    Assessment of Premarital Sex, Causes Among Undergraduates of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria

    Undergraduates who engage in pre-marital sex inside and outside the school campuses are on the increase every day. This study investigates assessment of pre-marital sex, and causes among undergraduates the University of Ilorin. The purpose of the study was to assess whether peer group influence, mass media or poverty causes premarital sex among undergraduates in the University of Ilorin. The descriptive research design of survey type was used for the study. The population of the study comprised of all undergraduates reside school halls within the University of Ilorin. A multi-stage sampling technique which comprises of simple, proportionate and convenience sampling procedures were used to select two hundred and thirty (230) respondents out of participants in the ten undergraduates resident in the hostels as participants in the study. Researchers structured questionnaire was used. The reliability of the instrument established through test-retest method. The coefficient obtained was r = 0.83. Inferential statistics of chi-square was used to test the hypotheses developed for the study at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that peer group influence, mass media and poverty are major causes for pre-marital sex (92.83> 21.03, 90.57 > 21.03 and 88.14 >21.03). The researchers concluded that peer group influence, mass media and poverty are major factors responsible for premarital sex among undergraduates in the University of Ilorin. The researchers recommend that the government should improve the economic condition of Nigerian citizens by provision of sufficient funds for education/facilities in all Nigerian secondary and tertiary institutions to reduce the financial problem faced by students in schools due to low financial support from their parents.

    Benefits of Exercise for Improving Health Status of an Individual's Among Undergraduates, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria

    The study assessed the benefits of exercise for improving health status of an individual among undergraduates, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. The purpose of the study was to examine if exercise improves physical and mental health status of an individual among undergraduates, University of Ilorin. Ilorin, Nigeria. A descriptive research design of the survey type was used for the study. The population for the study comprised all undergraduates of University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. A sample of three hundred and eighty (380) respondents was selected using multi-stage sampling procedure. A researcher developed questionnaire validated by three experts and tested for reliability using a split half method was used as instrument for the study. Data was analysed using frequency and percentage for demographic data while un inferential statistic of chi-square (72) was used to test the formulated null hypotheses. Findings revealed that exercise improves physical and mental health status of an individual among undergraduates, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. Findings also revealed that exercise significantly influence physical health status (calculated y² value 60.29> table y value 16.92) and mental health status (calculated value 88.76> table 2 value 16.92) of an individual. It was therefore concluded that exercise improves both physical and mental health status of an individual. The researcher recommended amongst others that students should maintain regular exercise as routine activity which can help to improve healthy muscular strength and flexibility.

    Causes of Drug Abuse as Expressed by Secondary School Students in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria

    Increase in a number of young people abusing drugs has become a subject of public concern worldwide. Therefore, the study investigated the causes of drug abuse as expressed by secondary school students in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The population of the study comprises of all the secondary school students in Moro Local Government Area. The descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for the study. Four hundred and thirty (430) respondents were selected the study with the use of purposive, proportionate and simple random sampling procedures. Researchers' designed questionnaire that had been validated three experts in the related field was used for the study. A test-retest method used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument and the result of 0.72r was obtained. Inferential statistics of chi- square was used to analyze the result of the stated hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result of the findings of this study showed that peer group and poor parental communication had an influence on the causes of drug abuse (428.01 16.92 at 0.05 alpha level of significant. 234.00-16.92) among secondary school students. The researchers concluded that peer group influence and poor parental communication causes drug abuse among secondary school students in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State Nigeria. The researchers' recommended among others that Parents should show love, happiness and also take responsibility for helping secondary students to attain wholesome development into responsible adults.

    Causes of Reproductive Health Diseases among Women of Child-Bearing Age in Ogori-Mogongo Local Government Area of Kogi State

