequency counts, percentages, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there was no significant difference in the adjustment strategies towards menopause-related problems of menopausal women on the bases of religion and type of job.Item Counselling needs for un-remarried widowers’ in Kwara state, Nigeria(Department of Educational Foundations, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, 2015) Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Oniye, Abdulrasaq O.; Omotara, J. O.Widowers have a lot to battle with because they are usually stigmatized on the grounds of the uncommonness of male widowhood, and this may be a challenge to getting remarried. This study examines the counselling needs for un-remarried widowers’ in Kwara State, Nigeria. The influence of variables such as age and highest educational attainment were also examined. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Multi-stage sampling technique which comprises purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques were adopted to draw a total sample of 200 respondents from Kwara State. “Counselling Needs for Un-remarried Widowers’ Questionnaire (CNUWQ)” was used to collect relevant data. The instrument was subjected to test re-test reliability method. The correlation co-efficient yielded a score of 0.72. Frequency counts and percentage were used to present the demographic data while the hypotheses tested were analyzed using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that the major counselling needs of un-remarried widowers in Kwara State are: how to improve their socio-economic status, deal with stigmatization, isolation, depression and how to maintain positive self-esteem. On the other hand, the hypotheses tested revealed no significant difference in counselling needs for un-remarried widowers in Kwara State based on age and highest educational attainment. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that group counselling should be organized for widowers to provide appropriate solution that could lead them to live a positive life style, marriage counsellors should create an avenue where widowers could meet in order to share their concerns among one another and ways of solving them.Item Factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institutions in Ilorin, Kwara state, Nigeria: Implications for counselling(Department of Educational Foundations, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria, 2015) Oniye, Abdulrasaq O.; Odebode, Aminat Adeola; Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Otaru, B. M.Premarital sex among students of tertiary institution is increasing at an alarming rate in Nigeria, therefore this study sought to find out the factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institution in Ilorin, Kwara state. Variables such as age, religion, gender and type of institutions were considered inrelation to the study. The researchers developed a questionnaire tagged factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institutions (FPSSIIQ) which was used to collect data from the respondents. A two stage sampling technique was used to select 520 respondents that participate in the study. Hypothesis were formulated and tested at 0.05 level significance data collected were analysed using t-tested and analysis variance (ANOVA). The result showed that there was no significant difference on the factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institution in Ilorin, Kwara state on the basis of age, gender, religion, institution, but there is a significant difference in the factors influencing premarital sex among students of tertiary institution in Ilorin, Kwara state on the basis type of institutions. The main objective of this study is to investigate the menopause-related problems of menopausal women in Kwara State, Nigeria. The researchers thus investigated whether or not there was a significant difference in the menopause-related problems of menopausal women in Kwara State on the bases of age and highest educational attainment. The study also examined the influence of variable such as gender and age on motivation for drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions in Kwara State. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study.Simple and stratified (based on gender and age) random sampling techniques were adopted to draw a total of 450 participants for the study from the three senatorial districts of Kwara State. The motivation for drug abuse questionnaire (MDAQ) was used to collect relevant data with a test re-test reliability co-efficient of 0.65. A t-test statisticaltool was used to test the two null hypotheses postulated at 0.05 alpha level while frequency count and percentages were used to compute the demographic data.The study revealed that tertiary institution students are motivated towards drugs in order to conform with peer pressure, to experiment how drug works and to work better. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that peer counselling be organized among the students, counsellors be employed in schools to guide students on the danger in drug use and media advert on drugs be regulated.Item Virginity among youths: Implications for sexual health and marital counselling(Counselling Association of Nigeria, 2015) Adegboyega, Lateef Omotosho; Oniye, Abdulrasaq O.; Abdulkareem, S.Sexual immoralities have become the order of the day. Girls no longer cherish chastity and the dignity of womanhood is gradually fading away. Men have lost control over their emotions. It is obvious that the youths today do not see premarital sex as an immoral act and does not take virginity as dignity and worth cherishing. This definitely implies that they are involved in premarital sexual behaviours with its attendant risky behaviours/ consequences. Thus, this paper dealt with the value of chastity and psychological import of the unmarried remaining chaste till marriage; since marriage is one of the goals of most persons in the society. This paper discussed also the dating behaviour of today’s youth and noted that the dating avenue is the primary predisposing factor for youth’s involvement in premarital sex and associated shortcomings. The effects of premarital sex are spiritual, emotional, physical, and relational in nature. This invariably has lots of implications for sexual health and marital counseling bearing in mind the avalanche of research findings on the impact of premarital sex, risky sexual behaviours and personality maladjustment on an individual total wellbeing
