Item ANALYSIS OF TEACHERS AWARENESS AND UTILIZATION OF SCHOOL CURRICULUM FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE OF CHEMISTRY STUDENTS IN EKITI STATE, NIGERIA(Academic Journal of Research and Development, (AJORAD) NERD Abuja., 2019) A.M. OmosewoThe study was conducted to examine the awareness and utilization of school curriculum to determine its hindrances to students’ performance in Senior School Chemistry in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study was a descriptive research of the survey type. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 320 chemistry teachers are from public and private senior secondary schools in the 16 local government Areas of Ekiti State. Two instruments were utilized for the study: (1) Questionnaire, and (2) Curriculum Observation Protocol (COP), which was duly validated and the reliability indexes were found to be 0.78 and 0.81, respectively. The research questions were answered using the frequency counts, mean and percentage, while the research hypotheses were subjected to Chi-square analysis at 0.5 level of significance. The findings from the study revealed that chemistry teachers were fully aware of the chemistry curriculum; chemistry Teachers not reasonably committed to the implementation strategies provision of the chemistry curriculum; there was significance difference in the utilization of chemistry curriculum based on teaching methodology employed by teachers; teacher factors (qualification, experience and training) has significant effect on teachers utilization of Chemistry curriculum; sex does not significantly affect teachers utilization of chemistry curriculum. It was therefore recommended among others that awareness of the existence of chemistry curriculum be created by chemistry education stakeholders; teachers must be exposed to instructional techniques that will facilitate their effective use of chemistry curriculum.Item Biology practical infl uence on students’ academic performance in Ilorin East LGA, Kwara State: a statistical analysis(University of Kabale Uganda, 2023) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Abidoye, Adekunle OmotayoThe study looked at the statistical analysis of how biology lab work affected senior secondary students' academic performance in Ilorin East, Kwara State, Nigeria. The research was a form of descriptive survey in Ilorin East L.G.A., Kwara State. 120 pupils were sampled for the study utilizing a proportionate and easy random selection procedure. To gather data from respondents, a questionnaire that had been carefully constructed was used. Utilizing percentage, mean, frequency count, independent t test, ANOVA at 0.05alpha level of significant. Three research questions and two research hypotheses that had been formulated. The study's findings showed that biology practical has a significant impact on senior secondary school students' academic performance as well as their level of comprehension and retention abilities. However, there was no significant impact of biology practical on students' academic performance based on gender but it was significant based on class size. Data is gathered using the Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS), which is based on Keller's ARCS motivation paradigm. Descriptive and inferential statistics (mean and standard deviation), and t-test were used to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study unveiled that the implementation of virtual reality-based instruction has a significant impact on the motivation of biology students in secondary schools. Moreso, the attention and satisfaction categories had the greatest favorable replies, indicating that VR has a considerable impact on students' motivation, according to the results. There are gender disparities in attention, with females showing higher levels. SolomonAtitude is a point of view about a situation; it is a way of thinking .ll is an inward feeling expressed by outward behaviour: It has implications for the learner, the teacher and the social group with which the individual learner relates. Attitudes are formed as a result of certain kinds oflearning experiences or even be learned simply by following the example or opinion of aparent,teacher or friend. The objective of this study was to assess science teachers' attitude towards science teaching in senior secondary schools in Ekiti State. Specifically, the study compared the attitude of science teachers towards science leaching on the basis of their: areas of subject specialization and school type. It was a descriptive research of the survey type in which simple random sampling technique was used to select 80 science teachers from both public and private secondary schools in Ekiti State. A questionnaire instrument adapted from Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession (ASTTP) was used for the data collection. Data description and inferential statistics (t-test and ANOVA) were used to answer the research questions and also test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that science teachers generally had positive attitude towards science teaching(i-15.31 atp<0.05) There was no significant diference in the attitude of the science teachers towards science teaching on the basis of on their areas of subject specialization. There was how ever asignificant dijfference in the attiude of science teachers towards science teaching based on school type(1=-0.99atp>0.05).tis recommended that adequate instructional materials should be made available to science teachers to further enhance their positive attitude towards teaching. These teachers should be trained and retrained in their areas of subject specialization for an improvement in their attitude.Item Effect of Qualification and Experience of Biology Teachers on the Status of EcologyTeaching in Kwara State(Ilorin Journal of Education. Published by Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, 2017) Abidoye, Florence OmosholapeThis study examined the effect of qualification and experience of Biology teachers on the status of ecology teaching in Kwara State.The study sample included one hundred and forty-two (142) Secondary Schools selected by random sampling technique. The researcher designed teachers' questionnaire which was administered to four hundred in the fifty (450) teachers selected from 142 senior secondary schools in eight (8) Local Government Areas of Kwara State. Researcher-designed validated questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents on the status of ecology teaching. Three research questions were raised and two hypotheses formulated. Frequency counts and chi-square statistical tools were used to analysis the data collected. The findings of this study revealed that 68% of Biology teachers agreed with the status of the contents while 32% disagreed. However, both qualified and unqualified teachers viewed ecology teaching the same way that is ecology teaching was not properly done due to the fact that some Biology teachers skip certain areas of the syllabus that they find difficult to teach. Similarly, experienced and less experienced teachers had the same views about status of ecology teaching in Kwara State.Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: biology teachers be encourage to be making used of natural resources to teach ecology and practicals should be carried out satisfactorily in the schools.; teachers should be sponsored to seminars and workshops specifically on Ecology teaching.Item Effect of Video-Assisted Instructional Package on Secondary School Students’ Achievement in Photosynthesis in Omu-Aran, Nigeria(University of Cape Coast, 2024) Olarewaju, Ibukun. OPhotosynthesis has been identified as a difficult biology topic for students due to their inability to visualize the stages and experimental procedures associated with it. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of video-assisted instruction on senior secondary school students' achievement in photosynthesis in Omu-Aran, Nigeria. The study investigated whether or not there will be gains in students’ achievement in photosynthesis when taught using video-assisted instruction, and the interaction effect of gender and cognitive style on the achievement. The study was a quasi-experimental research. The sample for the study was 109 and consisted male and female students from two co-educational schools. Two tests (pre- and post-) designed by the researchers were validated by three lecturers in science education. The instruments were found to have a high reliability as the reliability index obtained was 0.72. Data were analyzed using t-test and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that video-assisted instructional package improved students’ academic achievement in photosynthesis. Also, gender and cognitive style were observed to have no effect on students’ achievement when taught photosynthesis using the package and there were no interaction effects among the cognitive style and gender categories on achievement in photosynthesis. The study concluded that the use of video assisted instructional package was effective in improving the achievement of students in photosynthesis irrespective of gender and their cognitive style. Based on the findings of the study, Biology teachers should be encouraged to use video-assisted instructional package for teaching photosynthesis in senior secondary schools to improve learning outcomes.Item Effectiveness of ICT on Teachers’ Science teaching to Secondary Schools in Irepodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria(Huria Journal of Open University of Tanzania, Dares Salaam, Tanzania, 2019) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Ahmed M. Adebisi; Olorundare, A. SolomonThis study examined the effectiveness of ICT on teachers™ science teaching to secondary schools in Irepodun Local Government Area, Kwara State. A questionnaire was used to elicit information from respondents. Frequency counts and t-test statistics were used to analyse the data. Findings of this study reveal that the effect of ICT to science teaching by science teachers was significant. It also revealed that there were no significant differences on the effect of using ICT to science teaching by science teachers towards teaching based on the gender and experience but significant on the school type. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made; that; ICT Education should be compulsory in all secondary schools in Irepodun LGA Kwara State in order to improve more in their science teaching, the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria should provide ICT for both the male and female teachers, there should be opportunity to be ICT literate through in-service education for both the experience and less experience science teachers, Government should ensure provision of ICT facilities in the public secondary schools  and encourage science teachers to go to seminars and workshops so that they can improve in their science teaching. Key Word: Effectiveness, ICT, teachers, science teaching, secondary schoolsItem Effects of Location and Qualification of Biology Teachers on the State of Teaching of Ecology(Journal of Education Foundation (NIJEF), Department of Educational Foundation, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, 2008) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Abimbola I. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: Biology teachers in Schools that are located in rural areas should be motivated so as not to lend their efforts in the carrying out of Ecological activities. Science teachers would be allowed to go for government sponsored training programmes and workshops for an update of their subject knowledge and teaching skills.Item Impact of biology teachers characteristics on continuous assessment among senior secondary school teachers in Kwara State(Northwestern Mindanao State, College of Science and Technology, 2023) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Aladesuyi, David AdeyemiThis study examines the influence of teacher characteristics on continuous assessment practices in biology education in Kwara State, Nigeria. The goal of education is to facilitate comprehensive development, and assessment is a fundamental tool for evaluating the achievement of educational objectives. The research investigates how teachers' gender, academic qualifications, and years of teaching experience impact their approaches to continuous assessment in biology. The findings indicate that teacher characteristics play a significant role in shaping continuous assessment practices. Female teachers tend to administer assessments more frequently and provide valuable feedback to students. Educators with higher academic qualifications demonstrate a better understanding of assessment theory and align assessments with curriculum objectives. Furthermore, experienced teachers excel in designing and implementing assessments but may benefit from ongoing support to prevent rigidity in their assessment methods. To enhance