O.; Olatunji AbdulganiyuTourism is an aged- long activity in human social living, the need to engage in tourist activities that is born out of the nature of human being, to explore the world beyond their immediate environment. More recent than ever, tourism activities have increased globally due to the emergence of globalization and the ever increasing zeal of the people to engage in leisure activities. The increase in tourist activities globally has made many governments all over the world to put vested interest in the development of the sector due to their discovery that development of tourism could be used as an effective tool to revitalize their economies. Through entrepreneurial investment in tourism, some countries with enormous tourism potentials has been able to develop their tourism sector successfully while many others especially in the developing countries like Nigeria has not been doing well in this regard. Despite the availability of enormous tourism products in Nigeria, the country is yet to develop most of its tourism products to meet modern international standard. This article argued that lack of appropriate entrepreneurial mindset suitable enough to promote tourism entrepreneurship of both the government and the people could be held responsible for such a situation. In this regard, the paper recommended that promoting entrepreneurial investment in tourism (tourism entrepreneurship) could be used as veritable tool to rejuvenate the moribund economic situation of the country and could also be used to change the status of the country from a developing to a sustainable developed nation.Item Corruption and Nigeria's Development(DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY, UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN, ILORIN. This is so because of its role in the provision of employment opportunities for the people in the society. In spite of this important role of the small scale entrepreneurs, it has been observed that in Nigeria, these entrepreneurs have received very little academic and governmental attention and the resultant effects of such neglect is reflected in the low level of economic activities and higher level of youth un-employment in the society. In an attempt to draw attention to this important sector of the country's economy, this paper seeks to look into the knowledge and practice of human capital management among small scale entrepreneurs using entrepreneurs in the Central Business District of Ilorin as its case study. Self-administered questionnaires and interviews were used as instruments of data collection and frequency distribution presented in percentage was used for data analysis. The results indicate that entrepreneurs in the study area have no knowledge of the importance of human capital management and most of them do not see any necessity for practicing it. Upon this discovery, the paper recommends that there is the need to educate small scale entrepreneurs on the importance of applying human capital management principles in running their business so that their employees work behaviour would be improved upon to effect the development of their business and the society at large.Item Towards the Sociology Entrepreneurship: Exploring Some Relevant Approaches(AL-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, 2014) Olatunji Abdulganiyu; Issah Moshood; Joseph A OluyemiEntrepreneurship has been one of the fundamental human activities from time immemorial; the age-long practice of entrepreneurial activities in human societies is evident in ancient history of Jews, Arabs, English and African societies. Due to the importance of entrepreneurial activities in human's life, different scholars in several social sciences and managerial disciplines have looked into the subject from their own disciplinary point of view. Most of these disciplines have only seen the concept from their own immediate academic background with little or no emphasis on the socio-cultural milieu in which entrepreneurship takes place. In an attempt to fill this gap, this paper, exploring various approaches, intends to bring out the importance of socio-cultural factors in entrepreneurship activities. It is observed through different approaches examined in the paper that sociological factors have significant influence on entrepreneurship activities generally. The paper concludes on the premise that sociological factors are important variables to be considered in entrepreneurial studies and in the formulation and implementation of entrepreneurial policies in Nigeria.