    The study investigated causes of reproductive health diseases among women of child - bearing age in Ogori-magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State. The objectives of the study were to:(i) examine whether underutilization of maternal health care facilities have influence on the causes of reproductive health diseases among women of child-bearing age; (ii). investigate whether unsafe abortion have influence on the causes of reproductive health diseases among women of child-bearing age; and (iii) examine whether poor personal hygiene have influence on the causes of reproductive health diseases among women of child-bearing age. A descriptive research design of survey type was employed for this study. The population for the study comprised all women of child-bearing age in the study area. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to select two hundred respondents that participated in the study. The instrument was a researcher's designed questionnaire that was validated by three experts in the related field. Reliability of the instrument was established through test re-test method and result of 0.76r was obtained, this indicates a strong consistency and good enough for the study. Data were administered with the aid of three trained research assistants and the result of data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics of Chi-square at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The finding of this study shows that: i. Underutilization of maternal health care facilities had influence on causes of reproductive health diseases because calculated chi-square value of (136.9) > crit. chi-square value of (21.03); ii. Unsafe abortion had influence on causes of reproductive health diseases because calculated chi-square value of (171.6)> crit. chi-square value of (21.03); and iii. Poor personal hygiene had influence on causes of reproductive health diseases because calculated chi-square value of (161.0)> crit. chi-square value of (21.03). Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that underutilization of maternal health care facilities, unsafe abortion and poor personal hygiene had significant influence on reproductive health diseases among women of child-bearing age in the study area. Therefore, it out recommended amongst others that, the local government health department should carry out enlightenment campaign that will educate women on benefits of utilizing maternal health care facilities so as to protect them against reproductive health diseases.

    Causes of Under-Nutrition Among Children Under Two Years as Expressed by Nursing Mothers in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria

    The study examined causes of under-nutrition among children under two-years. A descriptive research design of survey type was used for this study. The study population comprised of nursing mothers with children under-two years in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to pick the respondents who participated in the study. Two hundred respondents were sampled for the study Researchers developed a questionnaire validated by four experts in the related field and was used as an instrument for the study. The reliability of the instrument was confirmed through test- retest and a coefficient of 0.75 was obtained. Data collected for the study were analysed using inferential statistics of chi-square at a 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result showed that the economic status of mothers and their cultural practices contributed to the problem of under-nutrition while their educational status has no influence on children's nutrition in the study area. The study concluded that economic and cultural practices of nursing mothers with children under-two years responsible for under-nutrition while their educational level not responsible for under-nutrition. The researcher recommended amongs other that the government at all levels should develop measures that will reduce the price of foods and other household needs to enable mothers purchase nutritionally adequate diet that will protect the family against undernutrition.

    Cigarette Smoking: Health Effects Awareness Among Sandwich Undergraduates, University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria

    Medical experts warns that if the current rate of tobacco use by young people continues, five million of today's children will die of smoking- related illnesses in their later years. This study aimed to assess the level of awareness of lung cancer, heart disease and ulcer disease as an effect of cigarette smoking among sandwich undergraduates, the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The study used a descriptive cross-sectional survey which involved the use of a Multi-stage sampling procedure to select three hundred and eleven sandwich undergraduates across the nine departments of the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin. The result revealed that 66.6% of the respondents had knowledge that lung cancer is an effect of cigarette smoking, while 33.4% do not know 71.1% of the respondents had knowledge that heart disease is an effect of cigarette smoking while 28.9% do not know, 41.8% had the knowledge that ulcer disease is an effect of cigarette smoking while 58.2% of the respondents do not know that ulcer disease can be an effect of cigarette smoking. The research outcome indicated that there is a need to enlighten sandwich undergraduates on the health consequences of cigarette smoking to enable them to desist from the act.

    Factors Influencing Choice of Family Planning Among Women of Childbearing Age in Ilorin East LGA, Kwara State

    The study examined factors influencing the choice of family planning among women of childbearing age in florin East LGA. Kwara State A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A total of 120 respondents formed the sample size for the study Researchers' structured questionnaire which was validated by experts from the related field was used as instrument for the study. The instrument was administered on the respondents and data were analysed using percentages and frequent coms for demographic data while inferential statistics of chi-square was used to analyse the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings from this study revealed that age was a factor influencing the choice of family planning with cale chi-square value of 176.4 and value 21.03 with 12df at 0.05 alpha level; Culture was a factor influencing the choice of family planning with cale chi-square value of 117.86 and table value of 21.03 with 120 and Religion was a factor influencing the choice of family planning among women of childbearing age with cale chi-square value of 96.84 and table value of 21.03 with 12 Based on the findings of this study, the conclusion indicated that age, culture and religion are factors influencing the choice of family planning among women of childbearing age among the population studied. The researchers recommended among others that the health educator should carry out enlightenment campaign through mass media that will educate women of childbearing age on the need to ignore cultural practices that discourage them to use family planning services.

