Key stakeholders in the political space have always yearned for credible elections in Nigeria. Against this backdrop, many have suggested the adoption of e-voting as a panacea to curbing electoral fraud that has since achieved a quotidian status in Nigeria. This paper presents an assessment of the University of Ilorin students’ unions election of 2014 where the e-voting system (SUEVS), designed and implemented by Computer Services and Information Technology Centre, University of Ilorin (COMSIT), was deployed. Findings indicated that students’ union’s e-voting system; a web based driven system connected to the school’s portal, provided different accessibility levels for voters and aspirants. It also allowed for rapid processing of election results, reduced the risk of human and mechanical errors and eliminated multiple registrations among others. However, despite these credible advantages, the e- voting system presented some pitfalls mostly in the areas of security and voter education. This paper concludes by emphasizing the necessity of e- voting as panacea to electoral fraud in Nigeria. With the University of Ilorin student union’s election e-voting model, Nigeria can adopt the e-voting system for its future elections if the recommendations identified in this paper are addressed.en_US
