Item COUNSELLING FOR GENDER SENSITIVITY IN NIGERIA: COUNSELLORS’ ROLES(The Nigerian Journal of Guidance and Counselling. 18 (1); 93-102, 2013) Durosaro, Irene Abiodun; MUSTAPHA, Mulikat Ladi A; Okesina, Falilat AnikeThis paper examined the need for Nigerian counsellors to engage in gender sensitive counselling in order to promote national development. Gender-sensitive counselling is an enlightened process that emphasises increased awareness of the social order of gender. Gender-sensitive counselling refers to the counselling process that identifies and acknowledges gendered structures and processes in the society, as well as how they affect men and women’s lives. The contributions of women in the development of any nation cannot be over emphasised. There are many gender stereotypes in Nigeria as well as in some other parts of the world that influence individual’s daily processing of information. These gender stereotypes affect people’s thoughts often without realising this influence. Invariably, such biased thoughts limit individual choices in many daily situations especially for the females. Gender stereotypes has led to discrepancy in the male/female interest and participation in education, science and technology, key economic activities, labour market and other social exclusion problems. School guidance and counselling has the capacity to change these cultural barriers and restrictions; however, current situation revealed the need for Nigerian counsellors to be more gender sensitive in the discharge of their professional responsibilities. This can be achieved through the development of gender sensitive counselling skills and activities. This paper therefore highlights the needed gender sensitive skills for counsellors to contribute their quota to national development by reducing and gradually eradicating sexism in Nigeria.Item Demographic Variables as Correlate of Marital Satisfaction of Teachers in Kwara State, Nigeria(Solusi University Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, 2017-06) ONIYE, Abdulrazaq Olayinka; MUSTAPHA, Mulikat Ladi A; Ajiboye, Samuel Kolawole; Alade, E. EThis study investigated the relative influence of demographic variables (gender, age, highest educational qualification, religion and length of marriage) on marital satisfaction of married teachers in Kwara State. Correlational research design was adopted for the study using multi-stage sampling technique to select 670 married teachers from the three Senatorial Districts of Kwara State. A Questionnaire titled “Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ)” was used to collect the data. One null hypothesis generated was tested at 0.05level of significance. Frequency counts and percentages, mean rating and rank order, and Regression Analysis were employed to analyse the data collected. Findings revealed that married teachers were satisfied with their marriages going by the assertion that „their spouses are loving and affectionate‟‟. The linear combination of gender, religion, age, highest educational qualification and length of marriage were not jointly and significantly correlated with marital satisfaction of teachers in Kwara State. It was recommended that marriage counsellors should educate married teachers on the importance of selected demographic variables of gender, age, length of marriage, religion and educational qualification in enhancing marital satisfaction if not directly at least indirectly.Item Effectiveness of Client-Centred therapy in reducing bullying behaviour among in-school adolescents based on gender and age.(Collaboration of Education Faculties in West Africa., 2016) Makinde, Bola O; MUSTAPHA, Mulikat Ladi A; Okesina, Falilat AnikeBullying behaviour refers to the intimidation of a weaker person: it is the process of intimidating or mistreating someone who is weaker or in a more vulnerable situation. The study was Quasi experimental in nature using a 2 x2 x2 factorial design made up of two (2) row groups (one experimental and one control) and two (2) column groups (age and gender). Instrument used for the study was Bullying Identification Questionnaire (BIQ). Bullying behavior was studied; only those that scored high in bullying items and less in victimisation items participated in the study. CCT was found effective in the reduction of bullying behaviour among in-school adolescents F(df = 1, 47) = 34.6); F (df =1, 47) =52.5. p<0.05) respectively. CCT reduced bullying behavior more significantly among in-school adolescents within the age range of 15-19 years than adolescents within the age range of 10-14 years. It was recommended that CCT be used in the treatment of in-school adolescents with bullying behaviours.Item EFFECTIVENESS OF COGNITIVE RESTRUCTURING AND SELF-MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES IN AMELIORATING PRE-RETIREMENT PHOBIA AMONG CIVIL SERVANTS IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Science Education, School of Science and Science Education, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria,, 2019-03) AGUBOSI, Lydia Akunna; MUSTAPHA, Mulikat Ladi AThe study examined effectiveness of cognitive restructuring and self- management techniques in ameliorating pre-retirement phobia among civil servants in Lagos state. The research was quasi-experimental design.