    Factors Influencing Food Choices among Undergraduates at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria

    Food choices of undergraduates have become increasingly unhealthy which put them at risk of malnutrition. This study investigated factors influencing such food choices among undergraduates at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. The population of the study comprised all undergraduates registered for 2018/2019 academic session at the university. The descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for quantitative data and focus group discussion (FGD) was used for qualitative data. Four hundred and seventy-three (473) respondents were selected for the study with the use of simple, proportionate and convenience sampling techniques. Fifteen respondents participated in the focus group discussion (FGD). Researchers' designed questionnaire that had been validated by four experts in the related field was used for the quantitative data. A test-retest method was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument and the result of O. SOr was obtained. Inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to analyse the result of data collected. The three null hypotheses set for the study rejected at 0.05 alpha level of significance. This implies that there was a significant relationship in factors such as biological. economic, social and food choice among undergraduates at the University of Ilorin. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the university authority should organize enlightenment programme to educate students on the value of selecting the right food for consumption to improve students health as well as cognitive capacity.

    Factors Influencing Health-Seeking Behaviour Among People Living with Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Egbeda Local Government Area, Oyo State

    This study investigated factors influencing health-seeking behaviour among people living with STDs in Egbeda Local Government Area. Oyo State. Descriptive research design of the survey type was adopted for this study. The population for the study comprised all residents of Egbeda Local Government Area. Oyo State. Convenient sampling technique was used to select 336 respondents. The questionnaire used was validated by 3 experts from the relevant fields. A reliability co-efficient of r-0.84 was obtained through test re-test method. Data was collected by the researchers and with the help of three trained research assistants. The three postulated hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 alpha level. The study concluded that fear of being discriminated: poverty: quality of health care provided by health care providers could influence health-seeking behaviour among people living with STDs, It was therefore recommended that, members of public should be friendly with those infected with STDs as being discriminated could worsen their condition: affordable health care services should be provided for the people so as to attract more people. Also, health care providers should intensify more effort on the quality of service they provide so as to attract more patronage.

    Factors Responsible for Flooding Among Residents in Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria

    This study investigated factors responsible for flooding among resident in Ilorin East Local Government, Kwara State. The purpose of this study was to determine whether: (i) indiscriminate waste and inadequate drainages are responsible for among resident in Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State. Descriptive research design of the survey type was adopted for the study. Multi-stage sampling techniques consisting of purposive, proportionate and simple random sampling technique were used to select a sample size of four hundred and forty five (445) respondents used for the study. Researcher-designed questionnaire validated by three (3) experts in the related field were used for the data collection. A reliability co-efficient of 0.75r was obtained through split-half method. Data collection was conducted by the researcher and three trained research assistants. Inferential statistics of Chi-square was used to analyse the formulated null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that indiscriminate waste disposal and inadequate drainage system are responsible for flooding (267.52 21.03, 267.52 > 21.03) among resident in Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State. The researchers' concluded that indiscriminate waste disposal and inadequate drainage system were responsible for flooding among resident in the study area. The researchers' recommended amongst others that. Morin East Local Government Authority should provide necessary measures to provide more drainage system within the study area and dredge the existing drainages for easy passage of water and other liquid waste.

    HIV/AIDS Awareness Among Students of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria

    HIV/AIDS has become one of the most devastating disease humanity has ever known. The Study investigated HIV/AIDS awareness among students of Kwara State College of Education Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for the study. Two hundred (200) respondents were selected for the study with the use of purposive and simple random sampling techniques. A validated questionnaire developed by the researcher was used for data collection. Test-retest method was used to establish the reliability of the instrument and the result of 0.75r obtained. Inferential statistics of chi-square was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The results revealed that unsafe sexual intercourse and blood transmission had a significant influence on the causes of HIV/AIDS disease (151.340> 16.92, 221.40 > 16.92) among College of Education Students in Kwara State. The researcher concluded that unsafe sexual intercourse and blood transmission causes HIV/AIDS among Kwara State College of Education students. The researcher recommended that the school authority should organize enlightenment campaign programme for the students to educate them on the danger inherent in premarital or unsafe casual sex so as to protect themselves against sexually transmitted infection (STI) including HIV which has no cure yet.

