Item Demographic Variables as Correlate of Marital Satisfaction of Teachers in Kwara State, Nigeria(Solusi University Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, 2017-06) ONIYE, Abdulrazaq Olayinka; MUSTAPHA, Mulikat Ladi A; Ajiboye, Samuel Kolawole; Alade, E. EThis study investigated the relative influence of demographic variables (gender, age, highest educational qualification, religion and length of marriage) on marital satisfaction of married teachers in Kwara State. Correlational research design was adopted for the study using multi-stage sampling technique to select 670 married teachers from the three Senatorial Districts of Kwara State. A Questionnaire titled “Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ)” was used to collect the data. One null hypothesis generated was tested at 0.05level of significance. Frequency counts and percentages, mean rating and rank order, and Regression Analysis were employed to analyse the data collected. Findings revealed that married teachers were satisfied with their marriages going by the assertion that „their spouses are loving and affectionate‟‟. The linear combination of gender, religion, age, highest educational qualification and length of marriage were not jointly and significantly correlated with marital satisfaction of teachers in Kwara State. It was recommended that marriage counsellors should educate married teachers on the importance of selected demographic variables of gender, age, length of marriage, religion and educational qualification in enhancing marital satisfaction if not directly at least indirectly.Item Determinants of Secondary School Students' Academic Performance as Perceived by Secondary School Teachers in Ilorin West Local Government, Kwara State(Al-Hikma Journal of Education, 2016) Okesina, Falilat Anike; Ajiboye, Samuel Kolawole; Odebode, Aminat AdeolaThe paper investigated the determinants of secondary school students' academic performance as perceived by secondary school teachers in florin West Local Government Kwara State, Nigeria. The differences in the respondents' expression on the bases of age, gender school type were also examined. A total of 200 teachers were selected using stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Data was collected from the respondents with the use of a Researcher-designed instrument entitled "Determinants of Student's Academic Performance Questionnaire (DSAPQ). The validity of the instrument was done by experts and the reliability of the instrument was ascertained using test re-test reliability method with r value of 0.89. The hypotheses generated were analyzed using the t-test statistics and Analysis of variants (ANOV4) at 0,05 alpha level. Result showed that the major determinants of academic performance are lack of available resource materials, students' poor study habits and poor knowledge of English Language. The study indicted no significant difference in the perception of teachers on the determinants of academic performance based on gender and type of school, however, there was a significant difference based on age. Recommendations were made that school administrations should provide proper learning resource materials for students; counsellors should help students to cultivate good study and reading habits. Emotional abuse is one that degrades self-worth and interferes with development and productivity of a child. This study therefore investigated incidence of emotional abuse as expressed by secondary school students in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. The simple random sampling technique was adopted for the selection of 200 respondents that participated in the study. The instrument used for this study was a self-developed questionnaire titled “Incidence of Emotional Abuse Questionnaire " (IEAQ). The instrument possessed a reliability coefficient of 0. 69 after being subjected to the test-r -test procedure The instrument consisted of 15 items which elicited information from the randomly selected respondents. A research question and three null hypotheses were formulated and tested with descriptive and inferential (t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistics. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance The findings revealed that secondary school students expressed having experienced a lot of emotional abuse such as name-calling, verbal intimidation, isolation, ignoring, and humiliation. Further results indicated that class level, gender and family type did not influence the views of the respondents. It was recommended that school authorities should periodically enlighten the teachers and other school staff members on how to avoid the use of emotional abuse on students. The study determined the relationship between peer pressure and sexual activities of in-school adolescents and moderating variables of gender, educational level and religion. The research is an empirical study which adopted the descriptive survey of correlation type. The purposive sampling technique was used to select 400 respondents that participated in the study while a questionnaire type of instruments titled “Peer Influence and Sexual Activities Questionnaire (PIASAQ)” was used to collect data. Having been subjected to the test re-test method of obtaining the psychometric property, the instrument possessed a reliability coefficient at 0.85, which was adequate. The Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation and t-test statistics were used to analyse the data collect at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that there is significant relationship between peer influence and sexual activities of school-going adolescents and respondents were significantly different in the relationship between peer influence and sexual activities based on gender and educational level but similar on the basis of religion. This study therefore investigated sources of examination anxiety among final year students of University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The descriptive survey method of research was adopted for the study while the simple random sampling technique was used to select 600 respondent that participated in the study. The instrument used to gather the required information was questionnaire type titled "Sources of Examination Anxiety Questionnaire (SEAQ). It has two sections (A&B). Section ‘A’ sought the demographic information of the respondents while ‘B’ has four sub-sections containing five items each. The measure of central tendency and t-test statistics were used to analyse the data gathered for the study. The findings revealed that emotion is the major source of examination anxiety among final year students of tertiary institutions. The respondents were different in their sources of examination anxiety based on gender but similar based on mode of entry.
