| dc.description.abstract | I propose to study the Islamic Society of Papua New Guinea (ISPNG) and its role in Dawah activities since 1977. The year 1977, marks the beginning of the spread and growth of Islam in the country. This study would focus on some important issues faced by the Muslim community in Papua New Guinea during recent times. This includes issues related to minority affairs1; where Muslims are outnumbered by Christians; the role of media houses both local and international, which project a negative image of Muslims; the issue of proselytization and interaction between Muslims and Christians missionaries; the issue of understanding and practising Islam under such conditions; and the policy of the government towards the issues of Muslims. It is hoped that this study would help to develop a theoretical framework which can be used at other countries, where Muslims remain a minority and enabling comparisons to be made for knowledge and improving the status quo | |