    Implication of Photo-Series Instructional Packages on Personal Hygiene Among Junior Secondary School Students in Offa Local Government Area, Kwara State

    The study assesses the implication of photo-series instructional packages on personal hygiene among junior secondary school students in Offa Local Government Area, Kwara State. The study carried out due mass failure in health education aspect of physical and health education subject in Junior secondary school examination and poor attitude of students towards personal hygiene is becoming alarming which makes it difficult striving for teachers to solve through different approaches. Therefore, photo-series instructional packages stand in the position to fill the gap. The gender influence was also examined. Sample comprised of 71 students from two secondary schools assigned to the experimental and control groups. Quasi-experimental design of post-test design was employed for the study. The experimental group was taught with photo- series instructional packages (PIP) and the control group was taught using conventional method Researcher's designed Personal Hygiene Achievement Test (PHAT) was used for the study. The formulated hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance with ANCOVA analysis. Finding favoured the photo-series group indicated significant differences in the performance of students and also on gender there was no significant difference. It was recommended among others that, Physical and health education teachers should endeavour to use photo-series instructional package in their lessons especially in teaching personal hygiene and all related topics in health education.

    Influence of Learning Disabilities on Academic Activity of Students Attending Kwara State school for Special Needs

    Learning disability is a dysfunction in one or many basic psychological process which includes the understanding of language and its application. This study investigated the influence of learning disabilities on academic activity of students' attending Kwara State School for special needs. The purpose of the study was to examine (i) Impulsive and (ii) Hyperlexia have influence on the academic activity of students with learning disability attending Kwara State School for Special needs. A descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of all students with learning disability in Kwara State School for Handicap. the Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select one hundred and twenty-two respondents participated in the study. A researcher-structured questionnaire that has been validated by three experts in the department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, University of Ilorin was used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument established through test-retest method and result of 0.82 obtained through Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The two postulated null hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of chi-square @0.05 alpha level. The finding of the study revealed that, impulsivity is an influence of learning disabilities on academic performance of students because the calc. value of 42.46 is greater than the tab. Value of 16.92 @ 0.05 alpha level of significance at the degree of freedom of 9, hyperlexia is an influence of learning disabilities on academic performance of students because the calc. value of 54.72 is greater than the tab. value of 16.92 @ 0.05 alpha level at the degree of freedom of 9. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that hyperlexia and impulsivity have influence of learning disabilities on academic performance of students attending Kwara State School for special needs. Therefore, the teacher should use appropriate teaching method that will make students with hyperlexia condition easily understand the knowledge impact to them.

    Knowledge and Practice of Antenatal Care Services Among Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria

    Lack of knowledge and poor practice of Antenatal care services led Pregnant Women towards registering with untrained birth attendance which resulted to several complications such as Virginal bleeding, Placenta previa and death of the Mother and the Baby. This study was carried out to investigate knowledge and practice of Antenatal care services among Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. A descriptive research design of the survey type was employed for this study. The population of the study comprised of all Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. Multi-stage sampling technique of simple random sampling technique, proportionate sampling technique and accidental sampling techniques were used to select 495 respondents for this study. A researchers-developed questionnaire validated by three experts in the field of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education was used for the study. A reliability coefficient (r) of 0.76 was obtained through split half method using Cronbach alpha. The data collected were analyzed using the inferential statistics of ANOVA to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings from the study reveal that, there is a significant difference of (M-10.00, SD-1.0) in the knowledge of antenatal care services among Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, there is a significant difference of (M-38.7, SD = 3.5) in the practice of antenatal care services among pregnant women in Ilorin south Local Government Area of Kwara State. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that Pregnant Women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State have differences in knowledge and practice of Antenatal care services based on their educational and economic status. Therefore, the researchers recommended among others that the Health Educators should carry out enlightenment campaign programme for couples through Mass Media on the value of Antenatal care services during Pregnancy to promote the health of Pregnant Women as well as that of their Fetus.

