The effect of these development programmes on the people will be examinedItem The Clogs on Women Participation in Community Development Programmes in Ilorin Metropolis, Nigeria: Implications on Sustainable Development.(Ife Centre for Psychological Studies, Ile-Ife & The Network of Psychological Studies of Women Issues, Department of Psychology, University of Ibadan., 2018-12-05) Okoji, O.O; Ayuba, O.TAbstract Women participation in community development is an important element and a sure way to enhance development of the communities in Nigeria. However, women participation is hindered by the factors identified in the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, the research questionnaire titled Women Participation in Community Development Inventory (WPCDI) was used. Simple random sampling technique was used to select one hundred women participants from florin west local government while one hundred women participants were randomly selected also from florin south local government. The test retest method of assessing the reliability of the data was used at a reliability coefficient of 0.87. There is no significant difference in the factors affecting women participation in community development projects in Ilorin west and south local government areas based on marital status (t(198) = 1.221, p>0.05), there is no significant difference in factors affecting women participation in community development based on religion (F {3, 196) = 1.626, p>0.05), there is no significant difference in the factors affecting women participation in community development projects in florin west and south local government areas based on 'occupation (F {2, 197) = 1.818, p>0.05). It is therefore recommended that there should be proper societal orientation on the role women should play in development of their communities. Thus, they should not only be involved in domestic affairs of their homes but they should be encouraged in the proper execution and implementation of community development projects.Item Effect of Socio-Economic Status of Parents on Educational Attainment of Female Secondary School Students in Rivers State of Nigeria(Ife Centre for Psychological Studies & The Network of Psychological Studies of Women Issues Department of Psychology, University of Ibadan., 2013-06-07) Okoji, O.OInvestigations into the factors that influence academic performance of female students in secondary schools have attracted the interest and concern it of teachers, counselors, psychologists, researchers and school administrators in Nigeria. Different factors are capable of influencing the academic performance of female students, such factors range from family background, socio-economic status of the parents and other environment factors like; availability of suitable learning environment, adequacy of educational infrastructure like textbooks and well-equipped laboratories. The study adopted ex-post facto research design, the sample for the study comprised of 95 participants. The instrument used to gather primary information was tagged Students Academic Achievement Scale (SAAS) r=0.78. Significant effect of financial status of parents was found on academic achievement of female secondary students (X2cal < x 2 tab = 26.681 < 12.59). There is significant effect of educational status of parents on educational achievement of female children (X2 cal < x2 tab 21.17 < 12.59). The following recommendations were proffered for the parents, government and other stakeholders in educational sector in Nigeria; Parents should imbibe learning-enriching and achievement-sustaining behaviors to be able to help their female children acquire as much learning as their male counterparts. There is the need for federal and state governments to make education free from primary school to tertiary institutions. This will give female children from less privilege homes the opportunity to acquire basic primary education to university level.Item ) Human Capacity Development of Young Adults’ as a Correlate of Socio-economic Areas Transformation Agenda of Millennium Development Goals in Oyo State.(Published by Faculty of Education, Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State., 2018-06-17) Okoji, O.OThe major problem being experienced in Oyo state is the conflict among the youth who belong to different cult groups, the problem is prevalent because of the unemployment problem and other poverty related problems. The study adopted descriptive survey research design ol ex- post lacto. The sample size comprised of 160 young adults who were Solected through simple random ampling technique from lbadan-North and Ibadan-South Local Government Arcas ol Oyo State. The instrument used for the study was tagged Human Capacity Development Inventory (HCDI) with reliability r = 0.87., Two hypotheses were tested at 5%% level of significance. The data colected was collated and analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Findings shows that there was no significant relationship between human capacity development and poverty alleviation programmes of Millennium Development Goals (MDG) among young adults (r = - 014, N = 160. P .05). There was no slgnificant relationship batwacn human capacity development and educational empowerment of young adult (r = -04, N 160, P = .608). Based on the findings. it was recommended that for Nigeria to meet the human capacity development challenges through the Millennium Development Goals transformation programmes. the gaps and flaws of the cducation system need to be urgently addressedItem Impact of Socialization Agents on Behavioural Modification of Female Basic School Pupils in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, 2019-06-01) Okoji, O.O; Abdulazeez, F.ASocialization as a continuous process that begins from birth to death, is a conglomeration of agents with similar norms, values and social relations within which a child’s behaviour is shaped. This study therefore examined the impact of socialization agents on behavioural modification of female basic school pupils in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria. This study was a descriptive survey type. The population for this study comprised of all female basic school pupils in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria. One hundred and ninety-three female pupils were sampled using a stratified sampling technique. Researchers’ designed questionnaire structured in a two-response-type with the reliability