Item Allocation Pattern in the Financing of College of Legal and Islamic Studies in Nigeria(East African School of Higher Education and Development, College of Education & External Studies, Makarere Univeristy, Kampala, Uganda, 2017-04-15) Abdulrahman, Omosidi Sayuti; Adedapo, Adetiba Atolagbe; Abubakar, Abdulmumin LawalThis study investigated the allocation pattern in the financing of colleges of Legal and Islamic Studies in Nigeria with special regard to the adequacy of the funding. The sample consisted of eight out of the twelve colleges of Legal and Islamic Studies in the country. A research instrument titled “Financial Allocation Questionnaire” was used to collect data. The findings showed that there is general under-funding of these colleges within the period considered. Even in the face of inflation and staff and students expansion, there was little or no increase in the colleges’ annual capital grants and monthly subventions. This study examined a comparative study of academic performance of students admitted through the UTME and those admitted via DE into the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The design of the study was an ex post facto research design. The population of the study was the entire students in the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin for 2014/2015 academic session. Purposive and proportionate sampling techniques were used to select 500 respondents used for the study. Students’ Academic Performance Proforma was used to gather students’ grades. Two research questions raised were answered using mean and standard deviation while the hypothesis formulated was tested using the t-test statistical method. The findings of the study showed that there was significant difference in the academic performance of students who were admitted into the University through UTME and DE students. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the academic performance of students admitted through UTME and DE into the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin differs as there was an edge in the academic performance of the students admitted through Direct Entry. It was recommended that the National Universities Commission should mandate the Universities in the country to admit into the Faculty of Education only student who have completed their National Certificate in EducationItem Lecturers’ job commitment and quality goal achievement in state colleges of education in North Central Geo-political zone, Nigeria(Department of Educational Research and Evaluation, University of the Pujab,, 2020-06-20) Abubakar, Abdulmumin LawalThis study examined lecturers’ job commitment and quality goal achievement in State Colleges of Education in North Central Geopolitical Zone, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design of correlation type. Random sampling technique was used to select three states (Kogi, Kwara & Niger) out the six in the geopolitical zone, while all six State Colleges of Education in the sampled States were purposively selected. Proportional sampling technique was used to select 289 lecturers out of the 1,144 in the selected Colleges of Education; 299 principals and 363 head teachers of public basic schools out of the 1,331 and 6589 respectively in the selected States. “Lecturers’ Job Commitment Questionnaire” (LJCQ) and “Goal Achievement Questionnaire” (GAQ) were used to collect data. Pearson product-moment correlation statistics was used to test the hypotheses. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between lecturers’ job commitment and goal achievement in the State Colleges of Education in North Central Geopolitical Zone, Nigeria (r=.519, p < .05). The study observed the increasing number of applicants and relates this to the not too impressive patronage of these admission seekers to private universities. The study adopted a survey research method and used a research questionnaire titled “Marketing Mix Services and Students Enrollment”. The data collected were analysed using means, t-test and Pearson product-moment correlation statistics. The findings revealed that marketing mix can increase student enrollment and that the application of marketing mix is still low for private universities in the state. It was therefore concluded that marketing mix adoption would significantly boost students’ enrollment for these universities. Hence, the study recommended that the universities identify the marketing mix that suits their situation. A structured questionnaire was developed and issued to collect information from the study samples. The questionnaire was administered to one thousand, five hundred (1.500) respondents. Data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation, factor analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis. The results of the study revealed that instructional supervision, staff development practices, continuous assessment and learning environment had a significant positive relationship with goal achievement in UBE public secondary schools. From the results, it was recommended among others that ministry of education should organise workshops and seminars on quality assurance mechanisms, so that principals and teachers could gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the identified quality assurance mechanisms.