    Knowledge of the Predisposing Factors of Ascariasis Disease among Primary Teacher in Kwara State

    Ascariasis (roundworm) is an important health issue that is affecting people mostly in less developed countries which It has been associated with causing stunting growth, body weakness, nutritional disturbances, morbidity, mortality and low educational achievement among school children and even in adults The objectives of the study were to investigate whether poor knowledge of personal hygiene and food hygiene were predisposing factors of ascariasis among public primary school teachers in Kwara State. The study adopted a descriptive research design of the survey type. The population of the study comprised of all the public primary school teachers in Kwara State (11.963) Multistage sampling techniques of cluster. proportionate, purposive proportionate, and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 470 public primary schools teachers in Kwara state as a sample for the study. The Research instrument adopted for the study was researchers structured questionnaire which had been validated by three experts in the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education. University of Ilorin to ensure both face and content validity. Reliability of the instrument used for the study was established through a split-half method. Twenty (20) copies of the questionnaire administered on twenty public primary school teachers outside the study area and their responses analysed using Cronbach alpha. The correlation coefficient of 0.71r was obtained. The result of the reliability indicated that the instrument was reliable. The result of data collected analysed using frequency counts and percentages. The finding of the study revealed that primary school teachers in the study area know that poor personal hygiene and poor food hygiene are a predisposing factor for ascariasis. It was recommended that the Kwara State Universal Basic Education (KWSUBE) should carry out an educative programme that will enlight both primary school pupils and teachers on the need for them to always wash their hands with soap and water after visit toilet and before handling or eating food to protect them against ascariasis

    Oil Spillage as one of the Contributory Factors for Health Problems among Residents of Awoye Community, Ondo State.

    Oil spills have posed a major threat to the environment of the oil producing areas, which if not effectively checked can lead to the total destruction of ecosystems. The study investigated oil spillage as a contributory factor for health problems among residents of Awoye Community: Ondo State The objectives of the study investigate whether oil spillage contribute to the incidence of (1) Asthma (ii) Gastrointestinal disease, (iii) Skin disease among residents of Awoye community Ondo State, Nigeria A descriptive research design of survey type was employed for the study. The population of the study comprised residents of Awoye community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State Multistage sampling techniques of stratified, purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 365 respondents that participated in the study. A researchers' designed structured questionnaire validated by three experts in the related field was used for the study A reliability co-efficient (r) of 0.85 was obtained through test re-test method. Data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics of chi-square to test the result of stated hypotheses at 0, 05 level of significance. The findings revealed ling that Oil spillage was a contributory factor for the incidence of Asthma among residents of Awoye to th community. Ondo State (calculated chi-square value of 20.32> critical value of 16.92 at df=9); Oil spillage was a contributory factor for the incidence of Gastrointestinal disease among residence of Awoye community Ondo State (calculated chi-square value of 18.45> critical value of 16.92 at df - 10.7 9); and Oil spillage was a contributory factor for the incidence of Skin disease among residents of Awoye community: Ondo State. (calculated chi-square value of 20.02> critical value of 16.92 at df-9). Based on findings of the study, it was concluded that oil spillage was a contributory factor for the ND incidence of asthma, gastrointestinal disease and skin disease among residents of Awoye community Ondo State. The researchers' recommend among others that the Ondo State government should relocate the community closer to oil pipe line to another save area so as to protect them against asthma disease which may occur due to oil spillage.

    Patient Education: The Role of Nurses within the Healthcare Delivery System

    Information is power and as such, it is necessary to educate patients on the nature of their ailments, outcomes, benefits and risks of procedures, to involve them in decision making process and enable them to achieve fully informed consent. Patients have become more conscious consumers of healthcare, they expect to be given more information and many express a desire to participate in medical decision making. Patient education is a core component of nurses' training however, the skills are perfected over the years in the course of practice. Nurses therefore, need to appreciate the significance of patients' education and as such, make it an important aspect of nursing care in their day to day activities. It was recommended that; Patient education should be considered as a crucial aspect of healthcare and should be routinely carried out in all healthcare services, healthcare providers should use common or local language to impart health knowledge to patients so as to enable the understand the health information passed to them and this will encourage them to ask questions on areas not clear to them.

