Item INFLUENCE OF EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE ON JOB PERFORMANCE OF SELECTED PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHERS IN ILORIN WEST LGA.(Faculty of Social sciences, University of Ilorin, 2023-02) Fagbamila Olumide David; Ajao Paul; Ajao Tunmise; Adeyi MargretThis study investigated the influence of emotional intelligence on job performance among selected private school teachers in Ilorin West LGA metropolis. A quantitative cross-sectional research design was utilized in the study. A total of 423 teachers were selected using purposive sampling technique. In the course of the data collection, Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and Value-based Performance Scale (VPS) were used. The data collected were statistically analyzed using t-test for independent samples and the simple linear regression at .05 level of significance. The results demonstrated that emotional resilience significantly influence the job performance of the selected private school teachers in Ilorin West LGA metropolis. The research further indicated that there was gender difference on the job performance of the teachers. Also, it was observed that there exist age difference on the job performance of the teachers. Based on the of the outcomes of the study, it concluded that in a demanding and constantly changing work environment, teachers with higher levels of emotional resilience are likely to perform better when compared to those with lower levels of emotional resilience. The study proposes that school management should assess the emotional resilience level of prospective teachers at the point of recruitment notably in relation to their role and the other job specifications. Also it will be great if the teachers get to know about the benefits of being more emotionally resilient since it will be useful not only for their career, but also for their personal lives.Item Just and Unjust System: A Critical Assessment of Criminal Culpability in Law.(Department of Sociology, Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria, 2014-09) Abdulganiyu Abolore Issa; Akinfenwa Seun; Amali Suleiman; Fagbamila Olumide DavidThis paper examines the criminal justice perceived link between legal and moral blame, a claim between just and unjust criminal justice systems. Most of the criminal law's culpability and excuse doctrine for crimes are derived from the criminal law's account of moral responsibility for actions as prescribed by the ruling class. To evaluate how well our legal blaming judgments and legal excuses actually track defensible accounts of moral blame and moral excuses in the light of appropriate application of rules enacted by an oligarchic few on the generality of the masses, this paper dwelt extensively on how the criminal law provides a competing accounts of criminal justice in the dimension of just and unjust justice system. The data used in the study were derived from secondary sources. The findings reveal that just and unjust justice system has created the problem of assessment and culpability. After making long and short term recommendations, it was concluded that for the justice system to once again perform its role in the dispensation of justice, fundamental steps must be taken in the right direction which is the reconstitution of the constitutional base.Item MALE CHILD PREFERENCE AND ATTITUDE OF MOTHERS TOWARDS CHILD SPACING IN RURAL KANO, NIGERIA(Faculty of Social Sciences, Kogi State University, Anyingba, 2019-10) Maimuna Bintu Hussain; Fagbamila Olumide David; Aina MondayThere is strong socio-cultural value and status attached to having a male child in rural area, and thus can affect the attitudes of mothers in terms of engaging in child spacing. Male child preference is motivating mothers to keep having pregnancy and compromising their maternal health so as to have many male children in order to meet the societal expectation. The theory of planned behaviour was employed in this research. The study design was a survey method. A total of 1,143 mothers from three Local Government Areas of Kano State were proportionally drawn using multi-stage sampling procedure. The primary data were generated through the administration of copies of questionnaire, Key Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions, while the secondary data were sourced from data based international organizations. The quantitative data were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics at 5% level of significant, while qualitative data were reported. The findings of the study were that: Male child preference has significant effects on mother’s behaviour in terms of engaging in child spacing ¬(x2= 6.527); Qualitative results affirmed that the practice of male child preference determines mother’s child spacing behaviour. The study concluded that male child preference is an important causal factor in the explanation of why some mothers neglect child spacing and keep engaging in frequent child birth that can lead to maternal mortality.Item OCCUPATIONAL STATUS AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS CORRUPTION AMONG NIGERIAN POLICE OFFICERS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS(Department of Criminology, National Open University of Nigeria, 2020-06) Fagbamila Olumide David; Folorunsho Sunkanmi Adam; Akinola, Akinwale MosesThere are a number of records that clearly prove the intensity of corrupt practices among Nigerian police officers. On daily basis, police officers extort money from motorists, traders, and innocent people and endanger their lives. Also, in some cases, they align with armed robbers and other deadly people and put the lives of people in great risk. There are many factors contributing to corrupt practices and the writer focus on occupational status. Occupational status involves individual wealth, income, prestige among others. It should be noted that most Nigerian police officers are receiving ridiculous low salaries and as expected, these salaries are not enough to take care of their basic fundamental needs. Since they cannot satisfy their needs, they may need to find alternatives. These alternatives may revolve around collecting bribes and engaging in many corrupt practices. In order to minimize corrupt practices among Nigerian police officers, government should endeavour to review salaries of police force since they deal with life. 120 respondents were considered for this study and responses were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). This study explores sociocultural factors and their roles in the perpetual incidence of corruption using Kwara state as the case of examination. 1,175 questionnaires were administered. The analysis of data and test of hypotheses were carried out using the descriptive method as well as inferential statistics of the t-test. It was discovered that there are significant differences between religion, social norms, cultural values and corrupt behaviour in Kwara state. It can be concluded that the roles of cultural factors (religion, social norms and cultural values) cannot be neglected while addressing the perpetual cases of corruption in Nigeria.
