Item Assessing the influence of job stress on the employees’ work attitudes in Selected Banks in the University of Ilorin(Department of Economics, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, 2019-08-15) Dunmade, E. O.; Kadiri, I. B.; Aremu, N. S.; Adribigbe, A. S.The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of job insecurity and burnout on the commitment of employees in Guaranty Trust Bank Plc Ilorin. This research is conducted as a descriptive and field study. A total of 103 employees were sampled from a population of 139 staff of GTB in Ilorin Metropolis, using simple random sampling technique, out of which 93 copies of the questionnaire were completely filled and returned. Pearson moment coefficient was used in analyzing the data, by means of SPSS version 25.0. The findings revealed an inverse relationship among the variables under study. Therefore, this study concluded that, both job insecurity and job burnout negatively affect employee commitment. S.Job stress is considered to be frequently experienced by employees in the banking sector and this has become a serious challenge for the management due to the resultant effects such as increased absenteeism, low productivity, and throng of other employees' problems like hypertension and host of cardiovascular problems. Thus necessitates urgent solution to the problem in the industry. The study therefore attempts to assess the influence of job stress on the employees' work attitudes in the selected banks in the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. Therefore, the objectives of the study are to examine the influence of job stress on employees' work performance and to investigate the relationship between job stress and employees' work attitude. The paper adopted simple random sampling technique with the use of questionnaire to get required information from the respondents. The descriptive statistics used include simple percentages and tables, while regression was the inferential statistics utilised. The findings of the study showed that job stress has a significant influence on employees' work performance in the selected banks with R ^ 2 = 0.65 F = 8.36 and p < 0.05 It also revealed that there was a significant influence of job stress on employees' work attitude in the selected banks in the University of Ilorin having R ^ 2 = 0.45 F = 63.96 and p < 0.05 The paper recommends that management of the selected banks in University of Ilorin should put in place suitable mechanisms capable of mitigating the effect of work stress before it aggravates into burnout, which is a reaction to persistent job stress.Item Assessing the influence of job stress on the employees’ work attitudes in some selected banks in the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria(Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Maiduguri, Borno – State, Nigeria, 2019) Dunmade, E.O.; Kadiri, I. Managing small business through Entrepreneurial practices as well as the reasons for Business failure in business environment has become issues in Nigeria context. Problems, prospects, and significance of entrepreneurship business in Nigeria were analyzed. The study used secondary data, some which are previous researches and analyses of scholars; and related journal articles. Findings shown that most SMEs particularly in Nigeria liquidated within their first five years of their operations due to contributing factors such as insufficient capital, lack of focus, inadequate market research, over-concentration on one or two markets for finished products, and lack of succession plan. This has negative effect on sustainable development of the country. It is concluded that, the secret behind the success of self-reliant strategy is mainly in peoples’ positive attitudes to enterprise, and in the extent to which the right incentive, adequate enough to make risk worth taking rather than in any particular political philosophy. J.The study investigates the influence of human resource management practices on employees’ commitment in ensuring sustainable performance among the staff of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command Headquarters, Ilorin. The population of the study comprised employees of NSCDC consisting six departments. A self-administered questionnaire was used for the study. The results of the tested hypotheses showed that training and development have significant effect on employee commitment (β =.713, t=15.544; p<.05), and that performance appraisal has significant effect on employee commitment (β =.136, t=2.949; p<.05). It was also shown that compensation management has a significant effect on employee commitment (β =-.134, t=3.063; p<.05). This implies that changes towards better direction in HRM practices results positively in employee’s commitment, and vice versa. B.; Kadiri, I. B.; Aliyu, M. O.Performance Management focuses on the organizational and employees’ performances and the system that are usually employed for carrying out the process of evaluation. Performance Management System (PMS) is said to have been developed and implemented resulting in the failure to deliver the results people expect from it. This is one of the biggest challenges facing line managers and human resource unit of most establishments and it usually escalates to different approaches from employee’s perspectives. The main objective of the paper is to examine the effect of Performance Management System (PMS) on Employees’ Attitude in the Nigerian Banking Sector. The study used Stratified Sampling Technique to select a total number of one hundred and eighty (180) staff from Head Offices of the fifteen (15) listed Banks in Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data obtained were analyzed and presented using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Correlation and regression analysis were used to test the hypotheses formulated for the study. The findings revealed that R2 of 0.2177, 0.4066 and 0.6687 values suggested that variables in the model are all jointly significantly influence the probability of the Nigerian banking sector performing better. The study concluded that the implementation of PMS is said to be the commencement of changed attitude to work due to continuous and systematic assessment of employees’ performance on a regular basis. Noting that PMS in the Nigerian Banking Sector would obtain better results if they can further improve some segments of PMS such as objective performance, monitoring and evaluation. The study recommended that; management should continue to communicate the importance of Performance Management System (PMS) to employees until the process is entrenched and also the outcomes should be channeled to employee developmental and promotional purposes.Item Effect of Reward on Organizational Commitment: A Case Study of Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Nigeria(Journal of Sustainable Development in Africa., 2017) Isiaka, S. B.; Kadiri, I. B.; Jimoh, A. L.This study examined the effect of reward on organizational commitment with reference to Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Nigeria. The case study is chosen because tax revenue is an instrument of economic development of most countries including Nigeria, that can put them on the road to sustainable development. The population of the study is 135 purposively selected staff of the organization and the sample size of 100 was determined through the Guilford and Flruchter formula. Regression was used in analyzing the data obtained through questionnaire. The results showed that reward had a positive and significant effect on the commitment of the organization (R= .567, R2=.321, P<0.5). O.; Olusesi, D.For workforces being the organization’s most essential and treasured resources to function to the fullest so as to achieve on time the set goals of any organization, the management of such workplace is expected to give its maximum support for easy work performance through effective communication. The study therefore seeks to examine the influence of effective communication on the achievement of organizational goals with a concentration on Chi – Farms limited, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. This was with the sample size of Four Hundred and Thirty Eight (438) respondents. Simple random sampling technique was adopted for the study with the employment of structured questionnaire to draw the required information from the respondents. This is due to the method’s ease of use and ability to accurately represent a large population. The descriptive statistics employed included simple percentages and tables, while inferential statistics used was regression. The findings of the study established that effective communication has positive and significant effect on the achievement of organizational goals ((R2=.0.975, F= 18.574 p<0.05)). L.The various studies on organisational culture have shown that employees in most of the business organisations in Nigeria today are operating under the whims and caprices of the owners established beliefs, values and norms which are usually difficult to change as environment changes. Failure in the attempt to properly capture the interest of the employees when addressing this, usually generate the exhibition of some attitudes and behaviours that are inconsistent with the company’s best interests. Therefore, this study examines the impact of organizational culture on employees’ performance with reference to selected Pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design. Primary data was used to obtain the needed information through structured questionnaire. Out of 634 permanent staff of the selected pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria, simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 239 respondents. Multiple regression used to test the formulated hypothesis. The result of the regression showed that organizational culture has significant impact on employees performance (R Square of 0.684, p-value=0.0001). The study concludes that organization culture has a significant relationship as well as a good influence on employees performance. Also, significant differences exist in the level of adherence to the identified cultural dimensions. The study therefore recommended that the Pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria should promote organisational culture, especially by paying more attention to detail so as to yield positive and significant contribution to employees performance.