    Perceived Potency of Herbal Medicines for Treatment of Illnesses among Residents of Odo-otin Local Government Area, Osun State, Nigeria

    herbal medicine is the use of herbs or medicinal plants properties for the prevention and treatment of illnesses.' It takes the form of concoction, decoction and infusion. The researchers observed common usage of herbal medicines among residents of Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Osun State, Nigeria and there was a claimed of efficacy of these herbs despite not fully integrated in healthcare. The purpose of study therefore, was to investigate the perceived potency of; (i) candle bush flower (senna alata) and boundary tree leave (newboldia leavis) for the treatment of pile and diarrhea. A descriptive research design of the survey type was employed for this study. The population of the study comprised all herbal medicine users in Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Osun State, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling procedure which consists of purposive and snowball sampling techniques used to select 384respondents for the study. A researchers developed questionnaire validated by three experts in the Department of Health Promotion and and Environmental Health Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria was used for the study and tested for reliability using a split-half method. A reliability coefficient of 0.75 was obtained using obtained using the Spearman Brown Prophesy Formula. Relevant data collected by the researchers and three trained research assistants. Inferential statistics of Chi-square was used to test the hypotheses formulated for the study at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that, the use of candle bush flower was perceived as significantly potent for the treatment of pile because the calculated value of (25.21) greater than the table value of (21.03) at 12 degree of freedom, the use of boundary tree leaves was perceived as significantly potent for the treatment of diarrhea because the calculated value of (28.33) greater than the table value of (21.03) at b12 degree of freedom. The study concluded that candle bush flower and boundary tree leave are potency for the treatment of pile and diarrhea. Therefore, it was recommended that candle busy flower and boundary tree leave should be further subjected to NAFDAC test and if found effective, should be considered for the treatment of pile and diarrhea.

    Predictors of Utilization of Immunization Programme Among Nursing Mothers in Ogbomosho South Local Government Area of Oyo State

    Immunization has brought sound health to many children in the world, reduced the agony experienced by parents during child rearing and reduced the mortality rate among children This study examined the predictors of the utilization of immunization programmes among nursing mothers in Ogbomosho South LGA, Oyo State. The purpose of this study was to examine accessibility to health centres, cultural belief were predictor of utilization of immunization programmes among nursing mothers in Ogbomosho South LGA. Oyo State Descriptive research design of survey type was adopted for the study. The population comprised of all nursing mothers in Ogbomosho South LGA, Oyo State. Four hundred respondents were selected for the study. A validated researcher developed questionnaire tested for reliability was used for the study. The data collected analyzed using descriptive statistics of chi-square to test the formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results indicated that accessibility to health centres and cultural believe were predictor of utilization of immunization programme in the study area (Cal, chi-square value> chi-square Table value) at 0.05 alpha level. The study concluded that accessibility to health centres and cultural belief are predictors of the utilization of immunization programmes among nursing mothers in Ogbomosho South LGA, Oyo State. It was therefore recommended that Federal, State and Local Government authority should make proper planning in relation to the distance of health care centers to residential area in order to encourage and motivate nursing mothers in using their service.

    Risk Factors for Diabetes Disease as Perceived by Undergraduates in University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria

    The study examined risk factors for diabetes disease as perceived by undergraduates in University of Ilorin. The purpose of the study investigated whether: (i) genetic: (ii) obesity; and (iii) physical inactivity were risk factor of diabetes disease. descriptive research design of survey type was employed for the study. The population of the study comprised all undergraduates in University of Ilorin. A Multiple-stage sampling techniques comprising simple random sampling, proportionate sampling and accidental sampling techniques were used to select 394 respondents that participated in the study. Researcher developed questionnaire validated by 3 experts from relevant field was used as an instrument for the study reliability of the instrument ascertained through test re-test method while its reliability was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC), correlation coefficient of 0.77r was obtained. inferential statistic of Chi-square used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that genetic and physical inactivity were risk factors of diabetes disease (316.07 >16.92, 48.18> 16.92), obesity was not a significant risk factor of diabetes disease as perceived by undergraduates in University of Ilorin (14.15 <16.92). The researcher concluded that genetics and physical inactivity were risk factor of diabetes while obesity was not a risk factor of diabetes as perceived by undergraduates in university of Ilorin. The researchers recommended among others that health educators should enlighten students on the advantages of regular medical check-up in the hospital as one of the important measure to assist family with a member that experiences diabetes disease. Student should also be educated on risk factors for diabetes as empirically confirmed.
