Item Effect of Information and Communication Technology on Senior School Islamic Studies Students’ Achievement in Fiqh in Ilorin, Nigeria.(The Department of Religious and Cultural Studies, Akwa Ibom State University, Obio-Akpa, Nigeria., 2020-01-01) Abdur-Rafiu, Jamiu; Aliyu, Yunus; Lawal, O. GaniyuThis study investigated the effect of Information and Communication Technology on Senior School Islamic Studies Students achievement in Fiqh in Ilorin, Nigeria. It examined the significant differences in the post-test performance scores of students taught using Information and Communication Technology tools (videotape) and those taught using conventional classroom instruction. The research design that was adopted for this study is the Quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 104 Secondary School (SS II) Students drawn from two equivalent secondary schools within Ilorin metropolis. The Islamic Religious Studies Performance Test (IRSPT) was administered to the students as pre-test and post-test. The results of the students were analysesd using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The finding shows that the students taught using videotaped instruction performed significantly better than their counterparts taught using the normal classroom instruction, and that gender has no influence on students’ performance in Fiqh aspect of Islamic Religious Studies when videotape instruction was used. Based on the finding of the study, it was recommended among others that Islamic Religious Studies teachers should be resourceful enough to look for relevant videotape programmes that can be used to enhance their teaching so that behavioural objectives set for instruction can be achieved. Seminars, Workshops, and in-service training should be organised for teachers to enable them acquire the necessary skills and also update their knowledge about the development and proper use of instructional materials for classroom instruction. School administration and government agencies should support Islamic Religious Studies teachers by sponsoring them to professional conferences and workshops regularly to develop their skills in instructional materials development.Item Influence of Parental Educational and Occupational Backgrounds on Academic Performance of Female Muslim Students in Ilorin, Nigeria.(The Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education and Extension Services, Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria, 2015-06-01) Aliyu, Yunus; Ajidagba, Uthman Abdul Rahman; Abdur-Rafiu, JamiuABSTRACT This study investigated the influence of parental educational and occupational background on the performance of female Muslim students in Ilorin. A descriptive survey was adopted. While purposive sampling procedure was used to select six secondary schools across the three local governments area in Ilorin. In all, 300 female Muslim students were selected using simple random sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection were a questionnaire and students JSSCE Examination Result. Findings of this study showed that Muslim female students’ performance in the selected subjects (English, Mathematics, Islamic Studies, Integrated Science and Social Studies) at Upper Basic School is encouraging. Also, the null hypothesis which stated that there is no significant difference in the Muslim students’ performance based on the educational qualification of the parents was rejected. Also, the null hypotheses two which stated that there is no significant difference in Muslim female students’ performance based on the occupational status of the parents was also rejected. It was also found that there is a positive relationship between parental involvement and Muslim female students’ performance. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the government should ensure that policies meant to foster equal access to formal education by both male and female citizen are not only formulated but also politically backed to ensure its success.Item Secondary School Students’ Perception on Effectiveness of Arabic Texts Translation in Learning Islamic Studies in Ilorin, Nigeria.(Department of Arts Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria., 2020-02-01) Abdur-Rafiu, Jamiu; Ajidagba, Uthman Abdul Rahman; Aliyu, YunusThis study is geared towards investigating the secondary school students’ perception of effectiveness of translation of Arabic texts in learning Islamic studies in Ilorin, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive method and a questionnaire was used to elicit responses from the respondents. Three research questions were raised and answered in the study. The respondents' opinions to the questionnaire items were used to answer the research questions while frequency counts and percentage distribution were used to analyse the data obtained. The result indicated that translation motivates students to learn Islamic Studies and eventually leads to effective assimilation of Islamic Studies concepts. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that provision should be made for more translations of Qur'an, Hadith and other sources of Islamic Studies.Item Teachers’ Perception on the Effectiveness of Methods of Teaching Islamic Studies in North-Central, Nigeria. Islamic teachers in secondary schools across Kwara, Kogi and Niger states were engaged in the study. It was revealed that discussion methods were said to be effective. It was recommended that non-professional teachers must be allowed to undergo professional training so as to enhance the teaching and doption of effective methods in teaching the subject
