Item Cohabitation as Predictor of Sexual Dysfunction among Married Students of a University in Nigeria(School of Technology Education, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, 2019-12) Mustapha, Mulikat Ladi Abdulqadir; ONIYE, Abdulrazaq Olayinka; MUHAMMED, Shuaib AbolakalePrevious studies revealed that persons involved in premarital cohabitation faced challenges in particular areas connecting to their present bonds more than married couples. Inquiries have established causes of sexual dysfunction to include anxiety over affection, relationship tensions and improbable sexual functioning expectations. Thus, considerable explanations abound to presume connection between premarital cohabitation and marital sexual dysfunction which little studies have explored. To determine whether premarital cohabitation predicts sexual dysfunction in later marriage. It also assessed the moderating effect of age, gender and duration of premarital cohabitation on the variables of interest. Data were gathered from two hundred married students (age 21 to 40 years and above) through descriptive survey method using premarital cohabitation and sexual dysfunction scale following a multi- stage procedure. Linear and multiple regressions were employed for analysis. Premarital cohabitation significantly predicts sexual dysfunction in later bonds (F-value of 13.39 significant at 0.00) in 67% of cases (R-square 0.67, beta weight of 0.26 sig at 0.00). The moderating variables predicted sexual dysfunction in later bonds with duration of premarital cohabitation contributing more. Premarital cohabitation strongly predicts sexual dysfunction in later bonds. Counsellors should enlighten youths on negative effects of premarital cohabitation on sexual dysfunction and design strategies to assist victims.Item Demographic Variables as Correlate of Marital Satisfaction of Teachers in Kwara State, Nigeria(Solusi University Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, 2017-06) ONIYE, Abdulrazaq Olayinka; MUSTAPHA, Mulikat Ladi A; Ajiboye, Samuel Kolawole; Alade, E. EThis study investigated the relative influence of demographic variables (gender, age, highest educational qualification, religion and length of marriage) on marital satisfaction of married teachers in Kwara State. Correlational research design was adopted for the study using multi-stage sampling technique to select 670 married teachers from the three Senatorial Districts of Kwara State. A Questionnaire titled “Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ)” was used to collect the data. One null hypothesis generated was tested at 0.05level of significance. Frequency counts and percentages, mean rating and rank order, and Regression Analysis were employed to analyse the data collected. Findings revealed that married teachers were satisfied with their marriages going by the assertion that „their spouses are loving and affectionate‟‟. The linear combination of gender, religion, age, highest educational qualification and length of marriage were not jointly and significantly correlated with marital satisfaction of teachers in Kwara State. It was recommended that marriage counsellors should educate married teachers on the importance of selected demographic variables of gender, age, length of marriage, religion and educational qualification in enhancing marital satisfaction if not directly at least indirectly.Item PREVALENCE OF FATHER-DAUGHTER INCESTOUS RELATIONSHIP AS PERCEIVED BY LITERATE ADULTS IN GOMBE STATE, NIGERIA(Institute Journal of Studies in Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015-11) ONIYE, Abdulrazaq Olayinka; MUSTAPHA, Mulikat Ladi A; ADEBAYO, David O; Joel, DogoIncest is one of the salient sexual abuses that society pays less attention to because of the secrecy involved, most especially, those occurring between biological father and daughter. Gombe State is one of the leading states in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria where father-daughter incestuous relationship is high. Thus, this study investigated the prevalence of father-daughter incestuous relationship as perceived by literate adults in Gombe State, Nigeria. Variables of gender, age and family type were introduced to the study in order to examine their influences on respondents’ perceptions. This study is descriptive in nature and a multi-stage sampling technique procedure was adopted to draw a total sample of 783 literate adults from the three senatorial districts of Gombe State. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire developed by the researchers entitled “Father-Daughter Incestuous Relationship Questionnaire (FIRQ)”. Percentage was used to present the demographic data of the respondents while the null hypotheses were tested using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there is high prevalence of father-daughter incestuous relationship in Gombe State. The hypotheses tested revealed no significant difference in the prevalence of father-daughter incestuous relationship as perceived by literate adults based on gender, age and family type. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that strict law and enforcement should be made on sexual abuse, counsellors should organize seminars regularly to sensitize mothers and their children about incestuous occurrences in the family and disorientate the perpetrators of incest (fathers) against the practice, couples should show more commitment to their marriage in order to reduce to the barest minimum identified causes of father-daughter incestuous relationships.