coefficient 0.78 was used for data collection while the data collected were analysed using descriptive statistic of percentage and inferential statistics of chi-square at 0.05 alpha level. Findings from this study revealed that family, school peer group and mass media had significant impact in female pupils’ behavioural modifications in Ilorin Metropolis, Nigeria. It was therefore recommended among others that parents and school teachers should establish cordial relationship with their wards and ensure that their female wards keep good company with peers.Item Influence of Adult Literacy Education on Socio-Economic Empowerment of Rural Women in Oyo State, Nigeria(: Ife Centre for Psychological Studies & The Network of Psychological Studies of Women Issues Department of Psychology, University of Ibadan ., 2014-06-14) Okoji, O.O; Okoji, Ladeji, O.O O.On all countries of the world, education is recognised as the cornerstone for sustainabledevelopment particularly for those who have been excluded from formal system of educationand development. The building of a literate society will lead to the economic empowermentand will encourage rural women to practice hygiene, which will in turn lead to the reductionof birth and death rates. A descriptive survey research design was adopted usingquestionnaire as the main instrument. Some 203 respondents which comprised eight literacyfacilitators and 195 rural women participated in the literacy programme. Data collectedwere analysed using mean, standard deviation and correlation coefficient, used to test thehypothesis at 0.05 level of significant. The findings indicated that significant relationshipexisted between adult literacy education and women participation in politics r = 0.148, Df =201, P < 0.05. The result revealed that significant relationship existed between adult literacyeducation and healthy living of rural women, r = 0.052, Df = 201, P < 0.05.The studyrecommended that government at all levels should fund literacy programmes, make itinteresting for women to be encouraged to enrol in literacy classes.Item Influence of Leadership Styles on Community Development Projects in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria.(Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt, 2019-12-26) Okoji, O.O; Sulaimon, M.OMany communities have been developed through their local leaders who did not only act as pioneers of projects but also helped in influencing and motivating their people to action. For any community development projects to be successful, influential local leaders must be involved else they might undermine the progress of such projects. The research design adopted for this study was descriptive survey method. The instrument used for the study was tagged Leadership Style and Community Development Questionnaire (LSCQ) with the reliability value of 0.82, while the data collected were analysed with mean, standard deviation and multiple regression. The population of the study comprised of the residents of Ilorin metropolis while 300 participants were selected using simple random sampling technique. Therefore, the combination of the different leadership styles (independent variables) significantly predicted community development (dependent variable) (F(3, 296) = 8.009, p<0.05). Thus, there was significant influence of Leadership Styles (Democratic, Laissez-faire and Autocratic) on the community development. Thus, it was recommended that community leaders should always be diplomatic and they should adopt appropriate leadership styles that are prone to bringing about successful development within the community.Item Influence of Socio-economic Factors on Youth Participation in Community Development Projects in Kwara State, Nigeria.(Nigerian National Council of Adult Education, 2018-09-20) Okoji, O.OCommunity participation illustrates the role played by communities and stakeholders in the policy making and implementation processes of a municipality. This study, which sought to investigate community participation in the context of youth involvement adopted descriptive survey, research design of ex-post facto in order to examine the influence of education and economic variables on youth participation. The researcher adopted simple random sampling to select 238 youths from Kwara North and Kwara Central senatorial districts in Kwara State, Nigeria. The instrument used for the study was Youth Participation Community Development Assessment Scale ( YPCCAS r = 0.74). The findings indicated that signcant relationship existed between economic variables and youth participation in community development r = 0.023, N= 238, P> 0.72. The result revealed' that significant relationship existed between education and youth participation in community development, r = 0.486, N= 238, P<0.00: Thus, it was recommended that youth participation in community development can be enhanced if the level of education of the participants is improved and they are aware of the benefits of such projects to their communities. With higher levels of education the youth will be encouraged and enlightened on the reasons why they should contribute to the success of the community development projects in their communities.Item Influence of Widowhood Practice on Psycho-economic Welfare of the Widows in Rural Communities of Imo State Nigeria(Department of Social Work, University of Ibadan., 2013-11-12) Okoji, O.OThe travails of widows in Imo State include a long period of incarceration during mourning, an obligatory poor standard of hygiene, deprivation of the husbands' property and maltreatment by his relatives, enforcement of persistent wailing and sitting beside the husbands' corpses. These directly have negative psychological, financial, sexual and social impacts on widows. This article examines how the widows could be helped by family members and government to ameliorate these problems. The researcher adopts simple random sampling technique to select 200 widows from Isiala-Mbano and Ehime-Mbano local governments. The instrument used for the study was tagged Widowhood Practice Assessment Scale (WPAS) r = 0.85. Two research questions were raised for the study. The data collected were collated and analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The result shows that widowhood practice has a significant influence on poverty among the widows(r=.574 , N=200, P<.01). There is positive influence of widowhood practice on psychological well-being of widows (r=.469**, N=200, P<.01). However, based on the findings, it was recommended that Nigerian lawmakers should legislate against all oppressive, injurious and degrading widowhood practices.Item Intervention of Federal Government Towards Poverty Alleviation in Rural Communities of Nigeria: Issues and Perspective(Department of Adult Education, University of Ibadan, Oyo State., 2008-06-09) Okoji, O.OIn Nigeria, the problem of poverty has, for a fairly long time been a cause for concern to the various tiers of government. .Thus many programmes had been put in place especially by the Federal Government. The paper was rounded off with suggestions on how poverty alleviation programmes can be effectively planned and efficiently implementedItem Micro Credit Scheme as Correlate of Poverty Alleviation Among Traders in Ibadan Metropolitan City, Oyo State, Nigeria(Community Development Association of Nigeria, 2014-06-13) Abiona, K; Okoji, O.OThe incidence and magnitude of poverty in Nigeria has been on the increase and this has given rise to micro-credit, which has been in existence for a very long time now. The traders in Ibadan metropolitan embraced microcredit scheme to solve the problems of access to funding their business and alleviation of poverty. This study examines the influence of micro credit scheme on poverty alleviation among traders in Ibadan metropolitan city. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 300 participants who were used for the study. Two major instruments were used in the study; these were Microcredit Poverty Alleviation Inventory (MPAI) and Microcredit Beneficiaries Assessment Scale (MBAS). The finding shows that there was a significant relationship between microcredit scheme and poverty alleviation among the traders (r = .538*, N= 300, P < .01). The finding further shows that there was significant relationship between .microcredit scheme and increasing assets of small scale business enterprises (r = .892**, 41V= 300, P < .01). The study has affirmed that while micro-credit has tremendous potentials as an instrument for poverty alleviation. It is recommended that complementary efforts such as literacy promotion and training should be given to those who lack the skills to enable them make good use of the credit for economic activities.Item Oil Exploration in Niger Delta: Consequences on the Host Communities(Lead City University, Oyo State, Nigeria, 2018-07-11) Okoji, O.OOil exploration activities commenced in the Deltaic region of Nigeria in the early 1900s by a German entity referred to as the "Nigeria Bitumen Corporation" which started her exploratory activities in the Araromi area of the then Western Nigeria but their activities were truncated by the outbreak of the World War I in 1914 (NNPC: 2005; 1-2). Oil exploration activities thereafter started with the Shell D'Arcy (the forerunner of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC of Nigeria) in 1937 when Shell was awarded the sole concessionary rights covering the whole territory of Nigeria. Their activities were also interrupted by the World War II but they resumed in 1947 and with concerted efforts, after several years and investment of over N30 million, the first commercial oil well was discovered in 1956 at Oloibiri in present Ogbia Local Government of Bayelsa State in the Niger Delta region. This discovery opened up the oil industry in 1961 in Nigeria, bringing more oil firms like the Agip, Mobil, Safrap (now Elf), Texaco and Cheveron to petroleum prospecting both in on shore/offshore areas of Nigeria (Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC; 2005: I -2). From then, "oil production rose from initial figures of 5,100 barrel per day (bpd) from the first well in Oloibiri to today's production of over 25 million bpd, even though Nigeria's OPEC quota specification is based on 2.15million bpd" (Okaba, 2008:8).Item Relationship between School Principals' Leadership Styles and Teachers' Job Performance in Ondo State, Nigeria.(Ife Centre for Psychological Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife Osun State & University of Cape Coast, Ghana., 2015-11-03) Okoji, O.OAbstract Leadership style in an organization is one of the factors that play significant role in enhancing or retarding the interest and commitment of the individuals in the organization. The population of the study comprised of 300 respondents who were selected through simple random sampling technique from Ondo south senatorial district, this comprised of 250 teachers and 50 school principals and their vice. Principals' Leadership Assessment Inventory was administered to the school principals and their vice with the reliability (PLAI, r= 0.72) and Teachers' Job Performance Assessment Scale was administered to the teachers with reliability (TJPAS r = 0.86) . Two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data collected were analyzed with correlation statistical analysis. The result shows that there was significant relationship between democratic leadership style and teachers' job performance (r =.118,N= 300, p<.05 . Significant relationship also existed between autocratic leadership style and teachers' job performance (r =-314,N = 300, P<.01). It is the existence of conditions within which people in a society can go about their normal daily activities without threats to their lives or properties. When a nation provides adequate security for her citizens and properties and maintains good national image, it helps to ensure a peaceful atmosphere, v environment and encourages foreign interest that can make things happen in that nation. The co which result in insecurity were traced to the colonialists creating antagonistic ruling class along and religious line. The various ways the mass media could be effectively adopted in corn insecurity require commitment on the part of media officials, both the public and mass media w should play complimentary roles as partners in this regard. In the absence of any real through security, expenditures on security can be reduced significantly, allowing national and governments to channel more resources to other public goods to improve the quality of life o people. Thus, for peace to be promoted in Nigeria through the mass media, it is imperative Government should accelerate the pace of development through the provision of basic infrastructure facilities, gainful employment, free education at all levels and provision of medical care for the in rural and urban communities.
