Item Adjustment Strategies to Job Loss among Internally Displaced Persons in Abuja, Nigeria(Malaysian Association of Counselling (IPERKAMA), 2018-07) Adebayo, David O; Tajudin, Mohd N; Adebiyi, Damilola RInternal displacement is a growing menace in countries, particularly, sub-Sahara Africa. Affected persons are made to flee their shelters due to occurrences like armed conflicts, natural disasters or war. This study examined adjustment strategies to job losses among internally displaced persons in Abuja, Nigeria. A total of four hundred IDPs in Yimitu village, Waru District participated in the study. A self-designed questionnaire entitled “Adjustment Strategies of Internally Displaced Persons Questionnaire” was used for data collection. Four research questions and four null hypotheses were raised and tested respectively at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive statistics, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were employed for data analysis. Findings revealed that common adjustment strategies adopted by internally displaced persons included trading, accessing low interest loans either from banks or NGOs, group/collective ownership of business activities, acquisition of skills, as well as furthering of one’s education. There was significant difference in adjustment strategies between male and female IDPs. Recommendations include involving rehabilitation and career counsellors in the various programmes designed for assisting IDPs.Item Marital communication:(Institute Journal of Studies in Education, Institute of Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, 2016-11) Esere, Mary O; Adebiyi, Damilola R; Adebayo, David OA correlational survey design was used to determine the mediating and moderating role of emotional intelligence on marital communication of married adults in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Its major aim lies in knowing whether there is any significant relationship between emotional intelligence and marital communication. Three hundred and eighty three (383) married adults from three Local Government Areas participated in the study. The results showed 66.8% of the respondents had moderate level of emotional intelligence, while 64.0% had moderate level of marital communications. It was also revealed that emotional intelligence had high, positive and significant relationship with marital communication, while the moderating variable of gender and age were significantly related with emotional intelligence and marital communication. Furthermore, findings from this study revealed a significant difference in the emotional intelligence and marital communication of male and female married adults. It was recommended that there is the need for improved awareness to be created by the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) on the relationship that exists between emotional intelligence and marital communication so that counsellors can train couples in developing good communication and high emotional intelligence.
