Item Chelation, Characterization and Antimicrobial Screening of Some Mixed Antituberculosis–Vitamin Metal Drug Complexes(Al-Hikmah University, 2017-05-04) Bamigboye, Mercy O; Obaleye, Joshua A; Lawal, Amudat; Babamale, Halimah Funmilayo; Ajibola, A. A; Adimula, Vincent O; Lawal, MisturaIn this study, mixed Zn(II), Cu(II), Co(II) complexes of Isoniazid and vitamin C were synthesized and characterized by melting point, conductivity measurement, Fourier Transform Infra-red (FT-IR), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The bonding nature of the mixed parent ligands and the structure of the complexes were based on analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The complexes were proposed to have the formula [M1L1L2(Cl2)], [M2L1L2(SO4)], [M3L1L2(Cl2)] where M1 = Zn(II), M2 = Cu(II), M3= Co (II) L1= Isoniazid and L2 = Vitamin C. The infra-red data relate to the results of the most informative and indicative region. The result of spectra data confirmed that the two ligands were bidentate in their mode of coordination with the metal ions. The complexes are in octahedral geometry and the molar conductance was found to be non-electrolytic in nature. Antimicrobial test was carried out against four bacterial species namely Bacillus subtilus, Staphylococuss aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeroginosa. All the complexes showed higher antibacterial activity at the same concentration against the microorganisms used compared to the ligands.Item Mixed metal complexes of Artemether, Lumefantrine and Ascorbic acid: Synthesis, characterization and biological activity studies(Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Ilorin, 2019) Babamale, Halimah Funmilayo; Obaleye, Joshua A; Lawal, Amudalat; Rajee, Abdullahi O; Bamigboye, Mercy O; Lawal, Misitura; Sa'ad, H. OSome transition metal complexes of mixed artemether, ascorbic acid and lumefantrine have been synthesized and characterized using UV/Vis, FTIR, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Gas chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS). The results revealed that the artemether and ascorbic acid are chelating ligands and coordinates through the oxygen of the carbonyl groups while lumefantrine coordinates through the hydroxyl group in a monodentate fashion. The metal complexes were investigated for biological activity using five bacterial species - Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It was observed that the synthesized complexes were more effective towards the five bacteria species than the free drugs.Item Stability constant of some Anti-Tuberculosis metal drug complexes(University of Ilorin, 2017) Bamigboye, Mercy O; Eke, U B; Obaleye, Joshua A; Babamale, Halimah FunmilayoThe formation of Isonicotinic Acid Hydrazide and Pyrazine-2-carboxamide complexes were prepared and analyzed by determining the stoichiometry and stability constant (Spectrophotometric method). The ionic strength used was maintained constant at 0.1 M KNO3. The stability constants were calculated to be log 61.21 - 254 in Isonicotinic Acid Hydrazide while in Pyrazine-2-carboxamide 55.5 - 274.29. The order of stability constant of the metal to ligand reaction follows this trend: Ni(II) > Cu(II) > Co(II) > Fe(II) > Mn(II) > Zn(II). The order of the stability constant is in agreement with the trend of Electronegativity.
