Many graduates at various school levels are faced with difficulty of securing jobs after graduating. Opinions differ as to reasons why school leavers are experiencing this hardship. Many blame the students for preparing poorly for work life, while many others lay the blame at the schools doorstep.In recent times however, attention is shifting away from the inadequacies of students and schools to issues bordering on the relevance and adequacy of curriculum contents in school. Employers of labour are looking beyond graduates with good examination results to those who can work independent of much supervision. The question is, do our subject curriculums contains skills that can make graduates work on his/her own independently? The study identified eight employability soft skills that promotes employability and assessed the level at which Business Studies curriculum promotes them. A researcher designed employability skills assessment questionnaire was administered to students and teachers of Business Studies. Both teachers and students admitted that the Business Studies curriculum contain enough content that can promote all the eight identified employability skill, they concluded that a significant relationship exist between acquiring those skills from Business Studies curriculum and getting employment after graduation from secondary schoolItem AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF E-LEARNING FACILITIES FOR MANAGEMENT AND BUSINESS COURSES IN UNIVERSITIES IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA(Nigerian Journal of Business Education (NIGJBED), 2019-10) OLUWALOLA, Felicia Kikelomo; OMOTAYO, Adewale AwodijiInadequate utilization of new technologies facilities by teachers could result in producing graduates with only theoretical knowledge and less experience in practical courses which required the application of ICT skills. This study investigated availability and utilization of elearning facilities for management and business courses in universities in Kwara state. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the conduct of the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised of 282 lecturers of management and business courses in universities in Kwara state. Random and stratified sample techniques were used to select one hundred management and business lecturers in universities in Kwara State. A questionnaire with Cronbach Alpha reliability of 0.80 was used for the data collection. Descriptive of mean rating was used to answer the research questions while the two hypotheses formulated were tested using One-way ANOVA at 0. 05 level of significance. The findings indicated that e-learning facilities were moderately available (mean = 96.64) while utilization was found occasionally used (mean = 98.16) for teaching and learning activities of business and management courses in the selected universities in Kwara state. It was also revealed that there was no statistically significant difference within the group (F (2, 82, 84) = 1.57, .213 @ p >.05). The researcher adopted descriptive survey design for the study. The population for the study comprised secondary school principals and their assistants in both private and public within Ilorin metropolis while ten schools were selected each as sample. The sample consists of 100 teachers, that is, 5 teachers from each school.A research instrument titled “Availability and Utilization of ICT Facilities Questionnaire” (AUICTFQ) was employed to elicit relevant data from the respondents. This study was guided by two research questions. The research questions raised for the study were answered with descriptive statistics of percentages while t-test was used as statistical tool for testing the two hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.The study found that a significant difference exists in the availabilityand utilizationof ICT facilities for administrative purposes in the two independent groups i.e private and public secondary schoolsin Ilorin metropolis. The findings showed further that ICT facilities like computer, laptop, photocopying machine, and printer are highly available in the public and private schoolswhile some ICT facilities such as projector and scanner are less available in public and private secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis of Kwara State.In line with what was found out in this study, it was recommended that school principals, the government, and relevant stakeholders such as parent teacher association should seek tothe provision of these facilities as this will help to improve the administrative functions of secondary schools.Item Budget Implementation Strategies and Organisational Effectiveness in Colleges of Education in Nigeria(Makerere Journal of Higher Education, 2019) Omosidi, A S; Oguntunde, D. A.; OLUWALOLA, Felicia Kikelomo; Ajao, Ajao R. L.This study examined the relationship between budget implementation strategies and organisational effectiveness in colleges of education in Nigeria. Simple random sampling was used to select 24 colleges of education while stratified random sampling was used to select 432 staff as participants in the study. A questionnaire tagged “Budget Implementation Strategies Questionnaire” (BISQ) and one pro-forma titled “Student Academic Achievement Schedules” (SAAS) were used to collect data. The instruments were validated by experts. The reliability coefficient for BISQ was 0.76. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to test the hypotheses while stepwise multiple regression was used to determine the level of contribution of each independent variable to the dependent variable. The findings were that there was a significant relationship between budget implementation strategies and organisational effectiveness in the colleges. Five research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. A survey research designed was adopted for the study. The population of this study comprises all the 4570 teachers in all the private and public junior secondary schools and the employers in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. However the target population includes all the 1305 business studies related teachers in all the junior secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. The sample of the study includes 250 teachers in all the junior secondary schools and 250 employers in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. A structured questionnaire titled “Business Studies Questionnaire” (BSQ) and “Employability Skill Development” (ESDQ) were used to obtain relevant data. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation while inferential statistics of Pearson Product-Moment correlation was used to test the hypotheses formulated at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that level of knowledge acquisition in business studies was rated high by business studies teachers, employability skills level of junior secondary schools students were rated high by the employers of labour also, there was positive relationship exists between accounting, office practice, marketing and employability skills development in junior secondary school Ilorin Metropolis Kwara State. The study concluded that the students that graduated within Ilorin metropolis are possessed with basic soft skills; digital, technical and analytical skills required that could make them employable after graduation. Recommendations were offered and conclusion was made.Item Evaluation of ICT tools accessibility to business education lecturers and students(Journal of Education and Learning (EduLearn), 2021) OLUWALOLA, Felicia KikelomoThe paper evaluated the accessibility of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to business education lecturers and students. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A total of 110 students and 20 lecturers were randomly selected from the department of business education for the study. Two research questions guided the study and one null hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance. The co-efficient of 0.86 was obtained for the research instrument. Research questions were reported as means and standard deviation values while T-test was used to test the null hypothesis. The results showed that ICT supportive tools were available for teaching and learning Business Education in Kwara State College of Education Ilorin. Hence, there was no difference in perception of lecturers and students accessibility of ICT tools. Respondents recommended provision of adequate ICT tools by the government for teaching and learning of business education. Three research questions and one hypothesis were formulated for the study. The researcher adopted a survey research design for the study. The population for the study comprised 500 office technology and management students in Kwara State tertiary institutions. Random sampling techniques were used to collect information from the five selected institutions. Data for the study was gathered using structured questionnaire. Mean and standard deviation were used for data analysis while the hypothesis was tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. Finding revealed among others that office and management students in Kwara State possess a moderate level of computer application skills, desktop publishing skills, internet skills, ICT skills, and there was no statistical significant difference between male and female responses on ICT skills acquired for self-sustenance. This implies that male and female students acquired the same level of ICT skills. It is in line with this that this study examined the relationship that exists between information acquisition strategies and administrative effectiveness of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The survey research design was found suitable for this study. The population of the study consisted of all the administrative staff of the polytechnic Ibadan. Questionnaires entitled Information Acquisition Strategies Questionnaire (IASQ) and Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire (AEQ) were used to solicit information from the respondents. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Statistics was used to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of this study reveal that there was a significant relationship between information acquisition strategies and administrative effectiveness of the Polytechnic Ibadan. It also revealed that there was a significant relationship between information storage strategy and administrative effectiveness. The findings also showed that there was significant relationship between information dissemination strategy and administrative effectiveness of the Polytechnic Ibadan. Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations were made: The polytechnic administrator should introduce the use of bulletin as a method of passing information to all and sundry. Lecturer job performance and student wastage rate concepts were reviewed under which some indicators for measuring both variables were mentioned. The descriptive design of correlation type was adopted for this study which aimed at finding out the relationship between lecturers’ job performance and students’ wastage rate. Four out of the 8 tertiary institutions in Kwara State were selected using random simple sampling technique. Two researcher designed instruments were used for data collection which are a questionnaire tagged, “Lecturers’ Job Performance Questionnaire” (LJPQ) and a checklist tagged “Students’ Wastage Checklist” (SWC). Cronbach method through a pilot test was employed to determine the reliability of the instrument which yielded coefficient values of .85 for (LJPQ). The research questions were answered using percentage while Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that a significant relationship existed between lecturers’ job performance and students’ wastage rate (p-value<0.05). The research design was descriptive survey, stratified random sampling was used to select a total of 200 participants out of 1178 teachers from 21 public secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area. Questionnaires titled Principals Administrative Skill Questionnaire (PASQ) and Teachers Effectiveness Questionnaire (TEQ) was used to collect data for the study. Five research questions were raised to guide the study, one main hypothesis and three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The data were analysed using Pearson product moment correlation statistics and multiple regression statistics. The findings revealed among others that proper information channel was used by principals to enhance necessary decision making in schools; it showed that management information system impacted positive significance on teachers effectiveness, furthermore, it revealed that communication skills was statistically significant on teachers effectiveness. It was concluded that, principals administrative skills should incorporate good communication network for proper information dissemination, as this will enhance necessary decision making and impact positively on teachers’ effectiveness. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that principals should increase the use of proper communication channels to enhance teachers’ effectiveness.Item Risk Involvement and Nigerian Distance Education Goals Achievement(Educational Research International, 2014) OGUNDELE, Michael Olarewaju; OLUWALOLA, Felicia KikelomoThis study investigated the relationship between risk involvement and goals achievement of Nigerian distance education. A correlation research design was adopted for the study. Stratified random sampling techniques was used to determine the reliability index of .67 for the Risk involvement Questionnaire (RIQ) and Academic Goals Achievement Questionnaire (AGAQ) after being subjected to statistic analysis of spearman ranking order statistics. Pearson product moment product statistics was also used to test all the null hypotheses at .05 significance level. Descriptive design of survey type was adopted. The population comprised junior secondary students in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select two hundred (200) junior secondary school students. One research question was answered and one hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. A 9-item structured Students’ Perception of Teachers Attitude to Teaching of Business Students (SPTATS) validated questionnaire with reliability coefficients of 0.80 was used for data collection. Mean standard deviation and t-test were used for analysis. The finding showed that the majority of the students agreed that teachers’ attitude to teaching of business studies was positive. Also, there was significant difference between male and female students’ ‘perception of teachers’ attitude towards the teaching of business studies. Based on the findings it was recommended among others that teachers should be motivated so that they can display more positive attitude and put in more effort for effective teaching and learning of business studies. The business studies teachers should also attend to the needs of all students in the class and should not give room for gender discriminationItem TERTIARY EDUCATION TRUST FUND INTERVENTION PROJECTS AND RESOURCE UTILIZATION IN UNIVERSITIES: PLANNING FOR IMPROVEMENT(MALAYSIAN ONLINE JOURNAL OF EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT (MOJEM), 2014) OLUWALOLA, Felicia Kikelomo; ALABI, A.T.; ABDULKAREEM, A.Y.This study examined the influence of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETF) intervention projects and resource utilization in universities in South Western State of Nigeria. The paper relates to funding and utilization of physical resources in universities in aspects of educational planning and administration. The study was a descriptive design of the correlation type. Purposive sampling technique was used to select six out of 14 beneficiary universities in the States. Instruments used to collect data were “TETF Intervention Projects Checklist” (TETFIPC), “Educational Facilities Checklists” (EFC) and “Resources Utilization Checklists” (RUC). The research questions raised were answered using percentage and utilization rates, while Pearson product-moment correlation statistic was used to test the hypotheses formulated to guide the study at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study indicated that building construction had the highest TETF allocation (64.5%), while staff development opportunities had the least (1.1%) in the sampled universities. Significant and positive relationship existed between time and space utilization rates and student academic performance in the universities (r (1,800) =0.63 and r (1,800) =0.59, p≤0.05 respectively). Based on these findings, it was recommended that TETF should provide more funds to Nigerian universities as well as periodic evaluation of completed TETF projects and utilization to ensure that TETF funds are properly used for the approved projects. Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETF) should improve on the provision of educational facilities to universities for staff and students’ use through increase in education tax from 2% to 4%. FemiThe study examined utilization of e-learning facilities for skill acquisition in colleges of education in Kwara State. Descriptive survey design was adopted. Three research questions and one hypothesis was test at 0.05 level of significance. The population comprises Kwara State College of Education Ilorin, College of Education Oro and College of Education, Lafiagi, Kwara state. Random sampling technique was used to select two hundred and fifty (250) business education students. Questionnaire was used as instrument and was validated by two experts. The reliability used test retest which yielded a coefficient of 0.8. Mean and standard deviation were employed to answer the research questions and t-test was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that e-learning facilities are not sufficiently available in Kwara State Colleges of Education. Also, there was significant difference in the perception of business education students in using e-learning facilities in acquiring business education skills. The study concluded that e-learning facilities were available but were limited and less accessible by students in teaching and learning business education. Based on the findings and conclusion, it was recommended among others, that Governments should endeavour to provide adequate e-learning facilities and software. It was also recommended that teaching materials shall be sufficiently provided for effective teaching, learning and practical skill acquisition