continuous assessment practices, it is recommended that tailored professional development programs be established for biology teachers. Additionally, mentorship programs can assist less-experienced teachers in improving their assessment strategies. Thus, this research aimed 1) to analyze the effect of science laboratory utilization by the teachers and their experience on the students' learning outcomes, 2) to analyze the effect of science laboratory utilization by male and female teachers on the students learning outcomes, and 3) to analyze the effect of science laboratory utilization by experienced teachers to the students' learning outcomes. It is ex post facto research with multiple linear regression analysis due to its two independent variables. This research took both public and private upper primary school teachers in Kwara State, Nigeria, as the population. Forty-seven Public and Private Upper Basic Schools in all parts of the state are taken as samples randomly in this research. There were 100 basic science teachers taken as respondents. This research reported that 1) teachers’ utilization of science laboratory based on gender and experience in teaching science simultaneously influencedtudents' learning outcomes with value Sig. 0,00 < 0,05, 2) the utilization of the science laboratory by the male and female teachers did not significantly influence the students' learning outcomes, with value Sig. It was a descriptive research of the survey type in which simple random sampling technique was used to select 102 senior secondary schools in South-West zone, Nigeria. Two hundred and four (204) Biology teachers was involved in the study. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages and t-test. These were used to answer the research questions and also test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that Biology teachers generally had positive influence on academic performance of students while there was no significant difference based on gender and years of teaching experience. It is recommended that the adequate instructional materials should be made available for Biology teachers to further enhance their positive influence on the students’ academic performance. Both male and female science teachers should be encouraged by provision of special incentive for improvement on their influence on students’ academic performance. It examined influence of gender and years of teaching experience of senior secondary school biology teachers on their ecology teaching in Kwara State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 142 schools in Kwara State, Nigeria. A total of 450 Biology teachers were sampled for the study. Three null hypotheses were generated and tested at 0.05 alpha level. Data analyses were carried out using t-test statistics. The study found that the Biology teachers in kwara state, were effective based on the students’ performance. The results equally indicated that effectiveness of Biology teachers’ was not significantly influenced by gender and years of teaching experience. Based on the findings, conclusion was drawn and it was recommended that authorities establishing senior secondary schools such as the Teaching Service Commission and State Ministry of Education as well as individuals should treat both the male and female biology teachers the same way when handling the issue of appointment and posting of biology teachers. This study investigated the influence of premarital sexual behavior and dating on the academic performance of biology students in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State. The research employed a survey design, sampling 320 biology students from eight randomly selected public secondary schools in the region. A self-designed questionnaire was used for data collection, the data obtained was analysed using percentage and mean. The findings indicated a significant difference premarital sexual activities among students in Ilorin West, Kwara State, Nigeria, It also has influence on students’ academic performance negatively. Similarly, dating behaviors have effect on time management skills, leading to shifts in academic priorities and potential distractions. The study concludes with recommendations aimed at addressing these challenges, emphasizing the implementation of school policies and workshop or seminar to promote positive relationship skills and healthier dating experiences and reduce potential stressors.Item INFLUENCE OF SCIENCE TEACHERS’ ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE TEACHING SCIENCE SUBJECTS IN OYO STATE, NIGERIA(AL-HIKMAH JOURNAL OF EDUCATION, Al-Hikmah University, Kwara State, 2020) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Olorundare Adekunle Solomon; Ogunlowo Simeon OluwoleAttitude can be viewed as a response that could be positive or negative to any situation, event or object. An individual’s attitude is based on three components: cognitive, affective, and behavioural; hence, the role of the attitude of science teachers’ in attracting students, and sustaining the interest in the science subjects at the senior secondary school is of utmost important. The objective of this study was to assess science teachers’ attitude towards science teaching in senior secondary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. It was a descriptive research of the survey type in which simple random sampling technique was used to select 180 science teachers. A questionnaire instrument adapted from Patchaivaziamman and Krishnamurthy (2010) was used for the data collection. A reliability index of 0.89 was obtained by the test-retest method using Pearson Product Correlation Coefficient. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, t-test. These were used to answer the research questions and also test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that science teachers generally had positive attitude towards science teaching (t= 13.00 at p < 0.05). Based on the findings of this study it is hereby recommended that; the science teachers should regularly develop positive attitude towards the teaching of science subject since they are the role model. They should be well catered for by paying their salaries and allowance on time. They should be encouraged to motivate others in science teaching. Others science teachers should seek for knowledge in other areas to update their own area for the better performance of the students. Both male and female science teachers should be given equal exposure and opportunities for science teaching.
