    Influence of Parental Educational and Occupational Backgrounds on Academic Performance of Female Muslim Students in Ilorin, Nigeria.

    ABSTRACT This study investigated the influence of parental educational and occupational background on the performance of female Muslim students in Ilorin. A descriptive survey was adopted. While purposive sampling procedure was used to select six secondary schools across the three local governments area in Ilorin. In all, 300 female Muslim students were selected using simple random sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection were a questionnaire and students JSSCE Examination Result. Findings of this study showed that Muslim female students’ performance in the selected subjects (English, Mathematics, Islamic Studies, Integrated Science and Social Studies) at Upper Basic School is encouraging. Also, the null hypothesis which stated that there is no significant difference in the Muslim students’ performance based on the educational qualification of the parents was rejected. Also, the null hypotheses two which stated that there is no significant difference in Muslim female students’ performance based on the occupational status of the parents was also rejected. It was also found that there is a positive relationship between parental involvement and Muslim female students’ performance. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the government should ensure that policies meant to foster equal access to formal education by both male and female citizen are not only formulated but also politically backed to ensure its success.

    National Integration in Nigeria: The Islamic Perspective.

    This paper examines the elements of National Integration from Islamic perspective. In so doing, descriptive method was adopted. The data were collected through secondary sources. i.e. textbooks, journals and electronic materials. The scope of the paper revolved around definitions of Islam and National integration, enumeration of five elements or dimensions of National integration and juxtaposition of elements of National integration and the teachings of Islam. Emphasis is laid on the fact that Islam as a religion covers all spheres of life with its teachings. Explanation is given on the relevance of Islamic teachings with elements or dimensions of National integration. The paper concludes that this work is significant most especially it refutes some thinking about Islam as a static or retrogressive religion. The paper believes that if those teachings of Islam are considered, they would facilitate the theme of National Integration and development

    Secondary School Students’ Perception on Effectiveness of Arabic Texts Translation in Learning Islamic Studies in Ilorin, Nigeria.

    This study is geared towards investigating the secondary school students’ perception of effectiveness of translation of Arabic texts in learning Islamic studies in Ilorin, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive method and a questionnaire was used to elicit responses from the respondents. Three research questions were raised and answered in the study. The respondents' opinions to the questionnaire items were used to answer the research questions while frequency counts and percentage distribution were used to analyse the data obtained. The result indicated that translation motivates students to learn Islamic Studies and eventually leads to effective assimilation of Islamic Studies concepts. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that provision should be made for more translations of Qur'an, Hadith and other sources of Islamic Studies.

    Teachers' Perception of the potentials of Religious Education in Curbing Cultism among Secondary School Students in Ilorin, Nigeria.

    This study examined teachers’ perception of the potentials of religious education in curbing cultism among secondary school students in Ilorin on the basis of school type, gender, school proprietorship and subject taught. Stratified sampling technique was used to select 400 teachers from 10 selected schools in Ilorin South. Questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents. Four hypotheses were tested with the use of t-test statistical analysis Four hypotheses were postulated and tested with the use of t-test statistical analysis all at 0.05 level of significant. From data analysis, it was evident that the general perception of teachers on the potentials of religious education in curbing cultism among secondary school students was positive. Although there exist differences in the perceptions of teachers based gender, school type and subject taught, all the respondents believed that religious education has the potentials to curb cultism among secondary school students. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that the teaching of religious subjects should be promoted in the schools so as to curb cultism. Religious education should also be made compulsory for all students. Teachers of Religious Studies in collaboration with school authorities need to organize constant symposia on the menace of cultism for students.
