Item Availability and utilization of ICT Facilities for administrative purposes in Public and Private Secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis of Kwara State.(Published by the Department of Educational Foundations, Federal University of Dustinma, Kastina State, Nigeria, 2019) OJO, Olubukola James; OLUWALOLA, Felicia KikelomoThe availability and utilization of information and communication technology facilities in carrying out administrative tasks in secondary schools cannot be undermined. The researcher adopted descriptive survey design for the study. The population for the study comprised secondary school principals and their assistants in both private and public within Ilorin metropolis while ten schools were selected each as sample. The sample consists of 100 teachers, that is, 5 teachers from each school.A research instrument titled “Availability and Utilization of ICT Facilities Questionnaire” (AUICTFQ) was employed to elicit relevant data from the respondents. This study was guided by two research questions. The research questions raised for the study were answered with descriptive statistics of percentages while t-test was used as statistical tool for testing the two hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.The study found that a significant difference exists in the availabilityand utilizationof ICT facilities for administrative purposes in the two independent groups i.e private and public secondary schoolsin Ilorin metropolis. The findings showed further that ICT facilities like computer, laptop, photocopying machine, and printer are highly available in the public and private schoolswhile some ICT facilities such as projector and scanner are less available in public and private secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis of Kwara State.In line with what was found out in this study, it was recommended that school principals, the government, and relevant stakeholders such as parent teacher association should seek tothe provision of these facilities as this will help to improve the administrative functions of secondary schools.Item Basic schools learning resources and effectiveness in Egbeda Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria.(Published by Adam Marszałek Publishing House Silesian University of Technology, Poland., 2019-01) OJO, Olubukola JamesThe place of school learning resources in supporting effectiveness in basic schools cannot be underestimated. It was against this backdrop that this study was conducted to examine basic schools learning resources and effectiveness in Egbeda Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of the study comprised of all the 36 basic schools in Egbeda Local Government. Twelve basic schools were selected using a stratified sampling technique. The same sampling technique was used to select 15 teachers in the each school. Researcher-designed instruments titled “School Learning Resources Questionnaire” (SLRQ) and “Basic School Effectiveness Questionnaire” (BSEQ) were used for data collection in this study. The validity and the reliability of the instruments were ascertained and the co-efficient of reliability was 0.88. Findings showed that there was a significant relationship between basic schools learning resources and effec tiveness in Egbeda Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria. (r =.402; p<.05). But more often than not, the attainment of this noble target is either ensured or jeopardized by the information strategies put in place by the management. It is in line with this that this study examined the relationship that exists between information acquisition strategies and administrative effectiveness of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The survey research design was found suitable for this study. The population of the study consisted of all the administrative staff of the polytechnic Ibadan. Questionnaires entitled Information Acquisition Strategies Questionnaire (IASQ) and Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire (AEQ) were used to solicit information from the respondents. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Statistics was used to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of this study reveal that there was a significant relationship between information acquisition strategies and administrative effectiveness of the Polytechnic Ibadan. It also revealed that there was a significant relationship between information storage strategy and administrative effectiveness. The findings also showed that there was significant relationship between information dissemination strategy and administrative effectiveness of the Polytechnic Ibadan. Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations were made: The polytechnic administrator should introduce the use of bulletin as a method of passing information to all and sundry. This paper examines the role of basic education in the attainment of vision 20:2020. The concepts and objectives of Basic Education are looked into. The concept of vision 20:2020 and its antecedents are discussed while the bottlenecks to the attainment of vision 20:2020 which include corruption, politicking within education system, Niger Delta crisis, and inconsistency in government policies. How Basic Education could help in the attainment of vision 20:2020 was also discussed, and finally, recommendation was made which include: adequate funding of Basic Education, strategizing measures towards attaining the vision 20:2020.Item Teacher quality and secondary school effectiveness in Ilorin-South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria.(Published by Faculty of Education, the National University of Malaysia., 2014) OJO, Olubukola James; FASASI, Yunus AdebunmiThis paper investigated teacher quality and secondary school effectiveness. The study was conducted to determine the extent to which teacher professional qualification and teacher experience could influence school effectiveness. It was a descriptive survey. The study population comprised the 17public secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria; out of which10 were selected using the random sampling technique. Also, 15 students were randomly selected from each of the sampled schools, making a total of 150 respondents. ‘Teacher Quality Questionnaire’ (TQQ) and ‘School Effectiveness Questionnaire’ (SEQ) were used to collect data. The instruments were validated and their reliability co-efficient, determined by the test-retest method, were 0.71 and 0.77 respectively. The data collected were analysed using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistic. The findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between teacher quality and school effectiveness (calculated r-value of .323 was greater than the critical r-value of .198 at the 0.05 level of significance). Also, there was a significant relationship between teacher professional qualification and school effectiveness, (calculated r-value of .306 was greater than the critical r-value of .198 at the 0.05 level of significance). These findings implied that high quality teachers were essential for a school to achieve its objectives. The paper therefore, recommended that ministries of education should intensify in-service training for teachers, and give attractive incentives to them so that they could stay long in their jobs and perform their duties effectively.Item Teachers’ instructional communication abilities as correlates of students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.(Department of Adult Education and Community Development, Faculty of Education, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti., 2018) OJO, Olubukola James; ILLO, Charles OlukunleThe place of communication in educational institutions and particularly in classroom settings between the teachers and the students cannot be undermined. It is on the basis of this statement that this study investigated the relationship between teachers’ instructional communication abilities and students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Egbeda Local Government Area Oyo State. The descriptive research design was found suitable for this study. The population for this study comprised all the 25 public secondary schools in Egbeda Local Government Area Oyo State out of which eight secondary schools were randomly sampled. The same sampling technique was used to select the 1,253 respondents used for this study. The instruments used for data collection were a questionnaire and a proforma. The questionnaire titled “Teachers’ Instructional Communication Abilities Questionnaire” (TICAQ) and a proforma titled “Students’ Academic Performance Proforma” (SAPP) respectively. Findings of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between teachers’ instructional communication abilities and students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Egbeda Local Government Area Oyo State since the (p-value 0.00 < significance value 0.05). Based on the findings and conclusion from this study, it was recommended among others that: instruction should be communicated by teachers in a clearer language to facilitate better understanding on the part of the students so as to bring about improved performance in public examinations. Also, during instructional communication, teachers should write in an appropriate manner that will help students to have understanding of the concept which have been presented in the classroom. The professional attitudes displayed by teacher matters a lot in the educational process. This study investigated teachers’ professional attitudes and students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis of Kwara State. The survey research design was found suitable for this study. The population of the study consisted of all the secondary school students in Ilorin Metropolis. Two instruments Teachers’ Professional Attitudes Questionnaire (TPAQ) and Students’ Academic Performance Proforma (SAPP) were developed and used for data collection. Pearson product moment correlation statistic was used to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of this study revealed a significant relationship between all the sub-variables of the independent variables and students’ academic performance. Recommendations were made that teachers should adopt effective verbal communication attitudes, classroom management attitudes and pedagogical attitudes.
