Item Relevant gene selection using ANOVA-ant colony optimisation approach for malaria vector data classification(Inderscience Publishers (IEL), 2022-11-14) Arowolo, Micheal Olaolu; Awotunde, Joseph Bamidele; Ayegba, Peace; Haroon-Sulyman, Shakirat OluwatosinRecent progress in gene expression data research makes it possible to quantify and identify several thousand genes’ expressions simultaneously. For malaria infection and transmission, gene expression data classification using dimensionality reduction is a standard approach in gene expression data analysis and proposed for this study. A major problem occurs in the reduction of high dimensional data, it plays a significant role in improving the precision of classification, allowing biologists and clinicians to correctly predict infections in humans by choosing a limited subclass of appropriate genes and deleting redundant, and noisy genes. The combination of a novel analysis of variance (ANOVA) with ant colony optimisation (ACO) approach as a hybrid feature selection to select relevant genes is suggested in this study to minimise the redundancy between genes, and SVM is used for classification. The proposed method’s efficacy was shown by the experimental outcomes based on the high-dimensional of gene expression data.Item Social Media Usage for Mental Health Information among University of Ilorin Undergraduates(Social & Digital Media Discourse, 2020) Kadiri, Kehinde Kadijat; Haroon-Sulyman, Shakirat Oluwatosin; Kehinde, Adetola Ayotunde; Adejumo, Phebian Boluwatife; Udende, PatrickThe increased deterioration of mental health among undergraduates, its causes, and viable panaceas are becoming an academic concern and a populated area of study among researchers worldwide. Amidst this is a bone of contention among scholars on the relevance of social media and its role in improving or deteriorating the mental health of undergraduates. Social media and its affiliated applications may either depreciate mental health or improve it among undergraduates. Thus, through an exploratory qualitative research design, this study investigated social media usage for mental health information among University of Ilorin undergraduates to understand the consequences of social media use on their mental health. The study purposively sampled thirty undergraduates using the in-depth interview as the instrument for data collection. Findings revealed that there is high usage of social media among the undergraduates. Based on the findings, the high usage of social media is borne out of the need to gratify their mental health needs, using it to seek mental health assistance. While there is an attestation by the undergraduates that social media usage has positive consequences on their mental health, the platform is found to predispose them to depression and low self-esteem. The study recommended that mental healthcare providers should focus more on mental health advocacy on social media as this would help to give credibility to mental health information available on social media.Item Social Media Usage for Mental Health Information among University of Ilorin Undergraduates(Social & Digital Media Discourse, 2020) Kadiri, Kehinde Kadijat; Haroon-Sulyman, Shakirat Oluwatosin; Kehinde, Adetola Ayotunde; Adejumo, Phebian Boluwatife; Udende, PatrickThe increased deterioration of mental health among undergraduates, its causes, and viable panaceas are becoming an academic concern and a populated area of study among researchers worldwide. Hence, the study examined Twitter discourse on the 2019 pre-presidential election campaign in Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique with thematic textual research method was used to thematically analyse tweets based on the research questions. Findings from the study showed that the kind of engagement made or done by Nigerians regarding the 2019 pre-presidential election campaigns was based on the topic, with most topics being met with sarcasm. The sarcasm found in the tweets pointed to the way Nigerians react in a situation that they have no way of rectifying. Also, findings from the study showed that celebrity tweet gets more engagement compared to tweets made by unpopular tweeps. Conclusively, the study found that the level of discourse on Twitter regarding Nigeria’s 2019 pre-presidential elections was very rich and participatory this implies that Nigerians have a high propensity to relate on social media as their rate of responses as well as their frequency of responses remained high throughout the election campaign period which to a large extent predicts real-life events.Item Use of Social Media Marketing Strategies among Infopreneurs in South-West Nigeria(ESS ESS Publications, 2021) Ajiboye, Oluyemisi Olubukola; Haroon-Sulyman, Shakirat Oluwatosin; Chris-Israel, Helen OsebequenThe study investigated the influence of social media marketing strategies on infopreneurship in Nigeria during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Four research questions and a hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive research design and online survey form was used as instrument of data collection. The population of the study comprised all the members of the NALISE who are infopreneurs. Convenience sampling was used to sample the population because of the incidence of COVID-19 in the country which necessitated a shut down on schools across the states and online administration of the instrument was considered the most effective for data collection. The online survey form was dropped at the NALISE Whatsapp group chat and 23 forms were found usable. The study showed that there was a positive influence of social media marketing strategies on infopreneurship during the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, there was also an increase in sales with the use of social media. The study recommended that LIS professionals should engage in infopreneurship and also adopt the use of social media in their businesses to take advantage of the wide reach and customer relationship management that social media offers.
