OFFICE AUTOMATION AND ITS IMPACT ON SECRETARIAL ROLES
(FACULTY OF EDUCATION AL- HIKMAH UNIVERSITY, ILORIN, 2017-06-01) Ogungboyega, Suliyat A.
The sporadic technological changes in the 21st century has affected all the facets of life including office environments. The old-time known office equipment are becoming obsolete which call for new orientation and poses challenges to secretarial staff. This could be further buttressed in the way the name metamophorsized from Secretarial Education to Office Technology and Management (OTM) and the title from the word secretary to a more appropriate professional titles like executive secretary or management assistant. This paper, therefore, examines the new roles of Secretary as compared to its age-long functions. Efforts were made at describing office automation, secretary and her modern roles. It was concluded that, secretaries who refuse to dance to the tune of technology in discharging their duties will be considered obsolete, unfit, irrelevant, rejected and unappointable. It was therefore recommended that both private and public offices should endeavour to procure technological invented machines and equipment while secretaries should be engaged in training and retraining seminars to be able to compete favourably with colleagues in developed countries of the world

THE PERCEPTIONS OF EMPLOYERS TOWARDS EMPLOYABILITY OF BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATE IN NIGERIA
(ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS EDUCATORS OF NIGERIA, 2019-10-05) Ogungboyega, Suliyat A.
Students’ interest is more likely to be maintained if they can see the relevance of their studies to their future careers. Life beyond University/College inspired this study to investigate the employers' perceptions towards the employability of business education graduates in Nigeria. The research design was survey, based on the study's objectives. Two research questions guided this study. Questionnaire was used constructed to collect the data and descriptive research was used to provide careful descriptions of a phenomenon to generate an accurate description of an event. The internal consistency reliability for the instrument using Cronbach's Coefficient Alpha will estimate to be α = 0.94.Therefore, descriptive and inferential statistics were used to organize, analyze and interpret the data. The result shows that educators and employers believed that the government's especially Ministry of Education, had not allocated adequate funds to upgrade and expand business education programs. Also, inadequate facilities and resources inhibited efforts to maintain high quality standards for business education programs. The study recommends that the government should seek employers and private sector involvement in financing business education programs. To improve vocational education, emphasis should be laid on establishing and maintaining quality standards like entry requirement, teachers certification, accreditation and standardized assessment for business education programs.

POVERTY ALLEVIATION THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
(ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS EDUCATORS OF NIGERIA (ABEL) DELTA STATE CHAPTER, 2019-05-10) Ogungboyega, Suliyat A.; Kayode, Ajayi E.O.A.; MUYIWA, ADEYEMI
Poverty alleviation is any process which seeks to reduce the level of poverty in a country or among a group of people or countries. Therefore, this study employed the use of qualitative methods where structured questionnaire was administered to all entrepreneurship educators in the federal and state owned tertiary institutions in Oyo town, Oyo State, Nigeria. Thirty nine copies of the questionnaires were distributed to available entrepreneurship educators but thirty six copies were correctly filled and returned giving about 91.3 percent. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while paired t-test was used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Any item with mean rating of 0.01 and above were regarded as agreed while any item with mean rating below 0.01 was regarded as rejected. Based on the findings of this study, it is obvious that Entrepreneurship education programs in tertiary institutions could be used as a veritable tool for training students who can create varying jobs after graduation. The results show that refocusing entrepreneurship education programs for practical skills acquisition can contribute to establishing and managing businesses. It was recommended that students should be encouraged to be eager to acquire all the skills available to them in entrepreneurship education departments, and, government at all levels should be adequately funding entrepreneurship education programs for effective program delivery and sustainable economic development of the nation.
